  1. If the Sox get Myers, he becomes less of a need. No way Myers goes into the OF. So with him at 1B, where does Naylor play?
  2. Per baseballtradevaues.com, a fair trade would be Betts for Myers, Margot and Mackenzie Gore and $17mill from the Padres. Would anyone make that deal?
  3. Accrding to the simulator, the Padres would have to pay $49mill if the deal was Myers, Lucchesi and Naylor for Betts. Or they could pay $15mill and include Luis Campusano and Franchy Cordero...
  4. So it's Myers plus Margot/Naylor and Quantrill/Lucchesi plus a $19mill reduction in AAV? I can see waiting on the Dodgers here...
  5. Per BR.com, Myers is owed $67mill. If the Padres only want to eat a quarter of that - assuming I am reading this right - they expect the Sox to pay about $50mill. So how does that work from an AAV standpoint?
  6. That's one of the most commonly floated trade suggestions on this site, for all the reason you cited, along with the Padres getting a 2fWAR starter for a net cost $9mill per year for the next 3 years. In fact, once before when I floated this same proposal, you questioned why San Diego would be interested...
  7. The Sox had both those things last year and how did that turn out?
  8. His insanity might work to the Sox' benefit.
  9. Oh Bradley is the better player. But why would a GM trade for Bradley at $11mill when he can sign Hamilton for significantly less? Hamilton is averaging a full WAR less per season, but might only sign for $4mill.
  10. C'mon. The man did take a displaced Hurricane Katrina family into his home...
  11. No idea what they want, but to me Price for Stripling is a tough sell. If they do want Price, it's probably just to lessen what it takes to get Betts. This is a team that lives and dies with its prospects. And the question is, are they really just sending that message to Bloom? San Diego wants Betts, but also wants Boston to take Wil Myers (3 years $67mill). Instead of heaving more deadweight contracts back, the Dodgers are willing to take one on in order to get Betts. I would have thought not taking back Myers was enough appeal on its own, but the Dodgers appear to be going above and beyond...
  12. If Bradley starts the season in Boston, he finishes it there as well. And with Pillar and Billy Hamilton still looking for jobs, Bradley doesn't look like the most attractive CF option on the market...
  13. Are the Dodgers getting any better by replacing 2018 All Star Ross Stripling with Price?
  14. Except that they do not have any sort of history giving out that type of contract to external players. And by “that type of contract”, I just mean 9 figures over 6 or more years. Am I wrong here? I can’t think of anyone...
  15. The whole “once he’s gone he ain’t coming back” mentality also applies to the end of 2020, right? First of all, players do re-sign with the team that traded them all the team. Most don’t, largely because there are 29 other teams. We know Betts wants as much money as possible. That keeps the large market Red Sox in the running. Resetting does as well. How many teams have the money available to sign Betts next year? Th Yankees likely spent their allowance this year. The Red Sox can. Maybe the Dodgers. Maybe the Mets. Anyone else?
  16. A viewpoint held by myself and Slasher. Although I’d prefer trading others...
  17. Never confuse wanting as much money as possible with wanting out of Boston. Not even remotely the same thing...
  18. The problem with these articles is they keep listing Dodger prospects but never say who the Dodgers are willing to give up. By merely not asking the Sox to take (someone like) Myers, they’ve already upped the offer...

    Kobe

It appears to not be. I actually thought all I would see about Kobe today was stories about LeBron passing Kobe on the all time scoring list last night. RIP Kobe Bryant. One of the greatest players ever...
  20. I deal them separate. No point in watering down a Betts return. And I’d be OK with an Eovaldi/Odor trade...
  21. As I said before, if you’re going to trade Betts, do it now. Position players don’t get great deadline e returns. Wait on Price, but Eovaldi now. He won’t make it to the deadline healthy...
  22. Any player who can top 4 fWAR can be an asset. Myers has 3.0 fWAR in the last 3 seasons combined and has topped 1.6 fWAR one time since 2014. I don’t have any faith in him magically becoming a 4 WAR player in his 30s when he couldn’t be one in his 20s...
  23. Unless the Sox get punished so severely for cheating that it scares the Yankees into stopping, too...
  24. Really? You think that should be Plan B??!?!
  25. Yeah but not really the point...
