  1. I’m with Slasher on this. Just get rid of hand signals. The more I look into it, the more I find out that they all have the same origin, going from coaching signs to umpire signs to catcher signals. They were initially all implemented to accommodate deaf players. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, MLB has a rare moment where it should be proud of the way it accommodated, and did so long before anyone else. But this peculiar origin does make the use of hand signals as a tradition feel a little less important...
  2. But being accountable and being the ringleader are two different things.
  3. Don’t need to if he clears waivers...
  4. The initial Astros report did. But was he also involved in the Sox scandal? If so it seems odd he would champion a less effective (only good with a runner on 2nd) method that was not usable during the post-season, especially since at the time he got away with the method in Houston...
  5. I like Cozart. I do agree he is a good option.
  6. I think the scandal fits, just not in the "harmonious protection" aspect. If DD was fired to save him from this stigma as a favor from Henry for years of service, why was he trashed on his way out the door? Now, Red Sox Tradition might be a acceptable answer here. But beyond that, that part didn't fit...
  7. Not fitting. Henry didn’t “fire” Dombrowski to get ahead of this scandal and preserve the name of a longtime associate and then follow up by planting numerous stories in the media that Dombrowski was difficult to work with and fired due to his attitude. Now it might be more plausible that Dombrowski spent too much, ruined the farm/future, and was difficult to work with. But this was tolerated because the team was winning, and had a recent title. But once the team stopped winning and it was revealed that the one title the Sox did get was due to cheating, it was too much...
  8. Before I go and google around for some dates, what is it about the timing you find significant?
  9. So... the Sox are paralyzed due to pending disciplinary action on Cora, but the Astros - the team with no GM and no manager - are ready to make moves?
  10. Not to mention, he was never much of an enticement anyway. The Giants took on Zack Cozart’s contract to get first rounder Will Wilson. Cozart makes about 2/3 of what Happ makes. Translation - it’s going to take an actual good prospect to get a team interested in Happ. Guys like Tarpley and Cessa won’t work. It might take someone more like Estevan Flovial, Everson Pereira or Clarke Schmidt...
  11. But he decided to let Cora stick around to face the music?
  12. It’s still unexplsined if you like. At best this is a theory. After all, building a $240mill team that finishes 3 games over .500 is not exactly going to net someone any type of job security...
  13. But not in the postseason
  14. The Astros are being so thorough about this, they’ve even bought a new trash can...
  15. The Astros at least had the decency to see what Hinch’s punishment was before firing him. So far Cora hasn’t even been established as guilty...
  16. My bad. Wrong post. I was responding to Dr. Jacko Hackenbush...
  17. Clearly you’ve never been to a Yankee board. The anti-trolling patrols are so thorough and strict, anything short of pinstriped fellatio results in an immediate ban. Anyone with an honest, realistic and blunt outlook on the Yankees would be banned before they could click on the “Post” button the first time...
  18. So... Eovaldi it is...
  19. Wow. Not even punished yet and already telling us how bad it will be. I hope you don’t treat your patients like that. “The last guy had rabies. You’re going to HATE the shots!”
  20. Cora stands a chance to be implicated in both scandals. Think this affects his punishment?
  21. I can just picture the defense argument. "Technology? We were banging a garbage can!!"
  22. There was that whole incident when Kershaw called out publicly for the removal of one cancerous player. Scott Van Slyke admitted on a coupe radio shows that Puig was the player. I think this lead to the bizarre minor league demotion and subsequent off field party bus stories. There was even a time in 2014, where, of all people, Hanley Ramirez (according to Jeff Passan) took Puig aside and told him "Don't make the same mistakes I made." He can be a colorful one...
  23. I think Wagner might be a longer shot than Jones...
  24. But when these writers make the arguments for best CF of all time, they always start by rambling off offensive stats. Occasioanly some defensive matter gets brought up as a complete afterthought. But when you have 600 career home runs or a 56 game hitting streak under your belt, you could go out to CF and the only time you actually use your glove is to challenge the corner outfielders to duels, and you're still considered one of the best of all time...
