  1. Focusing on one year is why the Sox no longer have Wade Miley...
  2. I was just referencing the discussion when Barry Bonds was crushing everything and also drawing a record number of IBB’s and a lot of talking heads thought the game needed to ban the IBB because paying fans didn’t want to see Bonds walk so much...
  3. I’m all for the Nats the rest of the way...
  4. Or making the intentional walk illegal just because teams were afraid to pitch to a steroid-laden monster who was destroying all the home run records...
  5. Roberts got all the glory, but Millar started the whole rally with a walk. If not for Millar, Roberts had no one to pinch run for...
  6. Players do it all the time. The idea is to get a much bigger contract one year later. The bigger question is - why would a pitcher do it in Boston? Go to San Diego or Oakland...
  7. Kennedy admitted they are not...
  8. I hate the shift, but it’s here until lefties stop playing launch ball and start going the other way...
  9. Anda professional comparison thing. If you think you're a better player than a guy making $6 million, you're not as likely to sign for $5million...
  10. Yeah but it's all about the budget and if they can get under the tax limit...
  11. Are you counting Brian Johnson starts as bullpen games?
  12. Bullpen games are like using a platoon for a position. It's something low budget teams do because they cannot afford the one good player who can do the job...
  13. I'm taking the over...
  14. But at one point, many of the old school stats were new analytics. No one was keeping track of ERA in the 1890'. Pitchers were just evaluated by W-L. But then that changed with this weird new stat that involved 2 decimal places and required math. Think that was just embraced right away? And slugging percentage took over 40 years to be recognized as an official stat. My baseball cards growing up didn't have it on there...
  15. It's really a curse, And oddly, I usually get called that for asking questions, not pointing anything out or presenting actual counter-information...
  16. But he had a higher role than that. He replaced Lucchino and took a significant chunk of the GM dutues from Hazen. Either way, the consolidation of the President of Baseball Ops and GM into one role started with him, not Epstein...
  17. What percentage do you think are driven by stats now?
  18. That puts them in the same boat as everyone else in MLB. Baseball teams have always been driven by statistics. The stats they use might change, but the use of them is omnipresent throughout history. This goes for other sports as well. Follow the NBA lately? Or the NFL?
  19. Stat geeks never say that can never be wrong. Just because someone counters an observation with statistical evidence is only an discussion ender if you stop discussing the point. I get labeled as one of those know-it-all stat geeks despite that I actually rarely quote statistics.
  20. That really didn't happen until Dombrowski came along. Don't forget - Dombrowski didn't replace Cherington; he replaced Lucchino. In fact, in Dombrowski's first full year, he had a GM in the oft-forgotten (at least by me) Mike Hazen...
  21. The Dodgers are repeatedly knocking on the door but can't seem to get that elusive title. Do they want to wait and hope Kershaw is good for two more years or strike now? They traded for a half season of Machado despite knowing he was not going to sign. At least a trade for Betts in the offseason gets them a draft pick. If Betts is traded, I would say the Dodgers, along with the Phillies and Braves, are one of the most likely landing spots. The Mets, Reds, and Padres are probably not unrealisitic either.
  22. Yes. In most cases, the window is 72 hours...
  23. Too muich turnover in President of Baseball Ops? We've had 2 of them in the past 19 years...
  24. Eh. I get it. I’ve left jobs solely to get more money...
