  1. The higher dWAR for Vazquez is very likely attributable to having over twice as many innings at catcher. The passed balls might be why the number is so close...
  2. Ryan Weber is a nice story, but let’s not go overboard here. He’s less than 2 years younger than Porcello and still has a ways to go to bring his career total to 100 IP, which is a total Porcello approaches every 3 month stretch of his career...
  3. Gee I don’t know. Jacko seems 100% certain that JD opts out but Aroldis Chapman won’t...
  4. The only way the Sox reset is if the team is awful. But right now, they are not. However, they still might try to stay under at least one of the limits. And JD would be wise to wait at least one more year before opting out...
  5. In While you claim Davis is no Kevin Garnett, statistically Davis has been better through age 25 with more PPG, more RPG, more BPG, and a better eFLG%
  6. The only one anyone should even consider is Carlos Torres. Although Rosscup already has his next job...
  7. It’s been pointed out that with his service time, Holt cannot be demoted without his approval...
  8. Travis Larkins can
  9. Clayton Richard is actually a pretty good pitcher, but he lost a couple seasons to Thoracic Outlet Syndrome...
  10. If JD opts out and signs with another team, I expect DD to sign either Josh Donaldson or Jose Abreu...
  11. With Chavis playing 2b, Holt and Nunez are the redundancy on this team. The argument against keeping Pearce is that Moreland is playing well enough to keep him benched. But we’ve seen first half heroics from Moreland before,..
  12. Boras just does his best to get the most lucrative opportunities for his clients. The decision to go to Japan was still made by Stewart...
  13. They left out the lyrics where he pooped in the hallway and repeatedly bit my wife’s hands...
  14. The closest comparison I can think of would be Brandon Jennings, who signed to play basketball in Italy as opposed to playing college ball. Jennings strongly recommended against doing so afterwards, for multiple reasons. Despite even Italy being more American than Japan, he was not prepared nor mature enough to handle being in a foreign country alone at such a young age, and it was evident even on the court. What Stewart is doing could be infinitely more difficult...
  15. And, also, not a movie. It makes sense for him financially, but moving to a country where you don’t speak the language is difficult enough. And it’s going to be much harder given the immense differences between the Japanese and American cultures. I don’t speak Spanish, but I moved to Mexico for a while in my late 20s. And I was completely lost, despite Mexico being comparatively much more American than Japan. Sure I couldn’t read or pronounce anything, but at least I recognized the letters from the alphabet and a lot of the words are actually similar. Japan is an entirely different matter. Yeah he’ll have a personal translator for all things baseball, but that guy isn’t going to hang around him 24-7. It’s going to be really weird for Carter Stewart...
  16. Porcello’s return will be 100% dependent on his asking price and years. While he has said he wants to return to Boston, they all say that until free agency. Dombrowski did draft him out of high school and stick him in the MLB rotation 2 years later. But also traded him away to Boston (in a deal that sent one of the most durable players in MLB for one of the least). It’s going to come down to finding money. If JDM opts out, the Sox probably save a little bit there (since they’re very likely to bring JDM back at a lower AAV), but the Sox don’t have any major deals coming off the books except for the long-departed Pablo Sandoval.
  17. Hey since a 3-8 start, this team is 23-15 (.605)
  18. My puppy’s name in the shelter was Caleb. But now his name is Blue...
  19. I think when Bradley starts to really struggle at the plate, fans start questioning whether or not his defense is really worth it. And I get that...
  20. No, but if we had a hypothetical situation where you were only allowed having a glove-only catcher or a glove-only CF, which is preferable? I think most would agree the catcher is...
  21. Or if it’s more a function of increased bullpen usage. If more relievers enter games with leads if 3 runs or less, more will be credited with blown saves, regardless of the inning...
  22. I’m actually leaning towards the “Time to move on from JBJ” side. The smart move might be to non-tender him and try to bring back Porcello...
  23. The downside is that he’s a teenager moving halfway around the world to a new country, culture, and language...
  24. Again, not all of those blown saves happen in the ninth. Actually this year we’ve seen a few surprises in the closing role with pitchers like Kirby Yates, Luke Jackson and the return of Greg Holland...
  25. Look down below at Team LOB. The individual numbers in the box score are often shared by multiple hitters who leave the same runners on base on the same inning...
