  1. Based on what?
  2. Marcus HDMH Stroman doesn’t get nearly enough mention, which is odd from a group of fans fascinated by Michael Wacha…
  3. It was a minor league deal designed to remove him from the 40 man roster and was probably in the works prior to his release. Essentially he was a DFAd and re-signed, which happens all the time…
  4. A lot of times they are necessary to get the players to sign in the first place ..
  5. JD? Why JD and Mookie? Why not Price and Mookie?
  6. Want the R&D? Kids start touring too fast too young, and many play in year round leagues now. So you have crop after crop of 18yo kids entering the draft with more wear and tear on their ligaments than ever before. Couple that with the destructive (and thankfully bygone) trend of parents subjecting their kids voluntarily to TJ surgery under the complete misapprehension that it would help them throw harder, and you have more damaged goods at a young age. But it’s all about the radar gun readings. A good radar gun reading can lead to a scholarship or a signing bonus. Does anything else matter, he asks, tongue-in-cheek…
  7. Yeah that sounds plausible…
  8. It’s fun watching you dial back…
  9. He will be pricey, but defensively he does make the most sense of the three for NY…
  10. And then you commented Breslow wasn’t doing so with anyone this year. You know, like every GM/CBO ever in MLB history except Epstein that one time. I get Breslow hasn’t made any significant moves yet. Know who else hasn’t? Everyone. The only notable transactions to date are one pitcher re-signing with his former team and the Mariners re-shuffling some mediocre third basemen…
  11. I have questions about Yamamoto as well, but I don’t write think he’s a straight up 100% gamble akin to betting on the ponies. I mean, NPB has produced numerous solid veterans and a few truly elite talents. The real question - how many starters does Breslow think the Sox need? If he’s counting Sale, Pivetta, Bello and Crawford, he might not be able to sign “a couple tried and true” MLB pitchers. He also might not have the luxury of writing off Sale just yet…
  12. What your point?
  13. His family? The guy has been in charge for 32 days and already the masses are growing restless…
  14. Honestly, Bellinger probably makes the most sense for the Yankees. Unlike Soto and Ohtani, Bellinger can at least play CF for the next few seasons. Ohtani makes the least sense of the three, as signing him pushes Stanton into the OF for the next 4 years on days when 1) he isn’t injured and 2) Ohtani isn’t pitching…
  15. You would have to click on each player. I’m not up for it either…
  16. Ok. Thank you for trading out for me. It looked long and tedious…
  17. I read the entirety of this post. Don’t see the big deal. It’s only like 10 words long…
  18. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/358010336_Major_League_Draft_WARs_An_Analysis_of_Wins_Above_Replacement_in_Player_Selection
  19. Junior Griffey?
  20. I’m ok with Wong starting. It wouldn’t be horrible to upgrade the starting catcher, but fix SP and 2b first…
  21. Why not? Do you disparage praising anyone who isn’t a Hall of Famer? To paraphrase Judge Smaels “the world needs jabronis, too”…
  22. I don’t think upgrading backup catcher is going to get the Sox closer to anything. And it’s a moot point with McGuire. He wasn’t non-tendered. He’s going to be back next year…
  23. That happens. Matt Bush, for example. Also Joe Nathan and Trevor Hoffman. Probably a lot more I just didn’t realize…
  24. Agreed. A while back it was postulated out here that the Trey Ball pick set the Sox franchise back years. (The entire 2013 draft turned out to be a waste of signing bonuses for the Sox.) We’ve seen the Astros flub back to back #1 picks (Appel/Aiken) and not get derailed. Not to mention forecasting the future of an 18yo through age 30+ all while hoping he doesn’t have too many surgeries is a little bit of a challenging prediction…
  25. Exactly. He’s the BUC. He seems to get a bit too much ire for a guy in that role…
