  1. No idea about his 2022, but his 2023 was going well with Chicago - 3.79 ERA, 117 ERA+, 2.9 bWAR, and 131 K in 121 IP. He fell apart through two team changes. There were stories about divorce, and of course he wound up getting injured pretty quickly in ST last year. It is possible some damage was already done. I’m not worried too much if he’s actually healthy. Of course the same applies to Buehler…
  2. An American car? He’s really left his homeland behind!
  3. Did he clean out O’Neill’s locker?
  4. Exactly. Vegas projections are influenced by non-baseball factors, such as the volume of bets placed…
  5. Bigger? Like 5’7”?
  6. I’m calling it now. 162 wins!! … minus the games in which they finish second. But they will NEVER finish worse than second in any game! Book it!
  7. And hoping for full seasons (or at least larger ones) from Casas, Story and Grissom…
  8. Actually what you said - which I believe to be absolutely true and well-stated - is a fancy way of stating “they want to save money.” Yes they want to win cheaply, but recent history has shown they will sacrifice winning before they sacrifice cheaply…
  9. Abreu makes sense. He isn’t going to replace Tucker in that lineup, but not many can. A 3 WAR Gold Glove right fielder is a definite upgrade over the Jake Meyers/Chas McCormack/Ben Gamel types that appear destined to start for Houston…
  10. Dead pull hitter, too. 72 career home runs, all of them to left field…
  11. Why is Crawford a giveaway? Or Abreu? You think 4 years of a 2.0 bWAR SP plus 5 years of a 3.1 bWAR right fielder is worth 3 years of a 2.7 bWAR third baseman? And I looked on BTV Abreu - $35.3 mill Crawford - $29.7mill Paredes - $29.5mill It seems as though at least one source thinks Crawford for Paredes is even…
  12. “It’s not a question of available resources. We operate using an internal valuation for each player and then follow up accordingly. Using this methodology we feel gives our team the best chance at success.” Whatcha think, on a scale of 1 - 10?
  13. Wow, Buehler already made the list of injury busts. I kind of get the Giolito inclusion, but bear in mind had he produced last year, he’d be gone now…
  14. Tend to agree. While much is made of the loss of his 1.180 OPS vs LHP, no one mentions the loss of his .693 OPS vs RHP. I’d like a RHH bat somewhere, but a lefty-heavy lineup that’s stronger against the much larger population of RHP in MLB isn’t some sort of death nail. The big problem with the SP was that the Sox never had a complete rotation once Giolito and Whitlock went down before April was out. Criswell was fifth on the team with 18 starts. Once Whitlock went down, there was enough season left for 26-28 starts out of a 5th starter. The Sox got a little over half of that…
  15. Not entirely sure that’s a convincing argument…
  16. The clearest path is simply move Abreu for a RHH 3b option and then move Roman Anthony to RF. No team needs an OF upgrade more than the Astros. According to Roster Resource, their starting outfielders are Jake Meyers, Chas McCormack, and Ben Gamel, which isn’t much to show for that $200mill payroll. I expected Pitt, Tampa and KC - you know, teams that don’t spend- to have the worst OF. But nope. Houston. Isaac Paredes isn’t an offensive force, but he’s a good defensive 3b with dead pull tendencies made for Fenway…
  17. It’s all Press Conference Speak. Nothing new. The only CBO who was blatant and upfront was Bloom. And he drew a lot of ire from people who held him to his words. Or worse, their individual interpretation of his words…
  18. Why not just DFA Abreu if you’re giving him away in that deal?
  19. He’s a year younger than Sale was when the Sox traded him away…
  20. Boston should bring back Pivetta and deal Crawford for a RHH third baseman. Bohm? Paredes? Either one creates an opening for Bregman, thus officially ending the off-season…
  21. Reportedly Suzuki was not wild about being primarily a DH. But with Gold Glover Happ in LF, future multi-Gold Glove winner Pete Crow-Armstrong in CF, and superstar Kyle Tucker in RF, where else could he play? I think he played some 2b/3b in Japan, but the Cubs have filled those roles with incumbent Nico Hoerner and former first rounder Matt Shaw. DH is the best fit. So I’m not so sure this deal is about cutting salary. Although it might a factor if the Cubs hope to extend Tucker…
  22. Most player/prospect yield minimal results. Considering the Sox had chances to unload all of Sake’s deal and get nothing, it’s a good sign they at least tried to get something at the cost of several million. And hopefully they don’t just give up on Grissom after a questionable spring…
  23. He’s still a 2 fWAR player despite the declining offense. That makes him worth $16mill per year..
