  1. Sox fans had lower expectations then. In 1983-1985, the Sox went 245-241, never playing in the postseason (granted, per-wild card so only 2 AL teams got in). In 2021-2023, the Sox went 248-238 with an ALCS appearance, and the talk is All boycott. And yet there were some highlights in the 1983-85 years, per the post above. None of them involved winning anything, but highlights nonetheless. No one evrn wants to hear highlights about the recent years, despite them actually being better than many previous stretches…
  2. I’m not boycotting and I don’t think the off-season over yet. But I certainly see how Henry has fueled the frustration among fans…
  3. Yes, we know. You stopped watching when the team got good for a while…
  4. In this case, I think it means “relent and give in to.” You know, like what people on their deathbeds do eventually…
  5. It’s fine as long as they find a CBO who can do the job, of which the duties include the making it to the postseason, with no exceptions or excuses, and doing so with the following criteria: 1. No sacrificing the farm to build the parent club, as this is the pipeline to the future. 2. No sacrificing the parent club to build the farm, as the whole purpose of the farm is to support the parent club and not the other way around. 3. Trim payroll. And above all - no excuses! Any and all excuse makers will be throttled fully!
  6. I can accept 78-84 as meeting the definition of mediocre. The problem, apparently, is Werner thinks this team just isn’t mediocre enough to get concerned about…
  7. Should we all agree to drop the “full throttle” stuff now and maybe focus instead on how he allegedly doesn’t accept mediocrity?
  8. Soto enjoys hitting against everybody…
  9. Agreed. They need to have a minor league plan. That’s fine. They also need to realize many fans don’t care about that and it shouldn’t be the focal point of the message. A plan for the minors should be like your middle name; we all know you have one but we don’t need to know what it is. Unless it’s Leslie…
  10. Make the playoffs! Is this even a serious question? It’s one thing to not like the way ownership runs the team when they fail. But if they’re making the postseason (which is a successful season), then what exactly is your gripe? That they aren’t running the team the way you want it run?! Obviously we would prefer not having one postseason appearance in the move of 3 last place seasons, but that wasn’t the question…
  11. That’s fine for Yankee games, Mets games and Philly games. But when there are 16,000 in the stands for Thursday night against Pittsburgh, then what? Blame the Pirates fan as for not being willing enough to travel?
  12. Ok but then what? They can Breslow? That’ll fix it!!
  13. Sam has become Squealer from Animal Farm…
  14. Oh I never commented on the quality of the pipeline. Just that they’re going to use it more than sparingly. Spending seems like it’s not going to happen, regardless of post-season proximity…
  15. Judge played 106 games last year. He’s only topped 112 games twice since 2017. And he’s in his 30s now, when most players start to break down. Also, he’s going to play a more physically demanding position this year. He’ll have the occasional healthy season. Maybe in 5 years when Stanton is finally put to sleep and Aaron can DH. Until then, we’ll, enjoy Juan Soto this year…
  16. Haven’t you been paying attention? They’ll spend at any time, just not much. And the rest will come up though their pipeline…
  17. All the tome. (And I can’t go back and fix this one either.)
  18. “Damnit!! I’m ONE YEAR away from free agency!!!”
  19. I don’t think it’sa career breaker. I just think the Red Sox (and several other teams) don’t want to see their best young talent reach free agency at age 27…
  20. We’ll have lots of quality trade bait?
  21. Is he one of those that thinks Catch-22 is a really long Choose Your Own Adventure book about World War II?
  22. I think he’s a borderline case. He’s certainly not the most egregious omission even as outfielders go. But he also stacks up against a few inductees as well..
  23. Hard to say. His MLB track record is pretty weak and he’s basically just a radar gun darling with 5 years of control. Miami offered him for Justin Turner last July, but Bloom got all indecisive. BTV gives him a respectable trade value of 19.8, which is far below Mayer and Anthony, but roughly equal to Teel. I wouldn’t pull that trigger, but I’d move Duran for him. I have my doubts Miami wants Duran, however, as they reportedly in the hunt for a shortstop. Ha-Seong Kim matches up nicely and San Diego desperately needs outfielders and left-handed hitters. But I can’t see them trading Kim right now as they actually open the season playing the Dodgers in Seoul…
  24. Lopez went for a 2b with a batting title. Miami might not even have been looking for prospects and reportedly want MLB-level controllable hitters. Castillo went for a pretty steep package. The big miss was Zac Gallen, who went for a shortstop universally ranked in the 59-69 range. Of course, the Sox had no prospects ranked higher at that time as their best was Michael Chavis, who was in the 79-85 range on any system than ranked him at all…
