  1. NBA contracts do make MLB contracts look paltry in comparison. Beal has 2 years $56mill left. He’s an terrific (albeit limited) player, but in MLB that makes him among the highest paid in league history. In the NBA, he’s the lower paid in his own back court...
  2. Not a pitching change per season, but adjusting the rotation so Pete Schourek could pitch game 4 of the 1998 ALDS...
  3. And using him is definitely a mixture of brave and crazy...
  4. Yeah I’m blessed. One of the better ones. Like saying syphilis is “one of the better” venereal diseases...
  5. Why not both? I think the word “brazy” could be appropriate here
  6. Have you tried this? https://www.zoomtext.com/products
  7. I think I deserve some credit for last night. While flipping to get to the game, my remote inadvertently got stuck for 5 seconds on “Out For Justice”...
  8. In correct. Smoltz did finish his career in St. Louis, but it was only in the latter part of 2009 after starting out in Boston that year. And Eck finished with the Red Sox. Of course the answer is the Red Sox. It’s a Red Sox message board...
  9. Maybe in the last year of his deal...
  10. Little trivia here - what team did both Eckersley and Smoltz pitch for in the last year of their respective careers?
  11. A jerk? Isn’t he like 3 months old?
  12. There is also a certain value in proximity to MLB. Then might never see AA ball, as many, many don’t. Dalbec has already reached that hurdle...
  13. Edwin Encarnacion was not tied up long term, so that’s ok. My point is, they could have gotten a better prospect(s), but Seattle prioritized not paying money. This has been confirmed in multiple media outlets. (Buster Olney on Twitter and whoever that was Carpin posted a link to.) Even you expected more than a single rookie ball teenager with an FV of 40 that the Mariners already traded away once for a borderline relief arm...
  14. It should be enough to get him some spot start work in the rotation, which is all I’m asking for...
  15. And yet his FV is still only 40. That’s not a bad Future Value, but most teams have 20 or so players with an FV that high or higher...
  16. Maybe not. Dipoto did once trade Then away to acquire the immortal Nick Rumbelow. I don’t think he prized Then much at that time. Certainly the folks at Fangraphs didn’t think Then was much of a prize, describing him as having “middling stuff and physical projection” and assigning him a modest Future Value of 40. The same value is met or exceeded by 22 prospects in the Red Sox farm system, the same system you said the Mariners would “not be interested in spare parts from.” Fangraphs also cites a Buster Olney tweet stating the Mariners dealt EE to the Yankees because the Yankees were willing to absorb more money. Sounds like a straight up salary dump...
  17. No, but I bet most GMs view their declines as potentially coinciding. If Sale still merits a raise with his loftier peak, Porcello is not likely to see such a drastic pay cut. I think Porcello either gets a smaller AAV in the $16-18mill range or sees a slight increase but on a short term deal...
  18. Think they go with just Smart and Brown in the backcourt? Or make any major moves or signings? I do think Ainge keeps Rozier. He has always seemed to like him...
  19. I wouldn’t say Cora “has” to keep 13 pitchers on the roster. In fact, if Nunez, Pearce and Holt are all healthy at once, he can’t unless the Sox demote Chavis...
  20. There was a time when I liked Holt better in the OF, but not so much any more. I will give him that he hustles and goes all out out there, but I’d like the Sox to have a defense-oriented fourth OF. But I know that’s not on the radar for 2019. Not enough room on the roster. Even yesterday’s hero Marco Hernandez might feel the squeeze when everyone is healthy...
  21. Duran might be an illusion but Casas has shown significant improvement...
  22. It would explain why he keeps re-signing Sabathia. We’ll know more of he makes a deadline push for Tommy Hunter...
  23. I’m guessing they dealt him for financial reasons and maybe he’s not more financially viable to them now?
  24. While that appears to be the best guess, I assume the Yankees know something about that. Or maybe they want to see Luke Voit play LF...
  25. I believe he’s actually older than Porcello, and made his MLB debut a year later despite starting his skipping the minors...
