  1. While I agree, the Yankees are also in a different position than the Sox. It’s one thing to stand pat and tell your team “you’re good enough to win it all,” when they’re 7 games up in the standings. It takes on a completely different meaning to say the same thing - even with the exact words - to a team on the outside looking in. Suddenly those same words turn into “ you’re good enough to win it all, so what the f*** is going on here?”
  2. Sale’s contract was after the World Series.
  3. Well, he used bad when a player was getting a lot better. But his simple “line in the sand technique doesn’t ignore Benintendi’s slow start...
  4. I think the Eovaldi/closer thing was largely because Eovaldi couldn’t handle a starter workload and it was never meant to be a permanent solution. The Sox don’t need to determine if Hernandez can be a closer. They need to determine if he can throw strikes. If he keeps walking hitters, he’s more problem than solution...
  5. Which is probably why he should be traded...
  6. He is comparing numbers to last year. Better = good. Worse = bad...
  7. If Mookie is still in Boston (and I suspect he will be), there may not be budget room to do anything about the pitching staff. So, good chance they deal him in July...
  8. If the Sox extend Mookie, they might not be able to fix the pitching next season...
  9. I’m ok with players having off years. But I’m not ok with a GM who does nothing all offseason and then watches the team struggle and decides “ Eh. Maybe they’ll be better tomorrow.” As I’ve said before - I’m ok with trying and failing. But I’m not ok with simply not trying. For all the attacks at Cherington on this board, he never gave us a complete lack of effort like Dombrowski did this year. He may have made questionable moves, but at least he made moves...
  10. I think Dombrowski is going to have enough of a time trying to trade Betts. Much easier to non-tender Bradley. Otherwise he’s going to have to find a way to add 2 starting pitchers and a 2b for something like $12-15mill. That’s not easy if you want to be competitive. And if the Sox aren’t competitive next year, Dombrowski will hopefully be fired by then...
  11. They’re just following the lead of their President/GM...
  12. But the Sox don’t need a reliever!
  13. Actually you don’t know if you can trade him...
  14. It’s not 2018...
  15. Several teams might be making that claim a la the Manfred Missile...
  16. And yet the Yankees will still light up the Sox pitching...
  17. Most players don’t care which team as long as they play and get paid. Sox had the opportunity to play. They just needed to offer to pay...
  18. Not necessarily. If you non-tender him, you can still re-sign him.
  19. He should be happy. He’s been helping a lot of teams...
  20. This team is so reminiscent of the 2012 team. Great on paper but awful on the field. Every now and then, the 2012 Sox would put together a mini streak that gave you some hope, like that Cody Ross series against the White Sox. But then they’d follow it up by floundering hopelessly and making you mad at yourself for thinking they had a chance...
  21. The Sox tried that last year and couldn’t get a return they liked. Next season Bradley will make more money if tendered and have less control. So why would they get a return they like them? Best move is non-tender him and maybe try to sign him back for less. Other teams might be interested, but no one is going after hi for $10-11mill...
  22. Because its more important to have a backup 1b...
