  1. You do a little math and then add in the money where it says to. Not exactly rocket surgery...
  2. Red Sox don’t need a shortstop.
  3. But with Harris, these are the things he was known for. Taking the T from Cleveland Circle. Having an ambidextrous glove. Not for being picked up off the scrap heap after the Phillies DFAd him and the Sox hoped to make him a middle reliever (which he excelled at). And then injuries found him filling in in the rotation where he turned into a good SP who made 30 starts that first season. I’d say his contributions were pretty under the radar...
  4. The infamous simulator says a package of Hunter Greene, Jesse Winker, Robert Stephenson and Jose de Leon (whom Bloom once acquired for Tampa) is an acceptable offer for Betts...
  5. He used to take the green line to games...
  6. That would be Greg Harris, whose fame from his on-field accomplishments was less than his fame from his freakish glove or the fame from his chosen commute...
  7. Or Odubel Herrera?
  8. Whether or not the minor league system will be overhauled or the current CBA will expire really are not reasons to avoid the current reset plans. Everyone in the Sox organization is aware of these facts and is still insisting on resetting. There’s a chance the Sox front office either knows more than Elk about these circumstances, or has an indication that future penalties could be harsher. Or simply that Henry wants to spend less while winning (and complaining about that seems selfish and superficial). Either way, it does appear the reset is in motion, and moving as much of Price’s contract is priority one..,
  9. Are you sure of that?
  10. Even if farm systems get knocked down to two teams, they’re still important, especially to those small market teams. But that doesn’t mean Boston won’t need one. No one cares if the Sox can’t sign the next Gorkys Hernandez or cannot find a place for yet another Andy Yount of John Curtiice. The Sox still want their younger players to play and get better and hopefully step in. Having fewer farm teams actually makes the farm more important, because you have to be right about who you accept to play there...
  11. The Sox wouldn’t have won in 2018 if the farm wasn’t strong enough to acquire Sale and Kimbrel...
  12. Sox fans have always hyped and overhyped their prospects. Fans do care about the farm when they don’t have one. Just because YOU don’t care about it does not mean you get to speak for everyone...
  13. So what re you basing that Peraza comment on? And I think in the Gio vs Perez sitaution, I think Bloom mught be using different criteria. Probably a good thing, because Gio Gonzalez is about as up and down as it gets...
  14. The Yankees will pay him one way or another. But really this whole "not our doctor" things feels like desperation from a fan of a team that watched Pablo Sandoval just completely give up. At least Ellsbury was trying to get better, but now the Yankees are searching for technicalities rather thn just up to their deal and sknowledge that they signed the guy through age 37. We all knew he wouldn't be good through that age anyway...
  15. If you told me that in August, I don’t think I would have been too surprised. Their offseasons have puttered along at a glacial pace lately. And when you can’t add money, you have to wait for someone to help you subtract...
  16. Reset or not, the Sox are clearly not adding payroll...
  17. As Kennedy said. But it’s also why the Sox didn’t go after Cole and Rendon. Exactly what do you think Bloom should be doing, besides getting Ramirez and Ortiz?
  18. So you want him to trade Betts for the underwhelming offers he has received so far? Still December. Season doesn’t start for a full quarter of a year...
  19. Other than jacko, no one has suggested they won’t be competitive. Unless you’re one of those who believes spending heavily is the only way to compete...
  20. It turns out getting people to take Price off his hands might be a shorter line than you expect. Also, yes the luxury tax bill was less than they paid Rusney Castillo last year, but apparently the penalties for exceeding again this year total up to a loss of approximately $100 mill. This has been written in multiple sources, none of whom work for the Red Sox...
  21. No one says he can’t, but what we’ve learned is he doesn’t want to...
  22. He doesn’t have the payroll to add Manny and Ortiz. What should he be doing?
  23. Not necessarily. I think they’d take on Price in that dea. Myers is the 5th outfielder on their depth chart and his contract leaps from $5 mill to $22.5 mill this year. If he was any good, they might want to move him but since he isn’t, the only way they move his 3 years $67.5 mill is either pay a huge chunk or take on another albatross. Myers is one of the most sunk costs in MLB. If they get a 2-2.5 fWAR pitcher for a net cost of $9.5mill per year, they might find it amenable. The big stumbling block here is likely that Myers sucks. I agree they won’t want Bradley. Franchy Cordero appears to be the starting CF with Margot slated for 4th OF/weakside platoon. They might not mind including Margot, but not to take back Bradley...
  24. I suggested a trade once with the framework of Herrera and Dave Robertson for Price. The Sox get a CF and good RP coming off an injury-plagued season and save $17mill in AAV with potential to reach $28mill in AAV once they deal Bradley. If they deal Bradley and Price for the same pair, it happens all at once. But Philly winds up taking on in excess of $80mill and might not be so accommodating...
