  1. So you think a Yoshida trade won’t involve eating money?
  2. Trading shouldn’t be about unloading a player. Will you get back a better player/pitcher for Yoshida or Duran? Especially since many are focusing on Duran’s most important skill - the ability to be rostered at the MLB minimum for another season.
  3. I assume you’ve never had molasses in January in Florida…
  4. 20HRs and only a .331OBP?!
  5. Pedro Guerrero, June, 1985 and July, 1985 Guerrero hit 15HRs in June, 1985 with a 1.297 OPS. He followed it up with a 1.386OPS in July, despite only hometing 4 times that month…
  6. Shane Spencer, Sept 1998 42PA 8HR 21RBI 1.583OPS This was also notable as it was Spencer’s first full month in MLB…
  7. Bob Bailey July 1970 72 PA 10 HR 28RBI 1.593OPS
  8. Juan Soto only has a .713 OPS this month. Has his luster worn off too?
  9. Absolutely. That and a bunch of metrics. Of course, they pay rarely (re: almost never) do the eye test by watching games on television…
  10. When I suggested tha Sox call up Rafaela to play SS until Stiry got back, you assured me it would NEVER happen because he was the future CF. It took a few months. But you were wrong. Now comes the part where you don’t admit it…
  11. 1. So did you see Rafaela was called up and started at shortstop? Maybe you missed that; I’m not sure if there were highlights. 2. I seem to recall someone poopooing a Joey Gallo suggestion last year to help fill a massive defensive void, and doing so for batting average reasons. So what again was the Sox biggest problem this year? 3. This is more about what the Sox should do within their limitations. Not predictions.
  12. Is Nola really a top tier pitcher? His ERA+ over the last 3 years is 103, basically league average. He’s also 30 years old, and therefore not likely to get better. To me, depends on the deal. 5 years or more at anything over $20mill - hard, hard, hard pass. But I wouldn’t mind Nola on a shorter deal. The shorter the better…
  13. Trade Duran. To Miami for Braxton Garrett is still relatively close. Sign Matt Chapman. Sign a TBD RP. C - Wong, McGuire 1b - Devers. Unless you agree with the moronic logic that his contract should keep him at 3b 2b - Urias. Upgrade is possible. He’s a meh defender SS - Story. Probably the Sox best defensive SS since Alex Gonzalez 3b - Chapman. Would easily be the Sox best defensive 3b in the last half century LF - Yoshida CF - Rafaela RF - Verdugo DH - Casas SP - Sale, Garrett, Bello, Crawford, Houck RP - Jansen, Martin, Winckowski, Whitlock, Schreiber, Bernardino, Pivetta (also Sale’s injury replacement)
  14. Actually most scouts don’t use stats for a variety of reasons…
  15. Will he ever be done with them? Will any CBO/GM ever be done with them?
  16. So… you’re saying we still have Mookie? I did see him at Fenway last week…
  17. Or… Bloom inherited a $240miill team that was barely above .500…
  18. Also, Bloom was hired 5 days before the end of the series, but he didn’t actually start (aka “take over”) that day. I mean, who starts a job the same day they accept the offer?
  19. If Duvall and Turner leave (likely!), our primary RHH power bar is Story, followed by Urias…
  20. I’d deal Duran for pitching. Free agent starting pitching is a poor investment…
  21. Can you at least explain how a wager of dollars to donuts works? Would I be supplying dollars? Or donuts? How many? Do I get both if I win? Or some equivalent conversion? Any kind of donuts? And do I really want more than one anyway?
  22. Yes on the first part, no on the timeline of the second…
  23. I don’t like that they refused to invest in a Gold Glove winning Slugger and instead chose to invest in a defensively challenged one. Move Devers to 1b, Casas to DH. Sign Chapman, who fills two roles as a GoldGlove winning defensive upgrade and a middle-of-the-order right-handed bat…
  24. I have my doubts they deal Mayer and keep Rafaela at SS. They are weak at middle infield and have a glut of outfielders. I don’t think there is much beyond that for starting Rafaela at SS. Even if they made Rafaela the staring SS next year, it’s not like Mayer has some “Use By” date in the next 12 months. He could start next year in AAA (and probably will anyway). They’ll probably deal away an OF (Duran or Verdugo) this off-season, creating a place for Rafaela. After him, the best defensive CF on the roster might be Abreu…
  25. Story hasn’t been a good signing, but Sale has been far worse. Story could play injury-free for the next 4 years. Sale is 4 years into his deal and hasn’t even reached 200IP total yet…
