  1. Also because they got sick of paying Price…
  2. Yes, it was clearly all Bloom. Henry and Betts were both begging him to get a deal done - each side rapidly conceding to the demands of the other. But Bloom chose to rise above theee negotiations, as the rife surrendering just muddled the picture, and rid himself of Betts altogether. You finally figured it out…
  3. So… fungible left-handed relievers and injury-prone starters are at risk…
  4. But you provided two examples of him doing it. And how one year deal players did he let walk that he shouldn’t have?
  5. And then we traded Tony Armas for Pedro!!! (How many posts before corrections?)
  6. All along I’ve believed the “$300mill/10 year” offer. More I’m wondering what exactly Dombrowski did to keep him. Makes the whole David Price scenario even worse in my mind…
  7. With only one year left, Verdugo might not bring back much in trade…
  8. I’m taking the under on 270 RBI for Abreu…
  9. Assuming you consider that a call at all…
  10. Reyes might not have 4 years left on him, especially as a starter. He’s the New Pedro Ciriaco…
  11. And until Rafaela’s begins…
  12. Duran’s control also makes him a more attractive trade piece for other teams. If Abreu can stick, the Sox do have a good problem. Of course they might keep everyone just like they kept Duran, Verdugo and Duvall this year. It’s actually not hard to envision a Duran-Abreu-Verdugo OF with Yoshida at DH and Rafaela at WOO waiting for an injury (or Abreu struggle).
  13. Abreu was just making a statement “So do you still think I’m only worth two months of Christian Valdez??!”
  14. I’m positive I’ve see it. Not mid-inning, however. But if you like position player pitching trivia Former Marlin Jon Mabry pitched one game in 2005 and was so bad he was relieved by RHP Vic Darensbourg. So he got relieved by a pitcher. Back in 2000, former Rockie catcher Brett Mayne came into the game as a pitcher - and earned a win!!!
  15. I think think those numbers in central and northern Maine are dwindling more to ennui…
  16. Probably true, but may also be more related to structured parental practices than child interests…
  17. Interestingly, the expense of Little League is self-imposed. Many travel leagues require kids to also join a “house league” for the exact reason you cite. However, that creates an insane over commitment for the kids (and parents!!) and the travel players usually have poor attendance for their Little League teams, which is an ENORMOUS factor in their reduction and a big cause of many teams folding. No one wants to pay for Little League only to lose half your games due to forfeit. Even if the travel leagues abandoned that rule (as some have), the depletion of Little League teams at the expense of travel ball strongly indicates there are more kids serious about baseball and fewer in pursuit of a casual summertime activity. Probably worth noting - Little League itself isn’t really the same casual baseball we had as kids. It’s also a big, big deal now. And gone so far as to have the LLWS televised nationally with multiple countries participating. Unlike MLB, when Little League has a World Series, they actually invite the whole world…
  18. Not a real person…
  19. Eh. I’d still struggle to talk coherently…
  20. Wright? So our catchers are now named Wright and Wong?
  21. It would be impressive to even talk coherently after that…
  22. What are you basing that on? It seems to me that the larger amount of leagues that exist now than did 40 years ago paints the opposite picture. https://thehittingvault.com/travel-baseball/#:~:text=There%20are%20tens%20of%20thousands,areas%20like%20Texas%20and%20California.
  23. And he left disappointed. That’s especially bad given the guys over the years those scouts did sign…
  24. Nats delayed him…
  25. Debuted at 19 years 207 days, according to B-R. Alex Rodriguez is currently the last 18yo to play in MLB…
