  1. The Dodgers gave up on Jansen years ago. Estevez might be on their radar. Chase Anderson hasn’t pitched since July 10. He’d be almost be done with an IL stint if he was actually injured. And what’s Cora’s Problem with Winckowski? Doesn’t like that he got these Dodgers out?
  2. Managerial help? WTF is Cora doing? Better get Horn out of there! Gotta keep him fresh so he can pitch again in 15 days!! And why use Chase Anderson when Kenley has been warming up all weekend?
  3. I did include him. I figure Kershaw (75.8 fWAR), Freeman (60.5 fWAR) and Betts (58.5 fWAR) are all locks. Not sure anyone else measures up…
  4. A Bailey Horn sighting!!!! That’s rarer than seeing Bigfoot playing footsy with the Loch Ness Monster!! Now why this rare even couldn’t have happened in the 10th inning last night is a mystery that will never be solved…
  5. The Dodgers likely have three players bound for Cooperstown…
  6. Chase Anderson time. We can’t even hit James Paxton..
  7. A year ago, Kike would have booted that grounder into CF or thrown it into the stands. Or both…
  8. Boston gets: RHSP Erik Fedde (21.7) LHRP Jared Shuster (1.2) SS Paul DeJong (1.0) Total: 24.9 RHH 2b Andy Ibanez (3.3) Total 3.3 Chicago gets: OF Wilyer Abreu (24.7) RHP Ryan Zeferjahn (0.4) Total: 25.1 Detroit gets 2b Nick Yorke (3.0)
  9. Don’t like Fedde? Or passing on Vaughn? I could see the latter…
  10. It does what they wanted to do - shorten games. Plus it created a fun situation in today’s DBacks-Cubs game after Arizona didn’t score in the top of the tenth. Ghost runner Mike Tauchman assumed 2b. Arizona LHRP Joe Mantiply gave an IBB to Dansby Swanson Miguel Amaya beat out a sac bunt on the first pitch.. Cubs loaded the bases on ONE PITCH!
  11. Boston gets: RHSP Erik Fedde (21.7) SS Paul DeJong (1.0) 1b Andrew Vaughn (0.3) RHRP John Brebbia (0.0) Total: 23.0 Chicago gets RF Wilyer Abreu (24.7) 2b Nick Yorke (3.0) RHP Ryan Zeferjahn (0.4) Total: 28.1 Slight overpay for Boston. Also, Boston would need to DFA 3 players. Dominic Smith? Brad Keller? Bobby Dalbec? Alex Speas?
  12. Maybe. BTV certainly gives him a good surplus value. Of course they also give one to Criswell, so maybe they’re not perfect…
  13. MLB is a bit hypocritical about this. Merely putting runners on base gives hitters chances to break RBI records with greater ease. But adding more games for a home run record created this whole decades-long controversy…
  14. I don’t like it either. But it does do exactly what they wanted. MLB knows fans aren’t wild about it, which is why they don’t use it in the postseason…
  15. Doesn’t the first wild card host a 3 game series? Just like the worst division winner?
  16. The Cubs were 51-55 at the deadline, 11.5 games back. No idea how far from a wild card, but presumably closer. However, Bryant, Rizzo, Baez and Kimbrel were all in their final years of their deals. Ditto Darvish, who was dealt in the previous December. It appears to have been a pretty successful fire sale, with several of their acquisitions either making MLB or making the Cubs top ten prospects list by every evaluator. Some names include Pete Crow-Armstrong, Caleb Killian, Nick Madrigal, Alexander Canario, Kevin Alcantara, and Owen Caissie (for Darvish, in the previous December. They did quite well in that firesale, and many fans are starting to realize it…
  17. No. Hoyer is decisive. He isn’t always correct, but he is decisive…
  18. Taillon has 2 years / $36 mill left on his deal after this year. If traded, and there are apparently multiple suitors, an acquiring team would be on the hook for about $6mill this year. Probably worth noting the Cubs are also reportedly in on Toronto catcher Danny Jansen, who’s a free agent himself come November. If the Cubs are targeting Jansen, are they really selling?
  19. We have a mop up guy. That’s Chase Anderson’s job…
  20. Maybe because some of those hitters out there need the statistical boost one gets from facing Greg Weissert?
  21. Since June 28, opponents have a 1.123 OPS against Weissert…
  22. If you want a closer, sure. But this deadline could feature some Yimi Garcia/John Brebbia/Trevor Richards types that can do the job for much less than a Mason Miller price tag…
  23. Like Trey Wingenter? And Mike Baumann is available again! Also, what happened to Dakota Hudson?
  24. Can’t buy anything before someone opens their store…
