  1. Legally, yes. But I would think most HMs would just assume see if he gets non-tendered. Remember when the Red Sox traded Hatteberg to the Rockies for Pokey Reese, and then two days later both players were non-tendered?
  2. Dealing either Price or Eovaldi would be incredible - preferably Price. If Texas was offering Choo and Odor or San Diego would take him even up for Myers, I make that deal so fast, I’d cause a sonic boom...
  3. Trade him? Yes, his arbitration status stays the same. Non-tender him and he is a free agent able to negotiate with anyone. Bradley’s best chance at returning is if he is non-tendered and re-signs for less. And this does happen every year...
  4. I disagree. Benintendi is an option for CF. Just not a good option....
  5. Unless JD signs for a lower AAV
  6. Despite having the same parades and flags as second place finishes...
  7. I find it weird that many of the same people who praise DD for winning one title refuse to praise Cherington for winning one title...
  8. Actually I called out complaints and gripes as stupid and idiotic, but not people. There is a big difference. And in many eyes - sarcastically mocking someone else’s idea or complaint is the same as calling it stupid. Avoiding using the word doesn’t always mean avoiding the meaning. This does ignore the fact that Bush himself was an external candidate. His background is so different from LaVangie that equating them simply because they were both employed in the same organization is flat out silly. I never mentioned DDs termination. Again with the sarcasm. But I suppose you can avoid direct insults and convince yourself you’re actually polite. The bottom line is this - having a good pipeline of dirt cheap MLB talent coming up makes it easier to retain top talent, acquire new talent, and keep the team competitive. That last one is most important because, as fans, all we can ask is they be interesting enough to be watchable. Titles are nice, but there is also absolutely luck involved. And if you were a Sox fan in 1978, you understand that. Or in 1975. Those teams weren’t significantly worse than the 2018 team. But they didn’t win. The 1978 team had four Hall of Famers on it, which I think is the most of any Sox team ever. They didn’t win. Going all in for a title is a risky adventure, because if it fails - like it did in Detroit - it can be a long time before the team is watchable again. But hey, you can always watch that flag fly. And sigh and remember when...
  9. Earth to Elktonnick. It’s really great that you like to call out other people’s gripes as stupid. But to do so on the heels of your own idiotic complaint that Bush was the wrong hire simply because he was already within the Sox organization is not the way to make yourself look intelligent in the process. But it’s good to see that you’re clearly happy with the current state of the Sox roster and budgetary limits and have no issue waving goodbye to Betts....
  10. It is certainly possible for the Red Sox to sign Bradley for less. But they still have to make the best offer of any team...
  11. But don’t forget - the $63mill JD walks away from counts against Boras’ new earnings. So if JD’s new deal is for under $60mill, he effectively loses money. The smart move for Boras (and Martinez) would be to wait one more year to opt out...
  12. Actually she disliked Dombrowski’s history of tearing down farm systems for short term gain and long term question marks. And that’s a much more legitimate complaint than you have about Bush...
  13. And it was the least surprising thing Price ever did....
  14. Does he have to say anything if he is?
  15. By Monday, right? If JD was as sure about this as most of you, he would have opted out already...
  16. So what exactly is a crapshoot? Because a difference of 5 successful title runs over a full century sure seems like one to me...
  17. Backup catcher isn’t a dire need, but maybe changing up from Sandy Leon is...
  18. And Braves declined the option on Billy Hamilton...
  19. The Sox don’t need infielders. A starter, a reliever or two, a backup catcher and probably at least one outfielder...
  20. I mean, one season of fWAR? Ryu has pitched 400 innings in the past 5 years. That’s a big, big factor...
  21. I doubt Quintana will be a free agent at that price. Trade bait? Maybe, but not a free agent. Porcello has a massive advantage over Wheeler and Ryu, who are injured so often their Topps baseball cards list their position as “DL.” So Porcello or Odirizzi as next in line behind the top three of Strasburg, MadBum or Cole?
  22. Plus he’s probably one of the five best starting pitchers on the market and only turns 31 in a couple months...
  23. No. As Phil Rizzuto has been dead for over a decade, he finds himself unable to sign the contract...
  24. Fairly certain the Red Sox did hire Mike Hazen at one point...
  25. Even if they had that discussion, Bronson Arroyo’s agent likely did as well...
