    I’ve been assuming all along we’d get Devers at 3b, Bregman at 2b, and Yoshida at DH. But now I’m pivoting towards thinking it will be Bregman at 3b, Grissom at 2b, and Devers at DH…

    Hamilton is limited in the field, but valuable as a pinch runner, which is more useful now until they drop the gimmicky and ridiculous ghost runner rule…

    I agree Devers was just being human. But ultimately, plan shared or not, the job of each ideal to do what the manager says. And I think they will when Cora actually tells them. Of course at this point, this is just media frenzy. Devers, Casas and Bregman better not be caught sharing a bucket of chicken over a few cold ones. Hell will definitely break loose if that happens…

    I could see him there temporarily. From what I understand, he plays the position passably. But he might not be the best option if the need is long term…

    But they are allowed to be human and be disappointed or unhappy at the prospect of it. Lost in all this is Bregman might not only be the best defensive 3rd baseman oil camp, he might also be the best defensive second baseman. At least they have potential improvement there, although it might mean finding a new position for Campbell for a bit when they decide to use him…

    I’m not sure how Jordan even gets into the argument. His chances of playing third base for the Red Sox this season are only marginally better than mine. He’s not third on the depth chart..

    I think stories about his complaints vastly outnumber his actual complaints.

    Still involves benching Rafaela. Refsnyder works just as well (or better?) in a DH platoon…

    I’d do it to get Anthony in the lineup. Maybe limit Rafaela to a super utility / RHH platoon in RF. Demote Romy to Worcester…

    I think the idea might be those skills are not worth much on the IL…

    If they do decide to actually move Rafaela off a starting role, he could at a minimum handle any RF platoon with Abreu, and leave everyone else as is. Refsnyder then platoons at DH with Yoshida. Yoshida doesn't hit LHP well, but he is among their best vs RHP. If Anthony (or Campbell) makes the team and plays LF full time, I could see the merit in that.. Anthony appears slated (per soxprospects) to start in CF in Worcester. Not sure if anyone sees that position in his future...

    They also project Yoshida to start the year on the IL. Is he actually hurt? Either way, this aligns with my prediction that Campbell/Anthony would make the team in the event of an injury, a situation you called "highly unlikely"...

    Would it really be "rushing" Mayer? His main problem has been injuries, but he has done well at every level he has played at. And he has been in the system a lot longer than Campbell. Campbell has played in AAA, but not very much. And AAA is really not much of a developmental step in many organizations, since it is significantly populated by ex-MLB players on minor league deals. Mayer probably does not have Campbell's ceiling, but his roster spot is heavily dependant on an injury right now. Campbell, per Soxprospects. is "passable" at shortstop. But that same source has much higher praise for Mayer at the position. But then this is all only if Story gets hurt, and the Sox will likely keep the Kid Gloves on with him until opening day...

    Phillips is an excellent example. His offensive similarities include players like Terry Pendleton, Jose Offerman and Carney Langford. But his 51 bWAR dwarfs all but Lansford, where his margin was a mere 10 bWAR better (in a couple extra years). One reason might be the multiple positions, with Pendleton (28 bWAR) and Lansfoed (40 bWAR) largely just playing 3b, and Offerman (17 bWAR) playing multiple position but playing them weakly…

    If the Sox want Skenes, Rafaela is NOT the centerpiece. In fact, his contract might make him a detrimental inclusion. The starting offer for Skenes is both Campbell AND Anthony, and maybe more. I know you’re trying to explain his usefulness, but this can be done with less extreme examples. Once you dive into unrealistic evidence, I’m not sure what your point is…
