JD Martinez was a victim of stats vs paycheck.
In his first 4 seasons (ages 31-34) in Boston, he hit .270/.377/.476 and was hated by many. At the same ages, Dwight Evans hit .266/.372/.477 and was loved by everyone. You’ll never find 2 major leaguers who put up closer slash lines and played the same position for the same team at the same ages, let alone were received so differently...
Retire? He’s 29!
And got better every year from 2015 through 2018.
But he took one step back, so he has to go? Betts took a step back this year, too. Should he retire?
The following players need to play every day: Marco Hernandez, Sam Travis
Brian Johnson needs to join the rotation.
Might as well see if there’s a future in any of them...
So Springer played through injuries and crushed the Sox, it was detrimental because he was on cortisone or something. But NO RED SOX PLAYERS were playing while getting treatment. That’s his position...
No, time will NEVER prove that, because you will never know “what if?”
DD stopped investing in this team last November. How many players to play for Boston this year were added to this organization between the World Series and the Andrew Cashner Trade?
Sadly, I can only name three...
I don’t think you get much of anything for Price or Moreland and you probably have to pay enough of Price’s deal that it’s not even worth trading him.
I wish the guys in the analytics department would key in on a pitcher or two that’s hit the waiver wire. I bet that you could assemble half of a staff and bullpen from waiver wire claims this year that has outperformed the Sox rotation and pen...
Not really. It’s not like the Front Office did anything.
And the opportunity to sell was never there. Sure we could have bulked up the farm with more Josh Tobias types. Yippy...
Also they should see what Brian Johnson is. Is he worth keeping?
I will say, i am a longtime Johnson detractor, but I am starting to agree with Dojii that he could be as good as Porcello. Maybe not in the way that Dojii meant, but still...
With Sale, this is just one season.
Price feels like he’s been going backwards for a while now. In four seasons in Boston (including 2019), he has posted his three highest ERA’s since 2010. And his two lowest fWAR totals, with 2019 poised to be #3 on that list.
It’s just not working out...
Yeah. Look at it this way. Do you really think Dombrowski would be able to get under-the-radar talent for very replaceable players Porcello or Moreland? The guy’s strength is in dealing away young talent, not in finding it...
