  1. Maybe other ownerships were less involved and gave him more autonomy...
  2. I think it’s very possible Mata makes his debut in the 2020 season, but hopefully not until July at the earliest. I see Dalbec as either trade bait or taking over 3b with Devers moving to 1b. A big part of Dalbec’s game is his defense at 3b, which will be a positive contribution even if he struggles offensively. I doubt Chatham is on the radar. The Sox already have Marco Hernandez and Tzu-Wei Lin, both of whom are capable and more experienced utility players, and Chatham doesn’t need to be added to the 40 man roster yet Duran doesn’t need to be added to the 40 man roster, either. And has only been playing outfield for one year. While the Sox are likely to need outfielders, I’m not sure Duran is a candidate yet. Or if he is ahead of Marcus Wilson, who has more outfield experience. I don’t like Dalbec (again, good defense wasted at DH) or Moreland for a DH role. The aging Encarnacion might be a good short term DH, and has always expressed a desire to come to Boston and succeed fellow countryman Ortiz at DH. He might even come at relative bargain price...
  3. Her love of the name Scooter Gennett should in no way be construed as support of Scooter Libby. That’s my best guess as what you could possibly mean here...
  4. So if JD does not opt out, should the Red Sox trade him?
  5. I might argue Duquette left the Red Sox with a “great farm.” Prior to his last season in 2001, the top prospects were Brad Baker (BA #76), the late Dernell Stenson (BA #77), and Tony Blanco (BA #87). After that season, the farm was headlined by Seung Song (BA #60) and Tony Blanco (BA #93). Only Hanley Ramirez (BA #19 in 2003) remained among Duquette prospects to make a significant impact in the majors. After he left, the Sox added players like Jon Lester and Anibal Sanchez who became much better major leaguers...
  6. Because there is an additional adjustment for the player’s position. A left fielder with 2 dWAR is not the same as a centerfielder with 2 dWAR...
  7. Only if the Sox play him in one of the months he’s actually hitting...
  8. My thoughts are, not like I have idea when these guys should be promoted anyway.
  9. I’d be interested, although I would wonder what Texas would hope to get Price for. Moving Price, as insanely difficult as it would be, would make for a successful offseason. But if Texas would take Eovaldi/Bradley for Odor/Mazara, Boston should do it today!!
  10. I’m not so sure Moustakas is low cost. If he was, Milwaukee would he retaining him. Zobrist is 38 or 39 or more. He might retire. Possibly involuntarily. I could see Gennett or Dozier or the massively underrated Gyorko on Bloom’s radar. Gyorko might even be a 1b option...
  11. First of all, I have to award a couple points for not falling for some of my blatantly sarcastic answers. But as they were blatant, I cannot award maximum points. The bottom line is we both called each other’s ideas idiotic. I was blunt. You were sarcastic. Same message, which is what is important. Now if you are answering me from England, that’s one thing. But otherwise if you’re in the USA, using the excuses that it’s acceptable in other cultures and that’s a big difference is a weak defense to separate. When you burp and fart at the dinner table, do you tell your family “What?! It’s good manners in Japan!” Or do you just excuse yourself like the rest of us?
  12. His follow up deal of trading Melancon for Hanrahan and Holt certainly yielded positive results. Not from Hanrahan, however...
  13. Yes because Choo has only one year left...
  14. And do they ultimately use it to send the message that the opposition is being idiotic?
  15. And we all know they’re using sarcasm to be complimentary of each other as well...
  16. Right. Let me live in your world where sarcasm counts as a compliment...
  17. If the Sox traded Eovaldi for Choo and Odor and then traded Price for Myers, it would reduce the AAV payroll by about $7mill, but the Sox would need to acquire THREE starting pitchers, which is very likely to exceed $7mill. Even if JD opted out and was replaced by Choo, what is the quality of three SPs that can be had for $28mill in AAV?
  18. The Mariners will likely try Jake Fraley in CF, which is why Broxton was not retained. Domingo Santana might be available to Boston as an OF as well, as the Sox could lose Betts and Bradley...
  19. Broxton is another option I like. The Sox should bring him in as a fourth OF at the very least..,
  20. Also that Cla Meredith/Doug Mirabelli disaster...
  21. I think it’s on the table. Despite the back issues and defensive limitations, the man is a productive hitter and his presence makes this lineup better. And if he does opt out and sign elsewhere, the Sox are still going to need a DH. And saving that much money to use some internal option like Ockimey is NOT going to yield results in any acceptable neighborhood...
  22. Despite my being an excellent CF by middle aged engineer standards, I think just calling me “not good” is an extreme form of understatement... I think the Sox will bring in someone like Lagares or (ugh) Billy Hamilton, at least as a stopgap...
  23. Arroyo for Wily Mo Pena
  24. They could end. But that feels like wishful thinking...
  25. Calling someone’s idea as idiotic is not the same as calling someone idiotic. After all, the purpose of your sarcasm was to call the ideas of others as idiotic. I’ve been on the backend of that exact criticism when I use sarcasm. As said earlier - can dish it out, but not take it...
