  1. Regardless of what you think, the farm system is toast. And it was obvious this would happen once Dombrowski was hired. The only question that remains is whether or not it was worth it...
  2. I don't think this type of thing is as quick as many fans think. It takes a lot of time and effort for two teams to make a trade. That one trade is a reaction to a deal made by another team is probably more often just a matter of happenstance and/or media say-so...
  3. You left out part of my reasoning. If the last game or second last game is important, the Yankees can pitch Happ (0.84ERA, 0.94WHIP) against Boston and not risk juggling their rotation to get Severino or Sabathia against us on short rest. Eovaldi (6.14ERA, 1.23 WHIP) doesn't give us the same advantage against the Yankees...
  4. Actually I would have preferred they got deGrom. Getting deGrom would have made a more significant dent in their farm/future, and Happ has pitched quite well against Boston this year, which could be a huge factor in that last series of the year...
  5. Ok less than a big deal. The Jays got Brandon Drury and Billy McKinney, who is now joining his fourth organization in 5 years...
  6. Well, we just put Johnson in the pen. And someone else (Pomeranz?) might join if/when Wright or Rodriguez return...
  7. Can I call him “Pineapple Head”?
  8. While I really doubt that number is arbitrary, it actually seems a little low to me. I would have guessed closer to 1 in 75,000 or 1 in 100,000...,
  9. His career numbers as a starter include quite a few extremely good seasons from when he was a far better pitcher with a lot less wear and tear on his arm...
  10. The bigger concern is what Toronto gets. If they get a decent building block that can haunt us when our core is reaching free agency and becoming difficult to retain, it will close the gap between the two teams...
  11. Also Pomeranz is struggling physically and been a good relief pitcher throughout his career. A move to the pen might not only benefit the Sox, but also Pomeranz. That said, I don’t see the harm in giving him another chance at starting. ...
  12. He had the surgery before he was drafted, which happened out of high school. I wasn’t talking about elective surgeries, but rather these 17 and 18yo kids who think they need to challenge the radar gun repeatedly to get a scholarship or signing bonus...
  13. Would it help if I made more references to “Prune Face” Henry more often and got mad at him for not spending his entire fortune on the Red Sox?
  14. The Sox have been using their long term, homegrown guys at catcher and 3b; growing pains are expected. But 2B has been filled by bench guy/role player types all year. I think Brandon Phillips, who has had a very underrated career, came on board too late to be ready and be any use. I’d like a second base upgrade. But I don’t expect one...
  15. I think John Cleese said it best when he said “My nipples explode with delight!”...
  16. I can always appreciate someone else’s point of view. But I do and always will point out other possibilities, either observational or sabermetric or just flat out different. (It is funny how many do not appreciate alternative viewpoints.)
  17. It might be worth pointing out that the acquisition of Eovaldi increases bullpen depth by putting a former starter in that role. If everyone is ever healthy, that might put Pomeranz in the bullpen. Whoever goes back there will certainly take a few innings and lighten the load for Kelly. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if the emergence of Hembree hasn’t lessened the need for a back end reliever in DD’s eyes...
  18. I am happier that he did it, as I said in some other thread. And it only took injuries to 3 starting pitchers to make it happen!!!
  19. ... which is why Lucas Giolito had TJ surgery in high school..,
  20. No but having more options for a fourth playoff starter is a good thing, especially since we don’t know who will be healthy...
  21. While I shouldn’t be lumped in for complaining about all DD deals, although I have about a few (but not this one), this post absolutely HAS to be about me...
  22. I have to file this one as something I’ve been saying DD needs to do. He managed to get more pitching depth without (in my opinion) depleting the farm much. I’ve even mentioned Beeks specifically as trade fodder...
  23. Devers has two. One of Tyler Skaggs in April and one off Sonny Gray in June...
  24. According to Wikipedia, Swihart played SS. And catcher. And had a 98mph fastball. I think he played everywhere on that team at once. Like Bugs Bunny against the Gas House Gorillas..
  25. I think DD has trded away too many prospects. But I never really considered Jalen Beeks a prospects, so this latest move doesn't bother me at all...
