  1. Llovera to me looks like a byproduct of having a GM who made a successful scrap heap pickup. Bloom hit a home run with Schreiber, and suddenly all his wretched refuse picks gain more credibility. Even DD appeared to do this. Brasier was an immediate success, so suddenly when Kimbrel departs, our big bullpen acquisition is Colten Brewer!! Llovera is showing why SF DFAd him. Let’s learn from that instead…
  2. When you’re 9, a 40mph fastball is pretty hard. Especially since the mound is only 40 feet away…
  3. Actually Chipper was 40% robot…
  4. Since you’re in the DR, I assume you get more info on this. I’ve heard the primary allegation was before Franco had a wife and kids. If so, not sure this is a big deal. I mean, his first son, Wander Franco Jr., was reportedly born in 2018, meaning Franco was 17 at the time (and the mother, his current wife, was 16). If that timeline is true, is it wrong for a 17yo Franco to be involved with a (then?) 14 year old? Details about this incident -specifically the “when” - are not readily available online, probably for good reason.
  5. There is no such thing as a Jets’ fan. I assume that’s a typo and you meant either “Mets” or “Nets”.
  6. He is having a slump for whatever reason. Since June, his K/BB is 24/3. He masked it by hitting very well in July. He hasn’t hit much in the past three weeks, but it’s also only three weeks…
  7. “Yankees will not be deterred by this.” - Carlos Rodon’s agent
  8. “Nothing ruins a pitcher’s career more than pitching.” Seen stitched into a throw pillow on the couch in the waiting room of Dr. James Andrews…
  9. They’re also converting him to Scientology. Not sure why…
  10. It’s a Sox board; you could always feign adoration for Jim Rice. But we forgive you mixing up the MVP years of your childhood idol; you were just an infant at the time
  11. No one was talking about adult-oriented sports. AAU, your example, is aimed at high school and younger and has to be, since it’s a Nike recruitment drive that cannot negotiate with college kids . (I think they actually can now.) Adult-oriented stuff is another matter. Outside of the expense and the absolutely insane schedules, travel ball is a good thing. But the problem is too many parents think of it as an investment against riding college costs…
  12. Why big turnarounds? Neither of these guys has 500 plate appearances yet…
  13. I call those plays “Kenny Loftons.” For obvious reasons
  14. I suppose Mauricio Llovera is ready to take over the closer role…
  15. Of course. And undoubtedly an even bigger Willie Stargell fan beat you to the moniker “mvp79”, which would have made actual sense
  16. But one certainly could interpret it that way, and the 1975 World Series was 48 years ago, so even middle age people were born since then…
  17. Televised games are useless for Eye Test on defense. Except for the catcher and pitcher, since 95% of the time they’re the only defensive players on the screen…
  18. Always a good move to chastise someone for not watching the 1975 World Series when his forum moniker does suggest he was born in 1978…
  19. You sure? I mean he said travel ball had no impact, but you brought up the proliferation of AAU (travel basketball, albeit for Nike signees) which is really an example of the expansion of organized youth sports.
  20. That stuff was only in the press conference highlights
  21. Are they or are they not competing with the AL East teams? They’re 4 games behind Toronto with 36 to play. Not exactly insurmountable. And they can’t stop Baltimore, Tampa and Toronto from making moves. They didn’t build an Oakland roster…
  22. So… the crybaby stuff (while I get was an inside joke on moonslav) took this into account? No one has proclaimed Bloom a success. Even his staunchest supporters have piled numerous gripes, not enough of which contain the words “Mauricio Llovera”, a man who is making many of us miss Kaleb Ort. But the reality of tjs situation is both teams have performed the same, and one is getting rewarded while the other condemned. Look at it this way. The Sox have played horrible defense. Their baserunning numerous times has been beyond questionable. They play in a division where it took a long losing streak to put only one team under .500. Yet somehow, they’re still as good as Philly. How bad is that Philly team that they aren’t doing much, much better than a team that can’t field, can’t run the bases, and went far too long with half a rotation?
  23. Is not taking them into account realistic? I mean, if we look at W-L records, is Philly that much better than Boston that it explains the 80% difference in postseason likelihood? The reality of the situation is since Dombrowski took over Philadelphia, the two teams have nearly identical W-L records. But one you call a success and the other a failure. And then you refute the clear and obvious reason why. Or are you just simply that much more dazzled that Philly has one more win over 2+ years?
