  1. I think the Sox want a competitive team, just one that costs less than $208million. That’s hardly impossible...
  2. Bring back leeches!! No player receiving the Leech Treatment for bad blood ever missed additional time!!
  3. Kevin Pillar, if the Giants decline his option...
  4. JBJ batted 8th or 9th. If the Sox get another CF who doesn’t hit but bats 8th or 9th, I’m fine with it. The only issue with JBJ next year for the Sox is likely just his salary...
  5. The Rays also got Trevor Richards in that deal, who looked outstanding last spring and carried it over into the regular season. And gave up a top 30 prospect. I’m not so sure Anderson was anything more than a 28yo journeyman rookie having a career year only to be never heard from again. The problem teams face with the bullpen is that they still use it as a dumping ground for pitchers not good enough for the rotation. But in this day, relievers handle nearly 50% of the IP. It makes sense to me to keep a young pitcher like Darwinzon Hernandez in a role where he will have a higher percentage of high leverage IP than one based solely on volume of IP...
  6. So the Padres take on a net of over $40mill in salary and that somehow maximizes the prospect return? Over just trading Betts? I would deal Price for Myers and perhaps try to extend the deal for some of the Padres 40 man roster crunch prospects for some of Boston’s not needing protection. But deal Betts seperately...
  7. For the record, Price is owed $96mill over the next 3 years, not $66mill.. It's worth it for the $17mill savings towards the luxury tax...
  8. It does make sense. Granted, Ellsbury is viewed as a traitor for refusing to sign with Boston and then going to NYY, but the reality is he was just a guy that we all cheered for for 6 seasons who simply refused extensions because he was deadset on testing free agency. Sound like anyone else?
  9. Yankees need SP. Red Sox will need outfielders. Price for Ellsbury anyone?
  10. There are almost no outfielders in the Sox farm system period. Yet the Sox are likely to trade Betts, non-tender Bradley, and might see JDM opt out. And people still want to trade Benintendi!! If all of that happens, I strongly suggest a groundball pitching staff...
  11. There will be no wrong offers for Cole, who will not be in Boston next year under any circumstances. My prediction - Angels...
  12. That same website had Price having roughly the same value as Wil Myers, which might be a deal that makes sense for both teams under certain conditions...
  13. And yet here we are...
  14. It is entirely possible that DD’s plans as implemented were a different interpretation of what was agreed upon. Or, it’s like any other job. You’re boss might trust your judgment about what will work, but that doesn’t exonerate you if it fails...
  15. Maybe he approved of the extension for a healthy Sale, but felt DD ignored some very alarming arm issues before actually signing him..
  16. No it wouldn’t.
  17. I take it you've been watching "The Godfather" a lot lately...
  18. Like who? Last time he was a free agent, he was 29 years old and coming off a season with a 1.066 OPS, which was carried by a .690 SLG (you know, the more exciting part of OPS), and interest was still pretty minimal. Now he’s two years older and coming off worse seasons and had minor back issues that likely limit him to DH, and plenty of teams will be interested? Opt out or not, JD will be in Boston next year...
  19. More like Chaim Doom if you ask me!
  20. What’s he even doing?!?!
  21. But that’s practically verbatim what was said about Dan Duquette when the Sox hired him. Sometimes these low budget guys act a little different when they have access to actual money...
  22. And a trade of Betts might yield a lot more than Larry Anderson...
  23. Also not panicking about Benintendi here. His failure to become Christian Yeilich overnight is the least of the Sox problems...
  24. I don't know how we can draw that conclusion as Bloom has no history of doing anything either way. This isn't like hiring Dombrowski, who had a well-documented history of spending money, trading prospects, and going all in every year...
  25. Apparently it’s closer than I realized... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/10/chaim-bloom-interviewed-for-red-sox-gm-position.html
