  1. I wouldn’t decline the chance to offer O’Neil a QO based on his elevated K rates . Nor would I pass due to his declining defense. Now his .693 OPS vs RHP? Thats more of a cause for alarm…
  2. Most sites have him on their candidates list, including MLB.com, NESN, Fangraphs and this site. If MLBTR says definitely not getting one, they’re alone along with you and Hugh
  3. So he’d be at the same price as last year? To me, it’s a weak plan to fit him in, but I still think the QO for him is in play…
  4. I’m sticking with 50/50, which is nice since I can’t be wrong ;) I believe QOs come out this week. Nearly the entire baseball journalism industry says TON gets a QO. Can they ALL be wrong at once?
  5. And is none of that possible? And why are you pretending those are the only players on the Sox who make money? No mention of Whitlock or Bello? Is Duran in his first arb year, for example? Whether or not you support trading Duran, it certainly is a possibility so much so that this very site ran an article about it…
  6. Or … extend Houck and Crawford and maybe stop prioritizing other team’s prospects that might or might not work out over the ones we already have that are working out…
  7. The pro to the QO is he’s in and out in one year. The con is it eats up a big chunk of a budget. But anyone arguing it eats up 1/3 of the budget is using straw man logic. We don’t know what the budget actually is, and even if we did, why are we pretending the Sox can’t make deals to dump other salaries, etc? Here is one thing I can guarantee - the Sox will spend less on pitching than many fans think is necessary, and will NOT dedicate 100% of their spending on pitching…
  8. I’d take that bet, but I need some details on this son first. If he’s a teenager, I’m out but get what you’re doing. Refsnyder really isn’t the answer to the Sox struggles vs LHP…
  9. Pivetta would shock me. O’Neill. Nearly every media outlet - including the ones that are usually right - is predicting Boston gives him one. Breslow has talked about an extension as well, and if so, a QO might make sense as a way of keeping other teams out of the talks…
  10. I would imagine that if O’Neill accepts his QO, that not all of Duran, Rafaela and Abreu would return next season. Also, I certainly could see O’Neill accepting, but it might not be a given. He is only 29 and coming off his second best season of his career. He might view this as his best chance to land multiple years…
  11. Both? Who is the other player allegedly getting a QO?
  12. Everyone says that every year. This team needs pitching, pitching, pitching and should only spend on pitching. And it never happens that way. i think O’Neill is 50/50 to get a QO. The Sox have reportedly talked extension. And free agency isn’t the only way to get pitching…
  13. Where are you looking or what am I doing wrong? I see different values, particularly Arm Strength… https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/tyler-o-neill-641933?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  14. Positive DRS and UZR. Negative OAA (-4). He’s been better, but it’s also one year. And a QO only means one more…
  15. O’Neill’s defensive metrics absolutely do NOT indicate he’s a DH only. Last year, they didn’t scream “two time Gold Glove winner,” but they were far from taking away his leather…
  16. Trevor Story can attest as well…
  17. I’m OK with O’Neill getting a QO. The combination of his skill set, his health, and a one year deal is ideal for breaking in Roman Anthony…
  18. Except that Dangerfield is a Hall of Famer…
  19. Resignings and extensions don’t need to wait for the deadline. Wacha already signed his. Outside of 1 or 2 (maybe) big names, MLB free agency usually goes nowhere at least until after the Rule 5 draft. And quite often lately the a couple of the bigger names are still unsigned when the calendar flips to March…
  20. He’s also 35 and a short term fix. Let him opt out…
  21. Martinez has only signed two MLB contracts in his career - a 3 year $26mill deal with San Diego (which he completed) and a 2 year deal with Cincy in which he is likely to exercise an opt out for the first time in his career. i don’t mind if the Sox sign him for 2-3 years. That’s preferable to signing Burnes or Fried to 7+…
  22. There was an obvious joke in there about you also discriminating against women in MLB. (There are no women in MLB.) However in all seriousness, the Sox need not focus on the age of any starting pitcher. They have numer Young, cheap pitchers already and may not be better off with another arm ready for arbitration increases at the same time. The way this team has been lately, that might force team to make unpopular choices…
  23. Maybe they can get more, but from a team willing to take on Lopez’ entire contract? And yes, Arias over Hamilton is absolutely not a deal breaker for me…
