  1. I don’t think you’re going to see a rebuild. If the Sox wanted to rebuild, they would be trading Sale and Bogaerts. Those two might actually bring something back. Instead we’re seeing players on the block like Price and Bradley where the case seems to be more about paring down salary...
  2. I hadn’t read that yet...
  3. I don’t see the Dodgers adding two worthwhile major league arms for one $30 mill season of Betts...
  4. Probably. There is an old saying in Tarheel Folklore, dating back a couple centuries - “Anyone who would buy his wife a cow for her anniversary present should also provide AC to his horses’ stables.” The meaning is probably somewhat vague and possibly outdated, but it might apply here...
  5. The only good thing about Price’s contract is the length. $32mill is still a lot of money to some people. The big problem with Eovaldi’s contract is it is attached to an arm that just can’t stay healthy...
  6. That promo code might take you to a whole different website...
  7. If the Sox do need an outfielder on a budget, Corey Dickerson always seems to be the forgotten man when this time of year comes, yet he has always been surprisingly productive. How many other players have been non-tendered in a season after they played in the All Star game? Offer Dickerson two years (at any money) and you might overwhelm him...
  8. To be fair, there is a difference between predicting a move is imminent and wishing Bloom would just do anything...
  9. I would rather have Maeda than Joc. But I don’t think Mookie Betts and his projected salary and one year of control will get as much as many fans think. I would hope Bloom would ask for Urias and Maeda, but his former boss Friedman would say “I’ll give you either one and you can either throw in some cash or take a contract back.” In that case, I take Urias and Pederson. But this is not the top target; this is worst case scenario. Anything less, no deal. And even with this offer, I still would shop around to their teams for a better one. If Bloom can talk the Dodgers into also including another prospect like Ruiz or Gray or Downs, even better...
  10. To me, the smart plan os to offload Price and Bradley and then wait on Betts. But we shall see...
  11. I don't think the Sox are going to "rebuild" and I don't think they're going to get extensive pieces for the right to pay Mookie Betts $30mill for one season. I think the reset is more important than the rebuild. Does it help that Pederson has a 1.212 OPS vs Gerrit Cole?
  12. I think it takes a special type of man to look at a cow and think "I wonder if my wife wants one." This is not a gamble I would take, even if I could afford it. But these are North Carolina country farmfolk flush with cash that we're talking about.. Also, apparently one reason he signed with the Diamondbacks was that he already keeps his horses in the Phoenix area and apparently loves it there. Which is why the money was less than anticipated and why it would have taken more (possibly a lot more) to get him to go to Boston...
  13. Pederson has 375 career plate appearances vs LHP spread out over 6 seasons. The most he had in one year is 129 back in 2015, his first full season in the majors. Also his .691 OPS vs lefties that year was his best performance in that split. The Dodgers basically stopped letting him hit LHP at that point. While they probably saw something they didn't like, they also severely hampered any chances he had to make any adjustments. Would regular paying time vs LHP help? No one will know until they try. But if he ever brings his split back up to .691, it certainly doesn't make him a lineup weakness...
  14. But is there any demand?
  15. Or maybe no other agent will pay any attention to the Bumgarner deal and try to get their clients offers in line with everyone else!?
  16. Has there been much news about Bradley?
  17. He doesn’t, but Urias does. Possibly immensely. Pederson offsets a little cash, like Pollock does in your scenario.,
  18. I think you put too much effort into trying to discredit this one source...
  19. I’d prefer Urias and Pederson...
  20. While Seager is certainly an intriguing name, the Sox have a glut of infielders and no real outfield talent beyond Benintendi-Bradley-Betts...
  21. Per Rotoworld, the Dodgers are talking to Bloom about Betts, but apparently Mookie is Plan B if they can’t work out a deal for Lindor,...
  22. Hinske also played in 3 straight World Series with 3 different teams. That’s gotta be a short list...
  23. And yet he still put together a playoff team there, and for very little money. I doubt he considers our opinions as opposed to his own judgement that enabled him to land the job in the first place amd has enabled him to build winning teams before. There is a saying among sports professionals - "Don't listen to the fans, or you'll wind up sitting in the stands with them."
  24. Agreed. If both start slow or get injured, not only does it hamper the Sox chances this year, it also means they won't achieve any reset goals. Which in turn could mean the Sox are not players for Betts after this year...
  25. McDonald was definitely about as under-the-radar as it gets, but he was more of a pleasant surprise than an actual significant contributor. Sort of the quieter version of Pedro Ciriaco. Doug Fister was actually a really good pitcher for the Sox who came out of nowhere...
