  1. So… pass on Soto because we have Duran and Abreu? That’s like passing on Snell because we have Walter and Bernardino…
  2. No one said O’Neil was a better player than Trout. Trout could have written his Cooperstown speech 2 years ago. His one and only drawback is an insane contract going forward vs how much he is likely to play. O’Neil is a much safer play with less upside. If the Sox want to pay that kind of money to an outfielder, just go all in and get Juan Soto. The deal will be bigger than 7/$260, but it will very likely prove to be a better long term move…
  3. I think the Angels do it if they can work something out with Ohtani. They cannot lose both superstars in the same offseason and expect to sell tickets. Of the two, Duran is probably the “upside play.” Trout’s (very likely) limited action will cap him as a 2-3 fWAR player going forward. If Trout had 4 years or less left on his deal, he’d be a better target. Seven full years during which his IL time is more likely to increase than decrease, will he even be worth 2fWAR at age 37? It seems like the Sox can find better ways to spend the 15-20% of their budget…
  4. Trout’s played in 237 games out of a possible 486 over the last 3 years. Chances are good you wouldn’t get to see him play. Or do people think this guy will get healthier as he ages?
  5. Good idea to blame the fans. Especially the ones who acknowledge the budget exists. Simple question - do you think Craig Breslow cares about his budget or not?
  6. I like the Mitch Garver angle. But if we want an OF, I like Tyler O’Neil, who can hit with pop and actually field his position. Adam Duvall is also certainly in the argument…
  7. So you’re trading a 2.4 fWAR guy in Duran for the ability to pay Trout $120mill for the same production? And including Crawford? Pass…
  8. Dog or bag?
  9. Kiner’s last year was his age 32 season. Trout is entering his age 32 season. Is this really the comp you want to make?
  10. At best that’s a tie breaker. Yamamoto didn’t hire an agent to hook him up with his friends…
  11. Or running a team in 2014…
  12. Trout is owed $260mill and is a part time player. Story and Yoshida are owed about $186mill combined. And for fewer years. And both might wind up playing…
  13. I don’t think any top prospect for a 32yo outfielder due $260mill over the next seven years and who hasn’t played over 120 games since his age 27 season is anywhere near realistic…
  14. Robinson has been a crazy fall from grace. Consensus top 100/BP # 15 to DFA in 2 years…
  15. Alex have him a Hall Pass to hire one coach. One. All other hirings will go through and subsequently be approved or rejected by Cora…
  16. I hope the Sox don’t add multiple Rule 5 players. It’s the worst way to add players if you don’t get an immediate contributor. Most Rule 5 selections that last on the roster get buried in the back of the bench and still lose a year of control while simultaneously losing a year of development. If the Sox do make selections plural, hopefully they can work out a trade or two to allow for minor league demotions…
  17. We missed out on Juan Soto!!
  18. And some were subsequently DFAd by those orgs. Teams sometimes claim a guy and then hope he passes through waivers so they can keep him without using a 40 man roster spot. They rarely trade for that type of borderline talent, however…
  19. In what timeframe? I’ll take the under on that since a few are certain to reach MiLB free agency and take that route to another organization…
  20. Yes, that was cute. Of course the previous allocations of those contributions might now have to be paid by public funds…
  21. Can’t add 2. They only left one place open. You can’t DFA players to make a Rule 5 pick; the roster space has to already exist…
  22. The list of trade candidates seems to consist of players to trade to get rid of them, not players to deal to get something good. Their trade values decrease by being on the 40 man roster, since the acquiring team will obviously have to add them as well.
  23. That Breslow only added 2 players with 3 open spots could also mean there is a player he aims to select in Rule 5…
  24. If they get added, then it makes for a tougher decision when the Sox do acquire a player. (Not really. Dalbec can still be DFAd.)
  25. Massarotti is either a moron or a liar. Quite possibly both. It’s nauseating that people listen to him for information. He’s always been terrible. And I’m not talking “serial killer terrible,” nor “zombie apocalypse terrible”. He’s “Armageddon By Flaming Excrement Avalanche” terrible. Does he even listen to his own stupidity? So Mayer sucked when he got to Double A, but the White Sox would still be willing to trade multiple years of their All Star 6 tool CF for him. (His sixth tool is charisma.)
