  1. But Criswell isnt the answer to any team’s search for pitching. Last year, he was one of the Sox top 5 SP, and they still only trotted him out 14 times. Every team already has at least one Criswell, and very few if any are looking for another…
  2. Most teams already have Criswell or two, and thats why they need a starter…
  3. I thought demoting Hamilton to activate Yoshida would keep the roster the same size. Are you saying Yoshida isn’t a full man? Is that a short joke?
  4. Blaming the utility infielder does seem a bit dicey. But I think the primary goal is to open a spot for Anthony…
  5. So… the top FOUR teams win three times as often as the bottom ONE team? Isn’t that a bit skewed?
  6. They might hold out until Yoshida returns, since he would likely get a 25 man roster spot. Yoshida to left, Duran to CF. Rafaela as a defensive replacement. Hamilton to Worcester…
  7. Do those sources have names or does their credibility rely on their CAPITALIZATION?
  8. Cut Breslow some slack. He was just getting started and is still relatively new to this whole “who do you extend” strategy. Not like the Sox FO has anyone on board who has any relevant experience and can help…
  9. Reportedly Anthony has already been difficult, but I haven’t heard that anything has been attempted with Mayer. Of course, it would really help to know the offer Anthony allegedly rebuffed. Maybe he is reluctant to extend, but also maybe the Sox were just cheap…
  10. The most important thing about the deals for Rafaela and Bello was the Sox were finally committing to long term contracts for pre-arb players, something they have continued with Campbell and Crochet…
  11. Exactly. Its not the middling salaries on the 1 fWAR players that cause the payroll issues…
  12. Jumped the gun? Bloom didn’t extend Bello until 8 months after Boston fired him! That’s a fair amount of patience in my book…
  13. Hopefully. Rodriguez isnt ranked anywhere yet. But a 19yo raking in A+ is not nothing. Still, I don’t get too worked up over most prospects in A ball. It wasn’t so long ago Miguel Bleis captivated us all…
  14. Ceddane’s contract is such that he need only average 1 fWAR per year to more than justify it. HEs paid like a long term Kike Hernandez..
  15. I think of them more like lottery tickets you haven’t scratched. Sure they might be worth millions and solve all your problems. But most likely not…
  16. Keep them all. They’ll all be needed at some point. And this makes the Priester trade more questionable…
  17. And throw much harder. In the last 10 years, the average fastball is 3mph faster…
  18. Losing 60% of your rotation before opening day isn’t, however…
  19. But at this point in the season, that bad record is self-dependent. Had they won 1 more game against Toronto, for example, Toronto would be a .500 team you didn’t count. Had St. Louis beaten them a couple times, St. Louis would be a team you did count. It’s too early to consider teams over .500 as a metric of anything. One series vs most teams can push them to either side of that benchmark…
  20. And there are a few key contributors there, headlined by Casas and Duran. Some of the D has been outright bad, but the Sox are 10th in DRS. OAA agrees with your assessment and ranks them 27th. Over much larger samples, I expect these rankings to get much closer to each other…
  21. Easy schedules still count. KC was under .500 against non-White Sox teams last year, but still made the postseason. Detroit was right there with them…
  22. And 9 of our first 25 games were started by Sean Newcomb, Richard Fitts, and Hunter Dobbins, none of whom were anticipated to be in the opening day rotation…
  23. I think the Sox might be a bit hesitant to anoint him. Chapman did come in to face the tougher hitters, after all…
  24. And in the end, isn’t that what it’s all about - saving money?
