  1. You might not be able to. That's Kevin Gausman pricing...
  2. Depends on who they deal. Won’t get them for Price and/or Eovaldi...
  3. And you will have less international money to spend on those free agents, like he said. And stop with the "we didn't trade vets for prospects." Where did Clint Frazier and Gleyber Torres come from?
  4. We faced Cole once last year. He pitched well, but also got outpitched by Rick Porcello....
  5. Ok.
  6. The Sox would stand a better chance resurrecting Lou Gehrig and signing his zombie corpse to play 1b...
  7. If I am right about Archer's AAV, is it a bad deal? Also, while I do think Groome is probably only one of maybe two or three pitchers in the Sox system that have a chance to be worth anything, right now the guy looks like a left-handed Anderson Espinoza. And if the Sox cannot sign a pitcher, they will have to trade for one. (Or - 32 starts from Hector Velasquez and Mike Shawaryn!!! Yeah!!) So who do you recommend be the trade bait? (Dalbec is actually a good answer, although not sure what he gets you back.)
  8. It doesn't take much to get to the cliff. The Sox farm system in 2015 was the best in the majors, or very close to it. Two years and three trades later, there wasn't much left. The thing about a good farm system is it really only probably has 5 or 6 actual MLB players in it at any given time. That's really all you need to have a great farm - a handful of players who will make MLB. Of course, it's not as easy as many think to know who those players are...
  9. I believe his AAV is only $4mill, but his salary is $9mill.
  10. In Bloom’s future, I see a phone call to Ben Cherington about the availability of Chris Archer (who is available, as Cherington has publicly said everyone is). And Cherington saying “So you replaced Dombrowski? Good. Guy wanted me to stay on but took all my responsibilities. Took me forever to get another GM job. I spent the last 3 years in Toronto filling coffee orders. Tell you what? Make me a reasonable offer.” And that, boys and girls, was how Jay Groome became a Pirate...
  11. It would lower the Sox AAV commitment towards the Luxury tax by $10mill. The biggest problem with Upton is where to play him. Martinez has DH. That leaves the Sox with the questionable outfield alignment of Upton-Benintendi-Betts. Moving Betts to CF would be ok, but either of Upton or Benintendi is not a good fit for RF. But I do think his swing would play at Fenway...
  12. It appears that way. Price is the bigger contract, and many also think is the bigger a-hole, so I see the appeal. But Price will also be more difficult to replace, because, while overpaid, he is still pretty good. And despite recent injuries, is still the more durable of the two.,.
  13. Or take back another lesser contract? There are plenty of players with bad cotnracts I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox acquire in a Price deal. Although some have one year left on their contracts, which makes it very easy to take them on. (Dee Gordon headlining this list.)
  14. They were in on him, yes. My question is - are any of them still interested? I'm not so sure if its recency or that he makes $17mill, which was clearly a number that caused some to shy away last year...
  15. Yes, but the chances of that dream coming true are roughly equal to the chances of me flapping my arms and flying to the moon. The best chance the Yankees have is if Stanton decides to ignore his agent and opt out after this year. And, much like with Price, it's not likely to happen. Especially if the Yankees win the World Series. I would say this was both a good day and a bad day for the Yankees and their fans...
  16. I agree. Letting Sanchez walk is an easy decision. But in a couple years, when the Yankees are paying close to $90-100 mill to Cole, Stanton, Judge, and Torres (plus another $21mill to Severino and Hicks), building the rest of a competitive team around them will be very difficult. Stanton can opt out after this season, but he will be 30 years old (when free agency stops being kind) and walking away from 8 years / $212 million. And he won't get either of those numbers as a free agent, especially since he has only topped 4.3 fWAR one time since 2014. Even if he wants to opt out, his agent will absolutely advise against it. And he did not hire his agent to ignore his advice...
  17. I'd be surprised if he had 5 years left in that arm, especially at that velocity as a starter. Cole turns 30 next season and averaged 97.2mph on his fastball last year. Since 2000, no starting pitcher age 30 or older has averaged 97mph on his fastball for a full season. None. Jake deGrom, at ages 30 and 31, is the only SP to top 96mph. Only 4 other pitchers topped 95, although Justin Verlander and Charlie Morton both did it twice. (Paxton last year and AJ Burnett in 2007 were the others.) The velocity will go down, possibly even next season. And when that happens, Jacko himself insists that Red Sox pitchers who lose velocity will need to take a season or two to re-invent themselves. I assume he thinks that will apply to Yankee pitchers as well. Actually I don't...
  18. Or taking back a questionable contract. Or, apparently, trading with the Giants, who seem to like collecting bad contracts...
  19. Oh no!! They're the favorites!! There is no point in even playing the season now. I say we cancel the Winter Meetings and just have the parade. Or ... we can accept the fact that being favorites plus $9.50 can get you a Cafe Americana Mocha Frappiano Panceta RalphMacchio Late at Starbucks with the name "Jar Jar Binks" written on the side of the cup.
  20. Do blind squirrels ever really find nuts? Seems to me they find the underside of tires more often...
  21. Harper was also 26 at the time of his deal. Betts will only be 28, but do not discount the importance of age in Harper's contract. Or ask Jason Heyward if it was a factor...
  22. They'll just cut the dental plan again and start charging $350 hot for a hot dog...
  23. Was that recency? Or some weird fascination Dombrowski had with Eovaldi? He did trade for him in the first place. And history has shown, Dombrowski has a serious love affair with radar gun readings, which is one thing Eovaldi excels at, and probably the root of a lot of his physical problems...
  24. Ir's fun watching you convince yourself Cole isn't going to be an albatross. I know listed heights and weights aren't necessarily reality, but the fact that Price is listed as 1" taller and 4 pounds lighter does mean the two are closer in size than you seem to want to admit...
