  1. That comment had nothing to do with any book, but was an attempt to compare Alex Cora to Sean Spicer...
  2. Did you just argue it would be harder to find a backup catcher than a right fielder? And try to remove all actual baseball ability from the argument? The entire argument about risking/replacing Betts does hinge on him being Mookie Betts, a current MVP candidate. A Gold Glove winner. An elite all around player. Swihart is none of those things. If the Sox were offered a player and the dealing team said “we’ll take either Betts or Swihart. Your call,” would you really consider how much “potential” Swihart had? Right now Swihart is a backup catcher trying to seize an opportunity. In that respect, he’s basically Tyler Flowers or Devin Mesoraco or JR Murphy. Sure he might step up and succeed, but will he ever be an MVP candidate?
  3. Maybe he meant Bobby Doerr...
  4. Maybe the Yankees are going to see if Washington goes into sell mode and make a pitch for Scherzer...
  5. Not you, but this point started with notpinch hitting Moreland as a mistake. Turns out it was a case of informed inaction...
  6. Eovaldi’s track record for health makes him a risky keep, more so than most 28yo pitchers...
  7. Maybe. But he didn't make a less-informed one than we came on this board...
  8. Mookie is too valuable to put in position to be taken out in DP like Pedroia was...
  9. And his +5.3 UZR/150 at 2B isn't so bad. It's better than Holt (1.0) although muss less than Nunez (15.3)...
  10. But the point is, Cora knew the answers to those questions...
  11. As an old colleague of mine used to say, "if you stand still, you're roadkill"
  12. Sox still need a backup catcher.
  13. He has played 2B and both Holt and Nunez have significant experience at 3B...
  14. Milwaukee designated Brad Miller today. He’s putting a similar OPS to Holt and out hitting Nunez. He’s shown himself to be capable of much more. The likely cost? A non-40 man player.
  15. Or notintheirrightminds...
  16. Not sure why fans don’t like Harper. For a guy who was labeled “the LeBron of Baseball” at 15, he has handled himself pretty well. To me, he always looks like he is having fun out there...
  17. More than likely we just get s rental 2B (who is clearly not Brian Dozier) due to the price tag. At this point, the lack of rumors makes me think Holt and/or Nunez is the plan for the rest of the year. Sure it can be improved upon, but the situation isn’t dire IMO...
  18. Per MLBTR, the Sox have shown a mild interest in Joey Gallo. While I get the appeal of the dirt cheap young slugger with a pure Fenway swing, it does make me wonder that if they could get him, where would he play this year?
  19. So this looks like it may have been one of the very, very rare instances where the inside information that the manager had turned out to be part of the decision...
  20. If you can get a logo together, we can print and sell T-shirts...
  21. Were any of them the 20 strikeout performances by Roger Clemens, Kerry Wood or Randy Johnson?
  22. ... passed away this week at 49.
  23. The Cardinals DFA’d Greg Holland and Tyler Lyons. Holland is having an interesting season with a career worst 7.92 K/9, a career worst 7.92 BB/9, and a career worst 7.92 ERA. Lyons is basically doing nothing different than he has ever done except this year he is victimized by an insane .464 BABIP. Walks are up for him, but so are K’s. Of the two, the lefty Lyons appears more likely to rebound quickly.,,
  24. I say take it further. We need to start pre-firing the manager before he even starts the season. It’s the best way to prevent him from making mistakes...
