  1. I’m kind of hoping the Sox deal Duran for a SP. I’d move Duran (and his .381 BABIP) for Edward Cabrera, but Miami’s too need is a shortstop. While it didn’t work out of BTV, a deal where: Miami gets Ha-Seong Kim to fill their void at SS San Diego gets Jarren Duran, who gives them a much-needed left-handed outfield bat that fits the cost—cutting budget Boston gets Edward Cabrera to fill a big void in their rotation…
  2. This team is actually probably already better than last season. But by how much is the question, as it is partially not as significant as they need…
  3. Curly DRILLED that hole!!!
  4. Dombrowski’s parting gifts weren’t much better. $145mill for Sale?h Another way to look at it is, while increasing spending, Dombrowski’s Phillies went 259-227 over the last 3 seasons. While maintaining payroll, Bloom’s Red Sox went 248-238 over the last 3 seasons. In completely different situations, only 11 more wins over 3 years. That’s not a lot. In fact, after two years, Bloom’s team actually had a better record. Maybe if Bloom figured out what to do at a trade deadline, things would have been all but equal…
  5. I subscribe to the theory that Dombrowski wouldn’t have posted nearly as well as you think on that budget…
  6. If DD was here instead of Breslow, we’d probably still have Sale. If Sale is healthy, the Sox are better. But if not, the Sox are most likely worse off than they are today. Would we have Giolito? I could see DD making that move. But if he didn’t, what would he have gotten that was better for the same money?
  7. Hey where did those goal posts go?
  8. And which one would you rather have been from 2003 through 2021? Or, if you prefer, 1989 through 2021?
  9. Also the least of the Sox problems. Would this team be better off if we had an experienced CBO with no budget?
  10. Well, that operates on the assumption that all inexperienced people are the same. I have no experience as a bus driver. My dog has no experience as a bus driver. Whose bus are you getting on? (The pigeon is not an option.)
  11. Moon, add that meteorite thingy to the list. Can we place requests for that someone?
  12. 1. I’d be annoyed that we signed the up-and-down Snell for SEVEN YEARS. 2. I’d be happy with the improved SP. 3. I’d be shocked and elated that the Sox were spending again. 4. I’d be in disbelief that the Sox outbid the Mets. So … mixed emotions?
  13. Another fact, only the Dodgers and Astros have longer postseason streaks. And the spend-happy Dodgers have only one WS title in their 11 year postseason run…
  14. Ok so how is the brand different from the pre-Henry century?
  15. Not sure where you live, but that goes back to MLB not marketing their stars, which is some sort of weird and stupid tradition in this sport. How come almost no MLB stars do national commercials? Or make appearances on TV shows? I can easily name a dozen football players and basketball players who have hosted Saturday Night Live, but not a single baseball player. I can name as many football and basketball players who went on to become successful actors. Again, not a single MLB player. Why, if this sport is as popular as it is, does it work so hard to keep itself out of mainstream? Even their pathetic broadcasting packages and archaic blackout rules tell us how badly MLB wants to keep its product and stars as some sort of National Secret…
  16. Disagree. I’m not going to soak for the 1919-1960 brand, for obvious reasons. But do you really think it’s changed all that much over the past 30 years? Or 40 years? Or are you solely focusing on the last 20 years and crediting Henry with destroying a brand without any credit for embellishing it?
  17. I never advised him to be one. At this point, I’m just hoping his Moneyball tactics pan out. The downside is never having big star talent. But the bright side is there are lots of exploitable strategies in baseball. The Sox might be willing to spend more if MLB marketed its stars more heavily, like other sports have always done. Then players like Betts become an asset (financially, he’s already a baseball asset) and not a great expenditure. There would be greater incentive to keep those players around…
  18. I have my doubts it goes that far. This brand has an 86 year title drought with being destroyed…
  19. Seriously? Why do I need to? Henry isn’t running those teams (despite the wishes of many). I mean, I basically said “businesses cut costs” and your reply was “but what about businesses that don’t?” Hey, maybe they make less money. Maybe they aren’t trying to maximize profits. Maybe those teams are not prioritizing budget over winning…
  20. Then why are people asking me about it? And why other trans are spending? It’s like they think I’m actually involved in these decisions…
  21. I think his goal is clearly financial. Winning is secondary. On the bright side, I don’t think it is completely off his SMART goals list…
  22. Then don’t buy tickets and cancel NESN. I’m just telling you what a Henry is clearly doing…
  23. And while we as fans do not like this, is it or is it not a sound and time-honored business practice?
  24. Every business in the world tries to be more successful for less money. Not sure why this notion is so foreign to some folks…
  25. Safer. I think 2019 - when the Sox had one of the highest payrolls in the game and missed the postseason entirely and by a lot - made him re-evaluate spending. As I said before, Henry tried to hire Beane. He did hire Bill James. There has always been a fascination with winning without spending…
