  1. Overall pitching depth is an issue. The Sox has 5 good starters, but when one gets hurt - which happens every year to every team - they have no one capable of filling in even adequately...
  2. I can take a guess . Darwinzon Hernandez and Jarren Duran...
  3. I’ve never seen anywhere in sabermetrics that “anyone can play anywhere.” In fact, sabermetrics promotes different values to different OF positions. The defensive metrics can be heavily influenced by players who play multiple positions and play them well, but that’s absolutely not the same thing. Not even close. And while Betts had a bad game in CF, he actually has shown himself in the past to be very capable of that position...
  4. 10 year deals are insane. But with Betts, there will be no reasonable middle ground. He’s either signing a 8-10 year deal or leaving after next season. He could be traded next month, but how many superstar players have been dealt for a package that was even close to what they brought to the team?
  5. With 6 weeks until the July 31st hard trade deadline, the Sox have to decide ”buy or sell.” Since the team has played .500 for the first 2 1/2 months, and looks like a steaming pile of mediocrity lately, it’s easy to claim “sell!” But should they? I know the idea of making the postseason with little chance at a title is unappealing. But 10 teams make the postseason and 9 go home losers. The odds are always stacked against you. To me, while my opinion is moot anyway, I want them to sell. But sell what? Porcello is the best of the pending FA crowd. But what’s he really worth in a deal? The best comps from last year’s trade market are Eovaldi (Jalen Beeks) and JA Happ (Billy McKinney and Brandon Drury). All three combined are not some sort of farm-changing haul. The best to expect from a Porcello deal is “rebuilding the bench,” not “rebuilding the farm”. Mitch Moreland will command even less. And Pearce is a step down from there. Nunez and Holt will appeal to many team. But the return of “high minors wild card” is the ceiling. Sure, sometimes you get Ty Buttrey. But sometimes you get Williams Jerez. Still, given the returns from some of the infielders (excluding Machado) that changed uniforms last July, these two might be the Sox best trade chips. The controllable players could be dealt, and for obvious reasons usually yield better results. But I would be surprised if DD moved Bradley or Benintendi, especially since the outfielders in the high minors are practically non-existent. And the idea of blowing the whole team up and dealing everyone after 2 1/2 frustrating months is laughable. If you can’t handle 2 1/2 months of mediocrity, why would you be so gung ho for 3-4 years of sub-mediocre baseball?
  6. Are we at the point where any time a team makes a move that doesn’t work out immediately or someone disagrees with, they blame the sabermetric crowd? As if no team ever made a questionable or unsuccessful move before sabermetrics came along?
  7. Two and a half months of 10 and 13 year contracts are not going to justify them either way...
  8. Not overly impressed with Darwinzon Hernandez. Great first inning, striking out the side on 11 pitches with serious MLB velocity. But massive control issues ensued. He is only 22, but maybe Boston isn’t the place to learn how to throw a strike. Like Dalbec, I don’t think I’d mind so much if he was dealt. (Although the Sox need to completely reverse direction to be considered buyers this season.)...
  9. Lam... No “b”. But it’s a funny expression either way...
  10. Trout got well over $400mill...
  11. So two inconsequential prospects? They got zero for Bruce. What’s two times zero again?
  12. He gets to walk right in. Because when you’re with Hernandez and Poyner, EVERYBODY gets to walk...
  13. He’s on a lamb? That should make for a slow getaway...
  14. I think it was your Faux News/MSNBC/CNN commentary that inspired the political rebuke...
  15. Also he is batting .000 when he gets 3 strikes...
  16. 1. The Sox are potentially not buyers. 2. With Encarnacion’s contract, you might not be receiving better offers. Jay Bruce was also having a good year and netted the Mariners a “prospect” whose MLB future isn’t likely to be that much better than mine...
  17. If Barnes is the guy in this bullpen you’re picking on, you’re clueless...
  18. Anyone selling has nothing to lose by waiting for any and all offers. Typically the only way to get a deal done early is to overpay...
  19. Worst umpire ever - Angel Hernandez or Joe West?
  20. I believe you mean Sale, not Price, and 2-1, not 3-1, in game 66...
  21. Whoa!! Slow down!! We aren’t the Orioles here!
  22. Do you think the Dodgers were playing quality baseball en route to losing 32 times in their first 65 games?
  23. Ok, first I need to stop harassing Station via PM to watch more Seagal movies. (Kidding of course. I’m not going to stop.) SECOND, Tyler. Get going here and resume watching and re-watching those movies!! 95 more times!!
  24. One year ago today, the eventual NL Champion Dodgers were 33-32...
