  1. Dalbec for Adam Conley?
  2. Not the first time it’s resurfaced and fooled someone. Probably not the last, either...
  3. This thread was created and titled in October, 2017, the day after Cora was hired. It’s was made as a joke, which is more obvious if you read the early posts...
  4. Dombrowski hasn’t. He’s sticking to the idea you don’t need a big money closer in October if you build a deep enough rotation, which has been his MO for most of his career. Spend on the starters - skimp on the bullpen. Personally I don’t think you need a big name closer who costs lots of money and only handles the ninth inning. But you do need relief pitchers who don’t suck...
  5. Cora might have stuck with Barnes, but with the worst hitters on the Guardians coming up, he probably figured he didn’t need him...
  6. Weber isn’t really a farm system product. He’s a career minor leaguer who pops up in the majors every now and then. Keep those expectations in check...
  7. It’s not like anyone is targeting Brad Hand here. The only name suggested was a 29yo career minor leaguer...
  8. He also has a 5.09 ERA, but only a 3.28 FIP...
  9. Who are you thinking of? Anyone on the 40 man roster?
  10. The Angels have a deep pen and a glut of infield injuries. They have very little depth even with the explosion of Tommy La Stella, since their only other infielder (David Fletcher) is used everywhere. The Sox could give up an infielder (Nunez?). While Robles, Buttrey, Bedrosian, and Anderson are most definitely not available for Nunez, maybe late bloomer Felix Pena?
  11. Very likely. But it’s not like Henry has been handcuffing Dombrowski with his $240mill payroll...
  12. The thing is, it’s not like Brasier had a tough assignment. Perez is a career .208 hitter and Allen was batting .087 at the time. I think there is a strong possibility that the 2018 Ryan Brasier and his 30IP might not have been completely representative...
  13. $$$$$$ And Kimbrel’s demands aren’t likely to go down much as the draft approaches...
  14. Apparently he is, according to his lawyer. He declines all interviews..
  15. The Bartman saga was a particularly odd one. He was reviled in Chicago, where the Chicago Sun Times (motto: “A 2-ply newspaper for your comfort”) actually ran a story the next day giving out his name, home address, and work address. And our governor/felon Rod Blagojevich publicly suggested he enter witness protection. All Bartman did was act like a fan before the incident and become immensely classy afterwards. Marlins fans offered him money, which he donated to charity. Other fans raised money via GoFundMe to bring him to 2015 and 2016 postseason games. Bartman donated that money, too. The Cubs even offered him a chance to throw out the first pitch in the 2016 World Series and, later, an opportunity to be in the celebratory parade. Bartman declined everything. (Seriously.) And as far as anyone knows, he has never returned to Wrigley...
  16. My biggest gripe with Cora is his dedication to Brasier. While Ryan was very good last year as the fourth option in the bullpen, it’s entirely possible there is a reason no other teams touched him for 5 years. And the Sox might have pinned too much responsibility to is 30 IP from last year. That said, it’s not like Dombrowski did anything to give Cora better options. It’s not like Cora is bypassing Aroldis Chapman to get those save chances to Brasier...
  17. Dalbec will be in another organization by August...
  18. But... but... but... then who would back up Moreland at first base?
  19. Other than Brandon Jennings, what other NBA players have followed this type of path?
  20. Like Andres Escobar, the Colombian defender who scored an auto goal for the US that eliminated his team from the 1994 World Cup and was then murdered...
  21. Oh look. A Mad Stork sighting. It’s been months. How about that “lucky to win 85 games” prediction of yours from last year? Hey you were only off by 34...
  22. It’s a really safe bet his football contract has a clause about not playing baseball, among other sports, probably with some extra compensation. This is hardly a unique situation. The Cubs had to negotiate a bonus of $10mill into the contract of Jeff Samardjiza in order to convince him to abandon football contractually...
  23. DFA Josh Smith. He will go unclaimed. (The Sox still have one open spot on the 40 man roster.) Promote Mejia and sign Rodney. Send Velasquez and Lakins back to Pawtucket...
  24. Add them both. One is available to everyone and we already have the other...
  25. Dombrowski’s “I can build that bullpen for less dollars” strategy might not be so perfect...
