  1. Well, he’s no Gio Urshela...
  2. I’ve white flagged both, so at best I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised if they make a WC game. I am in favor of seeing any of the borderline kids like Johnson, Travis, Hernandez, etc. have a future. It’s not like the MLB starters have been giving this team a chance anyway...
  3. This will be settled before Betts. If the Sox are resetting or taking budget into account, keeping Bradley isn’t likely. And even if the next CF isn’t as good defensively, undoubtedly the Sox front office has made the same observation as me - that not as many balls were hit to the CF this year. This means the focus might shift from expensive elite defense towards significantly cheaper adequate defense...
  4. And Taylor and Muncy...
  5. The Dodgers won’t spend on Betts. They don’t give out those mega contracts. There’s a reason they passed on Harper and passed on Stanton’s contract..,
  6. You know how to party...
  7. Now now. Don’t go using the failure to understand math of other people to justify your own...
  8. Well he might not need to use it to sign that contract tender...
  9. Nimmo wouldn’t be useful to the Sox if they trade Betts? The Sox couldn’t use an outfielder with a career .383 OBP? I think Nimmo is a nice starting point, but pass on the oft-injured Matz. Also pass on Smith. Bear in mind, as the deal is before the season, it isn’t simply one year of Betts. It’s one year of Betts plus a draft pick....
  10. A grand total of 1 slide in that PowerPoint...
  11. And oft-injured Steve Pearce was mercifully put to sleep...
  12. He’s already making them forget about Yasiel Somethingorother...
  13. Maybe he’ll start candlepin bowling since he is in Boston...
  14. That’s not what I said. I said teams looking for a catcher will look to the Dodgers, who are loaded there. They won’t want Vazquez period. They might have interest in Betts if they lose their third straight World Series. Pederson and Taylor are not deterrents to acquiring Betts. In fact, they are reasons to make that move. My guess for the Dodgers is they keep Smith and deal Ruiz to Pittsburgh for Felipe Vasquez...
  15. I felt that way about Bogaerts...
  16. If I want a catcher this offseason, I’m calling the Dodgers, who defensive whiz Austin Barnes, rookie Will Smith, and MLB-ready stud prospect Keibert Ruiz. And only one home plate to defend...
  17. Also he’s also the only thing keeping Sandy Leon and Juan Centeno from splitting starting catching duties...
  18. Except hat Sprowl was an unproven commodity whereas Owings had a sufficient career that everyone knew he was nothing and had been already released by the worst team in the AL...
  19. Entirely possible...
  20. Didn’t the Sox trade Shaw a few years ago? And why trade Chavis when you’ll probably get back a prospect worse than Chavis? Also this team will suck for 3 years minimum. Pass...
  21. So one more Yankee reaches base for every 1,000 who come to the plate and you go out of you way to say it’s higher? Said it before, say it again - the biggest problem with baseball stats is people don’t understand math...
  22. Really? Not even a little? I think they’re the biggest culprits, but you can’t simply tell them “do your job right” and expect it to make a difference. Now the same isn’t necessarily true for DD and Cora...
  23. Yawkey passsed away a long time ago (1976). I moved out of Massachusetts in 2000 and at that time, the Sox NEVER ran promotions about minor league talent. This is a team that completely ignored the last Hall of Famer to come up through their system (Wade Boggs) and didn’t even move him to MLB until they had an injury to a utility player. So I have no idea what you’re referring to. Can you please provide some specifics?
  24. I don’t mind Bradley’s bat at sub-.700 OPS for an 8th or 9th spot hitter. But he made $8.8mill this year and could make close to $11mill next year. His overall play just won’t justify that salary for a team that might be taking budget into account and resetting. If the Sox do plan to reset (which they should), no way they keep Bradley unless something unforeseen happens (Price Trade, Martinez opts out). For a lot less than $11mill, the Sox can get another all glove/no bat outfielder....
  25. Sportrac has the Sox at $57mill below the first threshold prior to arbitration cases. The Sox have 4 likely expensive arb cases in Betts, Bradley, Barnes and Benintendi. Not likely this reached $57mill, but the Sox could come uncomfortably close. Betts is a tough call, but with that type of headroom I think they keep him, pay him, and reset. Benintendi is an obvious choice. Bradley is an extremely likely non-tender. At $8.8mill this year, he might get $11mill+ in arbitration (depending on what each side offers). His overall play just doesn’t justify that salary. Barnes might be in the $3-4mill range tops. But if it comes down to it, I could see the Sox moving him. (Atlanta?) I hope they don’t think he could convert to starting....
