  1. Upgrading the DH is one thing. Leaving it as an unfilled position is another. I understand wanting a better DH. But not just not wanting one altogether and letting bench players fill the role on a daily basis for 162 games…
  2. Trying to be San Diego and have shortstops everywhere? This seems like an odd potential acquisition, not because of Mayer but because of Story…
  3. I think trading Yoshida might be more difficult due to his offseason surgery…
  4. My comeback might be more difficult if the Sox were not 12 games under .500 over the past 3 years..
  5. I never called Sale a dangerous hitter…
  6. I hope there’s a cigar lounge in Heaven..
  7. But my fear in Henry will sell the team to someone like Cal Pohlad IV (real person?), whose family mantra is “owning a baseball team is a status symbol, not a business” and who will spend less on the team than he leaves in tips in fancy dining establishments. I figure the list of people who can afford a baseball team while also being frivolous enough with their money to spend how fans want is pretty small. Heck, just being able to afford a team is a small list. And while Henry has gone into financial dormancy on us, it’s much easier to find someone even worse. If the Sox can handle operating in the top third-ish of all spenders and have to use their limited resources more wisely, I’d prefer that than handing the reins over to the next Jeff Loria, was the last guy Henry sold a team to. I don’t want the Sox to be the next Marlins…
  8. Unfortunately for Boston, if Seattle opts to move Bryce Miller or Bryan Woo, they’ll find a much better matchup in our division with Baltimore, as the Orioles have elite 3b prospect Coby Mayo and no place to play him. Bringing back Danny Jansen is an overlooked but solid idea…
  9. Those lists are from 2022/2023. In 2023, both New York teams and San Diego missed the postseason…
  10. Fairbanks BTV surplus value is double that of Finnegan, whose deal I propose was acceptable using their system regardless of what names they choose. (Meidroth is an acceptable substitute for one as well.) Then deal Abreu (29.7) to Tampa for Fairbanks (9.1) and Yandy Diaz (15.4). Favors Tampa a little but I’m ok with it…
  11. I do not. Flaherty was worth 3.1 bWAR last year, but it was the first time he’s topped 1.0 bWAR since 2019. Martinez was worth 4.0 bWAR last year, and has topped 1.0 bWAR every year since returning from Japan. Fairbanks is fairly equal to Finnegan. Both hover around 1.0 bWAR for each of the past 3 seasons…
  12. Sign LHRP Tanner Scott Sign RHP Nick Martinez Trade two from Wikelman Gonzalez, Blaze Jordan and ERC to Washington for RHRP Kyle Finnegan That work?
  13. The wish I recall was to stop resetting. And the originator presumably meant to just stay over. It didn’t work out that way, which is sort the whole point about wishes. As unpopular as Henry is, even his cheapness has him spending more than 2/3 of other owners. It would be much easier to find someone even cheaper. Sox fans need Henry to embrace his old mindset, not to step down…
  14. I was going back further, back when resetting was relevant in Boston. And possibly someone else said it, hence my uncertainty. But regardless of the origin, it was a wish that was granted. Yeah, that worked out as hoped…
  15. Cora doesn’t “rest” players at DH. To him, a day off is a day off..
  16. If anyone other than Rafaela is in CF, it’s most likely Duran…
  17. At this point, Yoshida/Casas/Devers all starting in the status quo is the most likely scenario…
  18. Even I got a little impatient with JD. But in hindsight, 2020 was his only bad year, and it’s an excusable one…
  19. Sounds like he wants to be a screwdriver with a toothpick attached…
  20. This should be filed under “be careful what you wish for.” As cheap as Henry has been lately, he’s still outspending most.owners. A few years ago, I recall someone on this forum (Bellhorn, maybe?) wishing the Sox would stop reducing payroll every three years to reset the tax limit. Well, we got that wish. And everyone is happy, right?
  21. True, except Whitlock likely lacks the clout to call his own shots. Sure he wanted to start, but he had support that made it happen…
  22. Why? Trout is owed close to $100mill more than all three of them combined and would be an excuse not to spend for much longer. Plus he might wind up playing fewer games than each of them, despite the longer deal. Less baseball for more money is the exact opposite direction the Sox need…
  23. One answer is investing more in the bullpen. High-priced starters often get higher AAVs, more years, pitch fewer innings than they used to, and at best can only influence 32 games. Higher priced relief pitchers cost less for fewer years and can influence 50-60 games. We talk about the rotations of the Padres and the Phillies that got them this far. But look at the rotations for the Mets, Tigers, and Guardians, and they’ve all gotten just as far…
  24. He’s his own worst enemy. He could probably play more often if he moved into a LF/DH role…
