  1. Isn’t he on the 60 day DL? If so, he isn’t taking up roster space...
  2. I get that. It was more about pointing out the pen is good, and isn’t all Kimbrel. On the other hand, if Dombrowski gets a bullpen arm, I doubt I’ll complain since we really have no untouchables left on the farm at this point. It could be pointed out Dombrowski has acquired a bullpen arm. The acquisition of Eovaldi has pushed Johnson to the pen. I expect at some point Johnson and Pomeranz might change roles, but this still applies..,
  3. Buttrey has been in the system a few years and been bypassed by other arms who have actually been released. I don’t think Dombrowski valued him that much...
  4. Before last night’s marathon, the Sox bullpen was tied for fourth in MLB with Houston in fWAR, trailing only the Yankees, Padres, and Brewers. I can understand that improving isn’t a bad idea, but why do people think this bullpen is so hopeless?
  5. Usually you can tell a trade is equal if both sides think they got ripped off as well...
  6. Do we really have a choice?
  7. Paulino is the pitching version of Chavis. This actually was a toppable offer for the Sox, but we can let it go since we now know he was working on another deal at the time...
  8. If it’s an avulsion, it becomes a narrowed stress concentrator, which does make a fracture more likely if he comes back too soon...
  9. I can’t do the managerial mistake argument. Too many of those with a certain someone over on free forums in which he would acknowledge that the manager knew the situation better, but Farrell was still wrong just because. I think the straw that broke my back was his insistence that Farrell brought in the wrong reliever and should have used Barnes. Even after Farrell had a press conference saying Barnes was not available, this poster called Farrell out and insisted Barnes was available...
  10. Cooler than Aaron Hicks?
  11. I have no idea what I would have done because I don’t know what kind of trade offers Cherington and Dombrowski have received in the past 5 years...
  12. Soxprospects.com on the page with the 40 man roster...
  13. That comment had nothing to do with any book, but was an attempt to compare Alex Cora to Sean Spicer...
  14. Did you just argue it would be harder to find a backup catcher than a right fielder? And try to remove all actual baseball ability from the argument? The entire argument about risking/replacing Betts does hinge on him being Mookie Betts, a current MVP candidate. A Gold Glove winner. An elite all around player. Swihart is none of those things. If the Sox were offered a player and the dealing team said “we’ll take either Betts or Swihart. Your call,” would you really consider how much “potential” Swihart had? Right now Swihart is a backup catcher trying to seize an opportunity. In that respect, he’s basically Tyler Flowers or Devin Mesoraco or JR Murphy. Sure he might step up and succeed, but will he ever be an MVP candidate?
  15. Maybe he meant Bobby Doerr...
  16. Maybe the Yankees are going to see if Washington goes into sell mode and make a pitch for Scherzer...
  17. Not you, but this point started with notpinch hitting Moreland as a mistake. Turns out it was a case of informed inaction...
  18. Eovaldi’s track record for health makes him a risky keep, more so than most 28yo pitchers...
  19. Maybe. But he didn't make a less-informed one than we came on this board...
  20. Mookie is too valuable to put in position to be taken out in DP like Pedroia was...
  21. And his +5.3 UZR/150 at 2B isn't so bad. It's better than Holt (1.0) although muss less than Nunez (15.3)...
  22. But the point is, Cora knew the answers to those questions...
  23. As an old colleague of mine used to say, "if you stand still, you're roadkill"
  24. Sox still need a backup catcher.
