No doubt each side i waiting the other out. There are not lines forming to take either of these players. For all the reported activity on Price, no one has mentioned the offers, probably because nothing was realistic for one side or for both. In the end, there is a lot that makes sense for both teams here. But Boston also gets stuck paying a largely ineffective Wil Myers $67.5 millio over 3 years. That has to be a factor that they are not happy with. Who would be? We know San Diego certainly isn't...

I don't think Cole is going to face either the Orioles or the Jays 18 times this year, let alone both. That seems like a very stupid way to deploy their ace. Also, the Jays problem this year will likely be the pitchers, but their lineup might actually be very intimidating...

When was the last time you saw anyone mention the 2013 championship? I see a lot of people questioning Bloom's lack of activity, and even questioning the moves he has made so far. But no one has said "It's OK. We won in 2013 and 2018."

And yet a lot of players seem to emerge there and do even better than expected. Gio Urshela, Aaron Hicks, Didi Grigorius, Cameron Maybin, Luke Voit. If this "pressure" in Yankee Stadium is so debilitating, why is it Mike Tauchman could hit there but couldn't hit in the most hitter-friendly park in MLB?

Whether or not Preller uses it doesn't change how much sense that deal makes for SD. But when we use the simulator, at least the deals are a lot more fair and realistic than the non-simulator proposals (like Andy Vaughn for Price). That's like proposing Tristan Casas for Mike Leake. ("Hey it works out!! Boston needs a starting pitcher!! And the Dbacks need a 1B!! Make it happen, Hazen!")

That the Padres are so desperate to unload Myers (fifth outfielder on the depth chart) this offseason largely due to the $17mill increase in his salary, and Price is still in Boston, tells me Bloom has very little interest in Myers, if any at all. Even we were able to spot that match; there is no way Bloom missed it. And in reality, ithis deal is a complete no-brainer for the Padres. I am all but 100% positive Preller would do this deal. I think the big "stumbling block" is Bloom wants nothing to do with Myers. I don't really blame him here. Really, if Bloom included $60mill to send Price elsewhere, got nothing in return, and then spent $5mill on a scrap heap outfielder or 1B, it would be cheaper for the Red Sox. Although not as effective on the luxury tax, where he would only save $7mill. At this point, the only way any sort of Price-Myers deal happens is very late in the offseason when both teams realize that no one else is going to take those players off their hands.

They/re not going to be good offers. Since the goal here is to offload cash, I imagine the deal is not going to provide anything if substance or the immediate future and possibly not ever. If the Sox can unload 80-90% of that deal, we might get the second coming of Josh Tobias here...

Attendance per game is obviously not competitive with the NFL or NBA. But the massive amount of opportunities to go to games is the basis for their draw. It's really the same with NCAA football, where there are something like 280 Division I teams. On TV, we only see Notre Dame or Ohio State or Michigan or some team from one of the big 6 conferences, many of which can draw crowds close to 6 digits. Whereas teams like Appalachian State or Eastern Illinois have much, much sparser crowds. But collectively a lot of people chose to spend their entertainment dollars on these events... -
It gives Price a surplus value of negative $60mill, or exactly the value Polishuk said he would need included to take Price in a deal. It is possible he chose that value based on the simulator...

No rush on the BUC, since those guys are only like $4mill on their priciest days. Bloom will probably grab someone like Fedex for $1mill.... He does have to unload some money first. Cot's currently has the Red Sox about $28.5mill over the luxury tax threshold, and the team goal is apparently to get under. It's very likely some of that offloading is Price and Bradley which means he has to replace a starting pitcher and a centerfielder. And if he can offload Price without sending any money with, then he has $14mill to fill those three spots. But he probably can't deal Price without sending some cash along. If this is the case, the Sox may already have their bullpen since they can't afford to add anyone else to it...

There are certainly reasons it’s not fair and there are probably changes underway. MLB has a tendency to think of MiLB as it’s lost little child. But minor league baseball is the second highest drawing sport in this country, behind only Major League Baseball... -
McKay is looking like the exception, and even he might settle in to one role or the other. Rick Ankiel is a nice recall. Babe Ruth was obviously the most successful change, but history seems to have largely forgotten about Lefty O’Doul, who was a pretty weak pitcher who reinvented himself as a Hall of Fame caliber outfielder...

Yes if Kluber is healthy and returns to form. No if he simply pitches sporadically and is nowhere near the pitcher he once was for games when he is active. That Cleveland accepted so little for him - and they know his health situation better than any team - suggests the latter is certainly a distinct possibility...

Price, Bradley and $15mill for Odubel Herrera, David Robertson and Nick Williams. Red Sox get a CF (with massive ethical questions), a RP/Closer, and an OF and save about $20mill towards the luxury tax...

No. I would have liked Kluber, but it’s obvious why the Sox didn’t go for him. They’re cutting payroll towards the tax, and Kluber doesn’t help unless the Sox are trading money, like Bradley. Of course that deal would make very little sense for Cleveland...

He was drafted last year. Dalbec was also a pitcher in college, but teams will make players like Vaughn and Dalbec settle in on one position or another. Vaughn did not pitch in the minors last year, so I think that issue is settled with him for now. Some do change if it isn’t working out, like Trey Ball and Matt Bush did...

Teams do that all the time, too. People also overpay for cars by giving up more money than the Kelly Blue Book says the car is worth. Does that mean the Blue Book is useless? Or that people make bad deals?

It does happen. And if the Orioles don’t give him a chance on those 6 years, it is on them. And really, how many times did teams pass on him in the Rule 5 draft? Just because one good player was a victim of the system doesn’t mean it needs an overhaul...
