Possible, but then they might want Dalbec to get in some actual time at AAA. There is no rush with him. I actually don't like the idea of bringing up Dalbec to play 1B. He is cheap, and fits the budget. But 1B is typically much easier to fill and if he cannot hit LB pitching or struggles right out of the gate, what then? What if he is hitting .125 on May 1st? He's also one of their better pieces of trade bait, and might be better off being dealt for a 2b..

Lin is a better defensive player. And he is capable of playing more positions, including SS. Plus Marco is no longer an internal option...

If the Sox have the money, another really good external option might be Jonathan Schoop. Last year, he signed a one year deal for $7.5mill. He also played 2B with Bogaerts at SS on the Dutch National team...

Walker is a guy I put into the same category as Danny Salazar. The Sox are coming off a year where SP injuries derailed the season. If your problem is SP injuries, Taijuan Walker is more likely to be part of the problem than part of the solution...

OK. I am surprised, especially given the quality of the Sox middle infield and utility options. But I guess Cherington and Dombrowski thought more of Marco Hernandez than Bloom does, and this looks like a case of the roster spot being more valuable than the player...

Defensive metrics measure accomplishments, not ability, despite what many fans think. Bradley was among the top in innings for CF, but his chances, putouts, etc. were no commensurate with his innings played. Basically, he saw fewer opportunities per inning than a lot of other CF. So the rest got credit for making plays on opportunities while Bradley did not, and therefore his overall metrics suffered. His metrics were not a knock on his ability to play defense...

Myers was weak offensively last year, but it was his first year in San Diego with an OPS+ below 109. If he gets back to that level, he would basically be like Mitch Moreland (OPS+ 112, OPS: 835) last year for the Sox. His fWAR is always pretty low, but that is because he is a lousy outfielder, at least in CF and RF, where San Diego played him for reasons no one will ever understand. The Sox could move him to 1B and ignore his OF defense...

It was. But the remaining Sox roster was not all that impressive. If the Sox move Martinez - and to whom - I don't expect much beyond a middling prospect and some financial relief. Then the Sox have to get someone to replace his bat, and Travis Shaw isn't going to cut it...

Myers is expensive for the rest of his deal, but in terms of Average Annual Value, it's only valued at about $13mill. So moving Price for him would reduce the Sox payroll towards the luxury tax by nearly $18mill. This isn't so much about saving money as it is getting below the limit governed by the AAV of the contracts...

A Price-Myers trade makes so much sense for both teams, if it was going to happen it probably already should have. I do wonder if the cost of replacing Price is a bigger factor than we realize...

I ran this through the simulator at baseballtradevalues.com, but without the money since it can only handle increments of $1 million. It basically says the Mets are getting screwed here and the Yankees are making out like bandits (and remember, that is before the money was added). It was an equal trade for the Brewers, at least in terms of surplus value. Now, they might have different feeling about using their best trade asset to get some "insurance" for two holes they are filling and prefer to just fill another hole. Per BTV, the Yankees are acquiring $89mill in surplus value while only giving up $45mill. The Mets are acquiring $62mill in surplus value while giving up $104mill. You might be underestimating what it will take to get Syndergaard, who on his own is worth an estimated $75.7mill in surplus value. And then there is the whole question of why the Mets would acquire an asset like Hader, who represents an immediate fix, and the go and deal an asset like Syndergaard, which makes it much more difficult to take advantage of immediate fixes. This is the kind of thing simple trade values cannot catch, but the logic is counter-intuitive for the Mets. Especially since this team is trying to win and already lost Zack Wheeler in the rotation. Losing Syndergaard just makes their whole season taht much more difficult This trade does become a lot more equal in terms of trade value if the Yankees are willing to take back the contracts of Cespedes and Familia, but that doesn't solve the logic problem for the Mets. It also works out even better if the Yankees just take Syndergaard and Cespedes and let the Mets keep Diaz, and have their power combo to close out games, assuming they have any starters left capable of giving them a lead. That trade was accepted by the simulator. Or if the Yankees don't want Cespedes (they don't), they could also give up Deivi Garcia and either Tauchman or Antonio Cabello to the Mets, although neither really fills their immediate need for a CF...
