    I agree with this, but after a long conversation with my Magic 8 Ball, we came to the conclusion that JJ Bleday was more likely than Springer, and made more sense given the Sox performance vs RHP this year. (And because they’d rather prospect load the Reds over the Blue Jays.) Also isn’t Springer like 60? The guy has played 7 innings in the field this year; he might not be the defensive option you claim..

    I think the whole Plan A, Plan B thing starts creating this narrative where Breslow isn’t able to get the players he wants for whatever reason and has to move on to lesser options. He might value two players similarly but hey, he can only talk to one at a time. And maybe I’m the only one to notice this, but he appears to talk to players in alphabetical order. Alonso and Bregman didn’t work out? On to Contreras and Durbin. If this is the case, don’t ever expect him to sign Rob Zastryzny. Actually this would also explain why he ignored Andrew Vaughn last year when the White Sox were trying to give him away. Almost got there. Settled for Toro…

    I think Breslow is going to find the SS market fairly unpalletable, with most of the sellers having top tier (and therefore expensive) shortstops when all he needs is a short term rental. Between Monasterio, Cheng and Sogard, he will probably try to hold down the fort until at least one of Story, IKF, or Mayer returns. Now LF is a semi-wasteland. Duran has been awful here, but once again, the temp solution is pribably in Breslow’s radar. I think the guy he moves on is JJ Bleday. I do also stick to Seth Lugo and Ty France predictions for now. And a RP? John Schreiber? Makes some sense to me. Looking past Abrams, Lopez, Lindor, etc. and ignoring the clear cut fantasies like Witt and de la Cruz for these simpler snd more easily acquired players. From the set of Bleday, France, Lugo and Schreiber. Doubtful on all. Thats my final answer…

    Breslow actually had a stellar off-season with a complete Midas Touch. But it doesn’t help that he’s not remarkably personable. Wong has his fans, probably more than most backup catchers…

    It’s not common for catchers to move at the deadline, despite it happening as recently as yesterday, because pitchers might not like working with someone new. That said - keep Narvaez and Wong. Also, ignore middle infield because some radical groundskeeper clearly planted land mines in the Fenway infield. LF. Move Duran. Get a bat…

    Who knows? Maybe Breslow was holding out for that money. It’s all guesswork anyway. Ah the old “things work out in spite of the GM” line. Why not just say “I do not like this CBO and will never give him credit and any success he has is pure luck because that’s how I want and need it to be”?

    Unless the Cards wanted too much and Breslow switched gears. Trades usually do take longer because contracts need to be reviewed, etc. But I don’t know or care. That situation clearly worked out for Boston. I like Contreras better and free agency adds this whole issue with contract length. But I will give Alonso this - after Matt Olson, he is probably the most durable player in MLB. At least so far…

    Out of control on Eyanson? The highest praise Ive seen for Eyanson was someone saying they’d rather deal Early, which isn’t exactly an endorsement for Cooperstown. Preferring Eyanson over the 105 career IP of Early? I wouldn’t call that hype. I would also consider Eyanson trade fodder…
