Johnson has a 5.09 ERA as a starter this year, but a 9.90 ERA as a reliever (Ok that number does include last night's game).
Last year, Johnson had a 4.15 ERA as a starter and a 4.19 ERA as a reliever...
So if the $56mill is true in order to reset, the Sox have arbitration cases for Betts, Barnes, Bradley, Rodriguez, Benintendi, Workman, Hembree and Wright.
Who do you think should be tendered, non-tendered, and traded?
They may have to unload another deal or two.
I’d be surprised if they tendered Hembree a contract and there is the possibility of moving Barnes.
Obviously moving Price would be prudent, and don’t kid yourself, it is possible. The only question is, is what’s coming back going to make that deal worthwhile?
... got released by the Brewers. He’s owed about $600K this year and has a $4.3mill option for next year, and is one year removed from an All Star season with the Brewers.
Grab him for next season, DD! You paid more money to bench players Holt, Pearce and Nunez each this year!
And that number could have been improved if DD paid any attention to the bullpen instead of losing both Kimbrel and Kelly and somehow concluding “Colten Brewer should be enough here.”
It is crazy, but these games have a following.
The weird thing is, international competition is getting to be a big thing but the stranglehold the cable companies have limits the US severely...
You’re assuming he’s decided.
One has to wonder if he’ll have Dombrowski/Romero/Insert New GM Name here clean house of some of these loftier contracts.
Plenty of people will say Price is untradable, but I bet those same people said the same thing about Robinson Cano...
Well it might not. But if the team is resetting for 2021 it helps.
2020 is a very pivotal season. Do the Sox keep spending, something Dombrowski doesn’t appear to do very well? Or do they step back and regroup for one year?
I am not going to accuse Boras of being part of any sort of illegal tampering without anything more than the internet rumor mill. You’d think his reputation alone would be enough to keep clean.
I think JD holds off for one more year, when his pay drops by $4mill. If he did opt out this year, it would be awesome for Boston...
