  1. Not likely. Why not spend out on defense and help out all the pitchers. Not to mention, spent on which pitcher? Have you seen the options out there?
  2. 1. If they sign him, Yoshida is. Not sure of the difference if the Sox have Duvall as an OF and Yoshida as z as DH as opposed to Yoshida as an OF and Soler as a DH. I mean besides the obvious difference in defense. 2. If Breslow implements his “no set DH” plan and Cora actually plays along, Soler is an outfielder.
  3. And yet they're still looking at outfielders. I'm not so sure 6 outfielders on the 40 man roster constitutes an overabundance, especially if you're starting 4...
  4. Thanks, Judge Smales...
  5. I would argue Duvall makes more sense, as he can be a starting RF. Cooper is a weak OF and probably best limited to backup 1b/DH duty. And it's not like they are going to platoon him with Casas. Maybe Yoshida, but Refsnyder can also do that...
  6. How excited was anyone when Turner signed with Boston last year? And do the Sox really need another DH? The Sox need gloves and arms, not bats...
  7. Well it's not like Duval, O'Neill or even Duran are bastions of durability on the cusp of challenging Cal Ripken. I think the Sox can find adequate time for all five...
  8. I have no issues with Rafaela, but if they bring in Taylor temporarily, they at least still have Rafaela if Taylor simply washes out. Or gets hurt. Is having this level of depth such a bad thing? It's not like Taylor - a Gold Glover himself - is a guy you need to tart if you bring him on board? I actually like Duvall over Taylor, but he is not without his issues either. But if they do bring in Duvall, it still could push Rafaela down to Worcester...
  9. So you’re saying he has mastered the strike zone? And we can ignore his 3.6:1 K:BB in the minors? And his 7:1 K:BB in the majors?
  10. Not til Friday at the earliest. The Sox can’t play the “well player A declined so we should avoid player B.” Especially not on 1-2 year deals. I’m sure that logic wouldn’t fly if the Sox decided “David Price didn’t work out so we need to avoid Blake Snell.” And in that case, it actually makes more sense. Also if Taylor goes into decline, you still have Rafaela. There’s no law that Taylor has to keep playing…
  11. Maybe he could learn the strike zone?
  12. One is an established major leaguer. The other - not somuch. Also Taylor can provide that missing RH bat. And it’s likely for just 1-2 years. Not like Rafaela would need to convert to pitching to get on the field…
  13. I can understand that attitude…
  14. But they have the reigning AL Cy Young winner and the newly formed Judge-Soto-Stanton baseball mashing machine!
  15. As it is a zero sum game, if the Sox get 5-10 games better, who gets 5-10 games worse?
  16. Garrett Cooper is a good hitter…
  17. Yes. Reyes is a traditional 2b-SS-3b utility infielder…
  18. When was the last time anyone from the front office discussed payroll accurately?
  19. 82 wins isn’t exciting to me, and still might be last place caliber. But it would be an improvement…
  20. The added/lost method really isn’ta good way to evaluate a team…
  21. Sad. Jimy was very underrated and underappreciated…
  22. Yeah but Keller has been taking on water since last May…
  23. Dude, I can’t help it that you just seem so passionate about preventing anyone from saying anything good about the Red Sox that you often resort to praising teams you clearly don’t follow. I mean, you once defended the Arizona pitching staff and the statistical similarities to Boston as a product of Arizona heat. Did you know Chase Field has a retractable roof and day games are always played indoors? I didn’t agree with your statement that LA is defined by star players. (Your words. Verbatim .). I agree they have some and they spend. They pick their spots. Sometimes they wait for the next class. And sometimes they take chances. The Dodgers have gone spend happy in 2023. Who did they sign in 2022? 2021? Are you comfortable with the Red Sox sitting out free agency even one time? You called Justin Turner a star. Turner was a UIF on the Orioles and Mets they signed as a free agent. Muncy was released by the A’s. These guys you called stars were products of some sort of great scouting that the Dodgers gave an opportunity to. And they do this all the time. They let non-stars turn into stars. Besides these two, there is Chris Taylor, Kike, Jamey Carroll, Logan Forsythe. (Ok Logan struggled a bit and they’re only batting .833.) If Boston grabbed this many utility infielders from other teams, who would get excited about that? Heck we have fans not getting excited about the established infielders we bring in. And the former top prospects. Imagine if the Sox traded Sale for Orlando Arcia instead!
  24. I was higher on Manaea than Wood. (Of course I was also higher on Brad Keller than I was on Wood.) But that shipped sailed.
  25. If you’re argument is they replace their stars with stars, does Lux qualify?
