  1. So you want him to trade Betts for the underwhelming offers he has received so far? Still December. Season doesn’t start for a full quarter of a year...
  2. Other than jacko, no one has suggested they won’t be competitive. Unless you’re one of those who believes spending heavily is the only way to compete...
  3. It turns out getting people to take Price off his hands might be a shorter line than you expect. Also, yes the luxury tax bill was less than they paid Rusney Castillo last year, but apparently the penalties for exceeding again this year total up to a loss of approximately $100 mill. This has been written in multiple sources, none of whom work for the Red Sox...
  4. No one says he can’t, but what we’ve learned is he doesn’t want to...
  5. He doesn’t have the payroll to add Manny and Ortiz. What should he be doing?
  6. Not necessarily. I think they’d take on Price in that dea. Myers is the 5th outfielder on their depth chart and his contract leaps from $5 mill to $22.5 mill this year. If he was any good, they might want to move him but since he isn’t, the only way they move his 3 years $67.5 mill is either pay a huge chunk or take on another albatross. Myers is one of the most sunk costs in MLB. If they get a 2-2.5 fWAR pitcher for a net cost of $9.5mill per year, they might find it amenable. The big stumbling block here is likely that Myers sucks. I agree they won’t want Bradley. Franchy Cordero appears to be the starting CF with Margot slated for 4th OF/weakside platoon. They might not mind including Margot, but not to take back Bradley...
  7. I suggested a trade once with the framework of Herrera and Dave Robertson for Price. The Sox get a CF and good RP coming off an injury-plagued season and save $17mill in AAV with potential to reach $28mill in AAV once they deal Bradley. If they deal Bradley and Price for the same pair, it happens all at once. But Philly winds up taking on in excess of $80mill and might not be so accommodating...
  8. I’m sure it was all factors in his hiring and firing. Ironically, my original post on the subject way back when never said he was fired due to heavy spending, just that the “heavy spending GM was fired” and replaced by the thrifty guy. To me, the biggest irony in all of this is you believe these sportswriters when they tell you why DD was fired but not when they tell you the team has budget issues and has to react to them. This is really weird because that they have budget issues should surprise no one...
  9. If you read the article, Bloom had nothing to do with any of it. That’s just a proposal some sportswriters threw around, one of them being former Rockies’ GM Dan O ‘Dowd. There are other links below with other proposals, but as far as anyone know, neither Bloom nor Friedman have discussed those deals...
  10. You sure do speak for the Dodgers a lot...
  11. You have got to learn how to post links to the completed trade page and not the blank simulator..,
  12. None of that means Henry was fine with his overspending. In fact, all of that happened prio to the 2019 February announcement that DD would get extended. In fact, most of that happened before Henry announced on the field DD would get an extension. However, since February, DD did extend Sale and Bogaerts. Those contracts, on top of numerous others, appear to have been a factor. Of course, like many, I think that Henry and Co. might have tolerated all of that if they kept winning...
  13. Other than Cherington, what front office people did Dombrowski drive away? But really, no doubt DD was an a-hole. But Henry knew that when he hired him from their time together in Florida. I believe as long as those pennants were hanging, DD was safe. But once they stopped, DD was in trouble, and the mess everyone knew was coming when they hired him got here too fast. But if the Sox won the AL East in 2019, no way would DD have been fired. His management style was clearly acceptable when they were winning...
  14. There were also plenty of reasons to believe Henry was upset about the payroll, such as: 1. Not letting Dombrowski add any salary at the trade deadline last year. 2. The clear and obvious plan to reset and get under the tax limit 3. The hiring of a new team architect who constructed a postseason team with a payroll among the lowest in the league
  15. Do you have a link to this article? Most of the articles I saw on the subject related Dombrowski’s dismissal to his continued pursuit of a contract extension. Henry himself said Dombrowski deserved one immediately after the World Series on the field, and reiterated it again in spring training. No one seemed upset at his management style then...
  16. Teheran to Angels Gio Gonzalez to White Sox
  17. That action boldly states Henry did not like spending without winning. That he hired “after the fact” is immaterial. He wasn’t going to hire anyone before firing DD...
  18. If Henry so much despised Dombrowski’s style, it does make you wonder why he hired him. He did employ him previously and knew him quite well. If you want actual facts, Dombrowski spent a lot of money and stopped winning, and left this team in a bad position going forward. If Henry didn’t mind the spending, he could have easily replaced Dombrowski with another heavy slender and continued the same path. He didn’t. It is weird how you prefer external sources like Russo and Gammons but disregard internal ones like Henry and Kennedy, even when their actions support their words...
  19. You’re right!! Bloom has had the job almost 2 months now and has no rings!!! Time to abandon ship!!! He might get fired one day. Or he might not although people will rationalize being was. But only two people acting as GM for the Sox have actually been fired in the Henry era - Dan Duquette and Dave Dombrowski...
  20. Right. We should have more reasonable demands - like a parade every 4 years....
  21. I never even remotely made that suggestion. In fact, by that logic, Dombrowski made 0 good moves. If you’re expecting Bloom is not doing his job or doesn’t know how to because he has failed to add players of the Manny/Irtiz caliber, your insane expectations are not going to be met. Whether you choose to believe it or not, the team has reached a budget limit. Just because you don’t have the confirmation you want on this doesn’t mean you get to just go into denial and whine about. The fact is, the heavy-spending GM was fired and the trade/bargain/low budget GM was brought in. He won’t meet your standard for good moves as those involve big names and big contracts, but history has shown he knows how to do his job and the fact that some fans do not believe in the existence of the limitations he clearly has in place doesn’t change this or matter...
  22. Is that the standard? “Good move” = future Hall of Famer? And stop pretending you were rejoicing when the Sox acquired Ortiz. Had you ever even heard of him before 2003?
  23. Maybe I was not specific enough. None of those trades involve dealing an established star for prospects. Maybe an argument can be made for the Beckett deal...
  24. And let’s not forget if we’re speaking for the Dodgers, Pollock was at minimum Plan B. They only signed him after missing out on Harper...
  25. I don’t know if either side wants Pollock or how badly, but his contract is likely not the issue. His AAV is substantially lower than Price’s. If you’re the Sox GM, is it better to pay Price $45-50mill to play elsewhere or take back a contract in that range that could fill a position of need?
