That's a valid point. The Sox finished with the inverse record of Cherington's final (partial) season (84-78). Of course, other rumors about Dombrowski's personality abounded as the reason for his dismissal. No idea if they are true. Or if it was the clear direction the team was headed with lots of big contracts lacking matching production. Or some combination of both...

Are you saying my statement that "Cherington won a World Series, had one losing season and was replaced/quit before the second one finished" is NOT a fact? 3. Technically Lucchino got replaced and Cherington quit. Those are also facts.

What's your point? (Are you implying the same team played better as a result of Dombrowski, who essentially did nothing the remainder of that season?) My point was Cherington was not even given two losing seasons before Henry decided a change was needed. Beyond making sure Cherington cannot get mentioned without making sure any sentence with him also contains the phrase "three last place finishes in 4 years," did you have a point?

Probably depends on how eligible that player is to be traded. Can they name players not in the Player Pool yet? Supposedly the Marlins will be receiving Griffon Conine (son of former Marlin All Star Jeff Conine) as the PTBNL for Jon Villar. But I think Griffin Conine was in the Jays player pool...

Missing the playoffs, yes. Last place? No. They actually had a good record by last place standards (78-84) and were basically a .500 team that could have just as easily finished in third place that year...

Technically 3+ years. I seriously doubt the 2012 mess he inherited was held against him when the front office made the decision to hire Dombrowski. The title in 2013 had to wipe it clean. And he was not around for the end of the 2015 season. They moved on DD during August of 2015. So that end result was not a factor in the decision to turnover the front office.

The Dodgers actually had an odd habit of taking carer utility infielders (Jamey Carroll, Justin Turner, Chris Taylor, Max Muncy, Enrique Hernandez) and turning them into All Star caliber starters. The Red Sox have a glut of utility infield types right now, including Peraza, Arauz, and Lin, but cannot get any type of production from them. I think it's Yairo Munoz Time!!

I could see Potts rivaling Jeter Downs for a 2B position in the future. Potts is only a couple months younger, but has a lot more time in AA. However, he has not been remarkably successful there yet.

Springer? Re-unite him with Matt Barnes? Bradley? Pillar? Back for another year. Or maybe a stopgap 1-2 year solution like Michael Taylor? A very good defensive OF with good RHH pop but an inconsistent bat. The only 2 years he got semi-regular playing time, he posted a .730 OPS with 25 HRs in 850 PAs in a rather cavernous statdium. If the Sox go stopgap at 2B, I still like Schoop as an option...

If the Sox keep RHH Dalbec, it does make Chavis completely expendabe. Chavis has one skill - hitting LHP hard. Dalbec, as a same-side hitter, would,negate the need for a platoon at 1B with Chavis. And even if the Sox slide LHH Devers over to 1B, no way Rafael is becoming a platoon player there...
