    Maybe part of the problem is the Red Sox players and management also think they’re going to make the playoffs no matter what and think they can coast for a bit and suddenly turn it on. They might be right, but it certainly is putting a lot of questions in our heads...

    BoSox Injection yesterday listed their “5 Players That Could Be Traded” to improve the Red Sox. For those who skipped it, they were: 5. Eduardo Nunez 4. Steve Pearce 3. Tzu-Wei Lin 2. Sam Travis 1. Bobby Dalbec They kind of copped out a lot on Travis and Lin, citing they’d have to be part of a package, which, with no further specifics, applies to everyone in the Sox minor leagues. I think what they need to say is “could be the token exchange piece another team takes back when the Sox agree to a contract they want to get out of.” Otherwise, package with who? The guys listed 2-5 together aren’t that much of a package. Dalbec has a couple reasons to interest other teams. But I don’t expect an overwhelming return, but certainly someone who could contribute better than one of the incumbents...

    And I’m not all that certain DD is interested in Encarnacion. He had a chance to sign him when Encarnacion expressed interest in coming to Boston to replace fellow countryman David Ortiz at DH, which Edwin said would be an honor. Yet DD still passed. I doubt 2 years later DD is willing to give up prospects to get him for the same salary and only for 3 months. And the $20mill salary next year might not be as much of a selling point as the Mariners think, and is certainly a hefty price to pay for the right to offer a QO, which might be accepted by a 37yo DH, since a QO at that age is a likely career ender. The Sox need relief pitching. The Mariners have none...

    If you were GM if the Astros and sitting atop a boatload of prospects, is Moreland the guy you’d target to upgrade at 1b?

    When you give 8 free passes to 1b and 5 of them score, and you lose by 4, how do you blame the defense? “Hey defense!! Stop letting all the free passes score!!”

    Yeah I think the Sale and Bogaerts extensions killed any plans to reset. They’d have to make some near-impossible moves to do it now. Like trading Price...

    Does Houston have any incentive to be involved? They trade Gurriel and get back Moreland and Johnson, which seems like a lateral move at best...

    He’s definitely standing still at the beginning of the shot before Holt crashes into the wall. And the ball does sit at the wall for a long time before he finally ambles back on camera. I don’t think he had a shot at preventing the home run. But I can see why anyone would say he didn’t exactly hustle...

    Even in Little League, you try to teach kids they should be moving on every play, either to the ball or to a position to back someone up. They don’t, of course, because they’re kids. But you do try to instill it in them...

    One thing to consider with Cora’s bullpen management is that he doesn’t have the guns to go to like he did last year. It’s easy to call for a pitcher to be removed from the game, but when your best options right now are Workman and Hembree, it’s easy to forget these were the #5 and #6 options less than a year ago...

    He was absolutely standing still while Holt charged, but that’s not surprising on a ball hit down the RF line. By the time the ball rolled past Holt to the wall, Pence was already around 2b. Even if Mookie went full tilt and ran the 150 feet or so to get the ball and throw it in, he wasn’t going to get the ball back in time for any play on Pence...
