  1. So? Priester made the Pirates at one point, too. And didn’t you call Yorke the Sox worst first round draft pick ever? A statement that brought a huge sigh of relief to Jason Place, by the way…
  2. Yoshida for Rendon?? Sox get a RHH 3b and move Devers and Casas to 1b/DH roles. What could go wrong? He only has $76mill left on that deal for two more years!!
  3. The backend of Castillo’s contract is only 2026/20/7. Maybe 2028 if his option vests. I absolutely consider him a potential target for Boston, and I think Seattle will be willing to move him. But Yoshida won’t be part of that deal. Abreu maybe, but not Yoshida. We have heard Seattle doesn’t need OF help, but I have my doubts. Their starting RF as of today figures to be Victor Robles, whom they recently extended. But if your problem is weak offense, Victor Robles is not part of the solution, recent hot streaks notwithstanding. This is a guy who was released by the Nationals, and they didn’t do so because his offense was so good they felt a need to share it with the world..…
  4. What if the Sox took back 3 years of Cantillo? BTV lowered his value to -28.4. That means over the next 3 seasons, his median projection is a total of about 5.5 fWAR. Yoshida’s BTV value is -21.3, meaning over the next 3 years, his median projection is about 4.5 fWAR. So it’s close but the Mariners save about $18mill on Castillo alone and $31mill if the throw in Garver. Are you saying the Mariners are not interested in saving $31million with minimal loss of performance - about 1 fWAR. If one fWAR costs $8mill and you can sell one for $31mill, shouldn’t you at least be interested?
  5. Renfroe didn’t get a QO because he wasn’t eligible when he was in Boston. He was still on his arb years. The Sox signed him after he was non-tendered by Tampa and traded him to Milwaukee when he still had one arb year left.
  6. Talksox posted a timely article today about Tyler O’Neill, and concluded Boston will be making him a QO. So that’s TWO bloggers who think as such. Although it is entirely possible the Talksox article sourced and paraphrased the Fangraphs article..
  7. The Hamilton commentary might be referring to his play at SS, which a truly kind person would call “lackluster horse fecal matter.”
  8. Sox are 4th in MLB in wRC and 11th in wRC+. So they are above average but there is room to improve…
  9. I think ticket prices impact attendance as much if not more than team play sometimes. Despite the higher attendance figures, the 2012 team had $42mill less in gave revenue, than the 2018 team. That works out to roughly $500k less per game, despite the 2,000 more attendees… https://www.statista.com/statistics/294146/boston-red-sox-gate-receipts/
  10. Not the point and you know it…
  11. You don’t like giving anyone a QO. This isn’t my idea. Jon Becker from Fangraphs thinks O’Neill gets the offer and rejects it. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-of-the-order-previewing-the-qualifying-offer-decisions/
  12. 1. SP. Prefer an arm for the top of the rotation. 2. LHRP. Thinking Tanner Scott or equivalent. 3. RHB 4. RP 5. Voids filled from trades trying to fill 1 through 4.
  13. O’Neill could get a QO. And if so, he might accept sand it’s not the worst thing…
  14. Are you saying he’s too young? Because you’ve been lamenting the loss of 35yo Chris Sale all season…
  15. I’ll be happy if they put Whitlock and Fulmer in the bullpen. Expecting all three in the bullpen is crazy, even if Henry spends again…
  16. Crawford had actually been pitching well lately. I. His last 5 starts he had a 3.68 ERA and the opposing OPSA of .654. He did go 0-5 in those starts due to run support issues. Barring a trade, Crawford will be in the Sox rotation next year. And if he builds up a little more stamina, he should be a little better…
  17. And this is where the bullpen turns a close game into a blowout, negating the need for the runs the Sox will score later…
  18. Sometimes I think Cora manages this team like he’s trying to show Breslow how much he doesn’t like this roster…
  19. Ok, where?
  20. That doesn’t mean it’s the same as saying we need more WAR. If a company wanted to increase revenue, and the plan was “sell more stuff”, that’s the same level of analysis W-L record brings. But if he at least says “sell more stuff in the Asia-PAC region”, he’s now started the beginning stages of his analytical plan. And that is what WAR can do that W-L can’t…
  21. I struggle to buy into the most casually thrown-around phrase on Sox forums that i certainly don’t understand and I think has just become a blame catch-all, the infamous “screwed up his development.” In the case of Whitlock, what was wrong with his development? He appears to have turned out to be a very talented pitchers. He lacks durability, but not like many where it’s the stamina, something that can be changed. But rather, extensive pitching causes physical problems for Whitlock. The Sox have repeatedly ignored this, operating on the premise that past injuries cannot predict future ones. Only to be proven wrong each time. Whitlock does appear to be best suited for the pen, but he’s already shown his ability to excel there. His development has been fine. This is not like Jeter Downs, where after a missed season, the Sox thrust him ahead two full minor league levels and he was never the same. Maybe THAT screwed up his development. Of course, it’s also possible Downs was simply never all that good. Or Jay Groome. Injury after injury, yet the Sox kept him in a starting role until they finally unloaded him and acquired a useless salary dump. This I might be what Whitlock would look like had the Sox “screwed up his development” IMO. I guess I struggle to buy into the idea that a player who reaches the majors and sticks had his development all that screwed up by someone else…
  22. You think Henry cares? The $17mill he’s paying Sale is the least money he’s paid Sale to not pitch for him. I think the $100ish paid to Sale the previous 4 years was probably more bothersome…
  23. Bloom had an opportunity to deal Sale to Texas in 2022 with Texas taking the entire contract and giving nothing back. Reportedly Bloom wanted a decent prospect pack, and Teaxas refused, so the deal never happened. As for Breslow, maybe if Sale had pitched occasionally between 2020 and 2023, he’d still be here…
