  1. But Price was a mistake. Mookie is certainly less likely to be one, but that doesn’t mean he won’t at some point. Mookie want $35 million per year for 12 years. How many good years do you expect from him?
  2. The Sox have Lin, Peraza, Chavis, and Hernandez all with MLB experience. Not to mention Rule 5 pick Arauz, Chatham, dark horse Chad de la Guerra, and defense-only Jeremy Rivera. They could certainly try their hand at a veteran (you know, like Peraza), but I think they have some depth here. Also, getting Seager for Betts is a waste...
  3. Either way. The point is they can get Verdugo in the lineup. And really, with those 4, there is no wrong choice for CF. Any of Betts, Pollock, Bellinger and Verdugo can handle the position...
  4. I see. I left out a strategically placed “not” that did alter the entire meaning. It is now fixed...
  5. I’d be surprised (and also thrilled) if Verdugo was part of this deal. Even more so than if Urias was. If the Dodgers acquire Betts, where does he pla, with them having Betts, Pollock and Bellinger for OF. My thoughts are Verdugo in CF. Bellinger to 1b. Muncy to 2b. I doubt Verdugo is in play here...
  6. Yeah that wasn’t really fallout from the Tudor trade. I think you’re thinking of Dennis Eckersley (who is not left-handed)...
  7. Bellinger had a .681 OPS vs LHP that year. And Pederson had a .512 OPS vs LHP that year. Granted that was only in 87 plate appearances. I can see benching them. Heck they benched Pederson all year against LHP. Muncy was .891. His benching made no sense..
  8. So you think Mookie doesn’t realize he’s not as good as Trout, but does think Trout is fairly paid, and that he (Mookie) deserves more? Mookie wants more than Trout so far. So if you think the first thought is crazy, then this is the only other option...
  9. But the trade of Tudor got us Don Baylor (via Mike Easler)...
  10. No Scioscia!! The Sox don’t have a closer for him to burn out...
  11. And if he is well on his way to another 92 loss season on July31, and still holds on to Betts all the way to free agency, he should be gone...
  12. After the job he did on that farm system, he will be unemployed for potentially dozens of minutes...
  13. Wow. You come from a big family..
  14. Joe
  15. So are you recommending Dahlek umpires from Dr. Who? "The runner has been EXTERMINATED!!! EXTERMINATED!!!"
  16. The AAV on Myers contract is $13.8mill. He does have roughly $67mill remaining on the heavily backloaded contract. If the Padres paid half (~$33mill over 3 years), the Sox would only be responsible for $2.8 mill of that AAV, right?
  17. Ah but what happens when you have a clever manager who hits the umpire with a logical paradox?
  18. The simulator allows for the Sox to send Betts and Price and $45mill to the Doders for Gonsolin, OF DJ Peters and Pederson. THat move cuts about $37mill off the Sox luxury tax payments. It's not a horrible trade, but it does lack any sexy names coming back to Boston. The Sox might be able to pay a little more and get an actual prospect instead of Pederson. Something like Betts, Price and $51mill (which brings Price down to $15mill per year) and get back Gonsolin, Peters, and Josiah Gray, or Gonsolin, Keibert Ruiz and Connor Wong. I think the dodgers view Ruiz (blocked by Will Smith) and Wong (power speed combo with a .997 OPS in limited AA action last year, but has no real position) as trade chips they don't really need in their future and might be amenable to moving both here, allowing them to keep Gray and Peters, who might have futures in LA. And of those two packages, I like the latter. Just sending money is preferable to taking back contracts where the pay equals the AAV because when dealing Price, the money can be spread over 3 years towards the tax. So taking Pederson is worth $7mill for one year. But an additional $6mill payment is only $2mill, but for 3 years... Again, prefer Verdugo. And the Sox might get him. But he is valued similar to Betts so it's a tough fit on the simulator...
  19. A severed head zombie robot manager is the stuff dreams are made of...
  20. Some rumors have it the my reason these talks are still going on is Bloom not insisting on May or Lux. Side note - wasn’t MayLux a brand of washing machine or something back in the 70’s? Not actually relevant here but it’s got me curious...
  21. 1. Why Pollock? The major reason to offload Eovaldi is he is hurt all the time. For that reason, Pollock is not the answer. 2. Don’t lose sight of the fact that the only reason the Sox are considering trading Betts is to reset. They don’t need to sell off the rest of the team and go into a full blown rebuild. I’m sure the Sox are hoping they can lure Betts back after 2020, but it would probably help a little if there was still a team left to come back to...
  22. Oh I think LA will insist on his inclusion. The only advantage to getting him is he can handle CF somewhat if the Sox deal Bradley to get under. The only way I take back Pollock is if I get to unload Price...
  23. Pederson would likely be included solely to offset some cash. Like how the Mariners took back Bruce and Swarzak last year...
  24. Lux is out. If Lux was on the table, Lindor would be a Dodger...
  25. So if LA offered Verdugo, Tony Gonsolin and Connor Wong, do you send the future Hall of Famer to the Left Coast?
