  1. He probably shouldn’t see the OF again, given his abilities or lack thereof. But since Bloom promised him he’d get to be the DH, Devers needs to step aside. (Sarcasm.)
  2. If Cora didn’t like Devers at 3b, why was his campaign around signing Bregman predicated on moving the Gold Glove third baseman over to 2b?
  3. He might end up being the worst defensive 1b, as well. And if that was his concern, it’s at least understandable. In my viewpoint, his promise was kept and he lost the 3b job on his own. But he has portrayed himself as a victim, and instead he looks like an entitled complainer. He’s an adult who should know better…
  4. Well, yes and no. He did actually have shoulder surgery and I would hope you can see how that affects his ability to make throws from the outfield. But he is a bad fit here if Devers remains at DH…
  5. You replied to my statement, not Cora’s. It is true if a bad defensive player refuses a managerial request to move, HEs a bad teammate. As I stated earlier, Cora has been unwilling to move Devers multiple times now. But is this an infication that he likes Devers at 3b or thinks Devers can be difficult?
  6. Yoshida is certainly ready to DH. But I get the impression Cora is not wild about Yoshida sometimes…
  7. Would it be? A significant number of players change positions early in their career for any number of reasons. Can’t play old position. Old position blocked. Need someone for another position. Etc…
  8. You’re replying to a generic statement independent of Devers…
  9. If that were the case, the odd-fitting “Story to 1b” solution checks all the boxes. Especially since Story doesn’t complain when moved…
  10. Playing bad D doesn’t make you a bad teammate. But playing bad defense and refusing the manager’s requests to move you does…
  11. Cora originally wanted Bregman for 2b, not 3b. He’s been reluctant to move Devers multiple times this year. Is this because he wants Devers at 3b or because he knows Devers can be difficult? He has never expressed interest in upholding this alleged promise…
  12. So what was said? I keep asking. What if Bloom said “ as long as I’m here, you’re my third baseman”? Not that Breslow is accountable for Bloom’s verbal promises anyway. But more important, they gave him two years and Devers LOST THE JOB. At some point, isnt Devers accountable for his own play?
  13. So Devers gets the “not a bad teammate” vote from someone who’s not actually a teammate. Know who disagrees with you? His teammates. https://nypost.com/2025/05/09/sports/red-sox-teammates-reactions-revealed-as-rafael-devers-wages-war-against-front-office/ Devers got promised third base. And during two years, he lost the job by being the worst defensive third baseman in MLB. Everyone who was worse (aka Jake Burger) was moved off the position. If Devers could actually play third, he’d still be there…
  14. 1. What does “foreseeable future” mean? 2. So that promise exempts him from temporary moves? The Sox didn’t get a “real first baseman” because in today’s age of 8 man bullpens, you simply cannot put eight MLB caliber starting players on your bench. And Breslow didn’t sign Devers. Bloom did. Breslow was hired 8 months later….
  15. An arbitration-eligible first baseman with 350 PAs and a .770 OPS over the past two years is not going to be in demand this offseason…
  16. Baltimore might not be so ready to wave the white flag in May, especially early May.
  17. Miguel Cabrera came up as a SS and basically played wherever they told him, including the OF at one point. The 2024 Padres went to the NLCS with a lineup featuring 7 players they told to move off shortstop. Only Higashioka never played the position…
  18. True. Most first basemen in MLB move there. The ones who came up playing 1b fall into one of 4 physical categories . 1. Left-handed 2. Really tall 3. Both 4. Paul Goldschmidt and Pete Alonso
  19. Did Bryce Harper balk at 1b? Not sure. Did Blad Jr. say “I won’t “? I don’t know. I do know both moved…
  20. He absolutely might. As far as I’m concerned if/when that happens, all is forgiven…
  21. You might be right. Devers wasn’t the only MLB player this off-season to be vocal about his move to DH. Seiya Suzuki also did. Both situations contain a fair amount of parallels. Both teams acquired star players possibly for just one year, for example. And both players did move to DH. Assuming Cora wants Rafael there, if Devers eventually moves and this was just venting frustration, it’s fine with me. But if he adamantly refuses this temporary move, that does make him a problem..
  22. I don’t agree with Brock’s assessment that Devers couldn’t play 1b, but I do see why Devers is upset. He’s basically being told “you suck at 3b.” But it’s time for some reality. He does. He’s in MLB solely because he can hit at an elite level. If he hit like Romy Gonzalez - who is probably one of the best 500 hitters currently walking the face of the Earth - Devers isnt even a major leaguer…
  23. But what was promised? Third base for 10 years? Five years? No temporary moves (which this would clearly be since Casas is hurt, not dead)? Third base even if he bulks up to 400lbs and makes 200 errors? What was promised?
  24. And what was that exactly? For how long? Under all circumstances, not even temporary moves? Enlighten us… You’ve already thrown out the hypothetical scenario where Devers doesn’t sign without the promise. So why not put it in the contract? After all, a contract is just a promise in writing. And you’ve told us
