The 2018 team had lots of homegrown players that DD inherited. I have my doubts Mookie even wanted to be extended. But one thing lacking was homegrown pitching. A fun trivia question might be “who lead the 2018 Red Sox in IP among pitchers the basic drafted?” It looks like, with 99 IP, former Florida Gator Brian Johnson just might be that guy. (Matt Barnes, with 61, is second.)

And I routinely go to Cubs and White Sox games, largely due to geography. But family members are Cubs’ fans. If we go buy ticket prices, Cubs’ games are always pricey (and terribly inconvenient. You can’t park anywhere near Wrigley for less than $100.). White Sox games are comparatively dirt cheap and have many parking lots right at the stadium. However, it is worth noting that White Sox tickets do get more expensive when the team is winning. Losing team? Sunday game tickets in August/September cost $5-7 dollars a couple years ago. That’s not a typo. FIVE TO SEVEN DOLLARS. Not only less than a movie, but less than a movie popcorn! But only if they were losing…

That’s one against. Also I’m thrilled Big Papi knows who I am enough to call me out. Eovaldi has been in MLB for 13 years, had only once received Cy Young votes, and has played in the same number of All Star games as Scott Cooper. I assumed his up-and-down body of work interspersed with injuries kept him from “star” status. But there is no real definition. So would you consider Eovaldi a star player? And what is your definition of a star player, by which I mean someone you are paying to see? Mookie will fit everyone’s definition. Eovaldi? Maybe not…

It is my main point. Fans like star players, but they want a winner. Many fans determine buying a ticket based on the day’s SP. Not necessarily because said pitcher is a star, but because the best SP represents the best chance to win…

The stars might help a team win, but does anyone care about a team of stars that isn’t good? I doubt many Mets’ fans last year got excited about their sub-.500 star-filled team. And I seriously doubt many were buying tickets to watch Alonso, Lindor, Verlander and Scherzer lose…

Disagree there. While people like the stars, the team is priority for most. You didn’t send your fandom to LA when Betts was traded, did you? I have purchased numerous Red Sox merchandise over the years. All of it with team logo. None of it with player names. I’m not alone like that. Maybe you prefer watching stars; but I think plenty if not most prefer a good team…

Two obvious. Maybe three, depending on whether or not you think Yordan Alvarez is a Hall of Famer. (He has a legit shot.) One of them won a World Series this past year. Possible four if you count Zack Greinke. They also once non-tendered a 26yo former ROY and MVP. Non-tendered!! Granted, that got isn’t going to the Hall of Fame. But MVP at 23 and non-tendered at 26! I like him more than Soler, at least as an OF. Soler is a pretty dangerous hitter. But I would just assume pass on Soler and maybe spend on a pitcher, even if his name is Clevinger…

In case you are no longer aware, the Red Sox no longer want to have the highest payroll in the league. It worked from a baseball standpoint, but something about it from a business standpoint clearly has not been sitting well with Henry. That he gave us a few years of top tier payroll is nice and we all enjoyed it, but he clearly has always been about running a more efficient team that costs less. As Dombrowski prefers to operate in the upper stratosphere of payrolls, his MO doesn’t fit well with what the Sox want to do. It’s not about liking it. It’s just reality…

Similar to Soler, at least offensively. Basically a RHH corner OF/DH bat that they seem to have placed on the radar. I’m not confident on Cabrera as much as I see this team only affording reclamation projects, too prospects, or backend starters. Since top pitching prospects are next to impossible to acquire, that leaves reclaimation projects as best case scenario…

There’s things too like about Duran and things to question. 1. Like his ability to pressure defenses, especially outfield defenses 2. Don’t like his defense anywhere but LF (although he did markedly improve in CF last year). 3. Don’t like his .381 BABIP. So not sustainable…

Understandable. I like his offensive potential. Especially that all he needs to do is make an outfielder take 3 steps to either side - and it’s a double. But he just didn’t have a position, assuming the Sox ever get a RHH bat that was so high on the radar all those months ago.

If you truly believe in the importance of starting pitching, why would a Major League franchise deal one of its top two starting pitchers while trying to compete, which they are clearly doing if they acquire Kim? If you were GM, would you trade either of those pitchers and NOT get back one of Anthony, Mayer or Teel? So why do you think Miami would? Cabrera, with a much lesser track record, is clearly more available than the other two. And for good reason…
