  1. Oh if I was only one dollar short...
  2. I’m slower, apparently...
  3. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/carl-crawford-arrested-domestic-violence-charge-dodgers-red-sox-rays-mlb-220010691.html
  4. Well, he is unlikely to get 502 plate appearances. But if he gets 201 hits 201+ at bats, he could “Tony Gwynn Rule” himself into a legitimate .400 average....
  5. Kurkjian did say it would be a legitimate season and would count. There will be a legitimate champion. And if Albert Pujols passes Willie Mays for career home runs, then Mays moves down a notch. (Pujols is only 4 HR behind.) But if, say, Jeff McNeil hits .400, or Jake deGrom posts an ERA below 1.12, that would not and should count as a legitimate record...
  6. Watching KBO this morning (LG vs Kiwoon), and Tim Kijurkian came on. He said there would be a season - guessing 48 games - and expected it to start in late July/early August timeframe. He drew this conclusion from speaking to some unnamed source...
  7. With the expanded rosters, I’d rather see more double headers than pitching changes and pinch running specialists. Although I don’t think emphasizing horticulture is likely or useful. “Come watch MLB!! See the grass grow!!” Bad slogan...
  8. I already unpacked my white flag...
  9. If I had to bet, I would say no 2020 season,....
  10. It does seem like the Honor System is the only way to enforce that clause. I can’t see MLB saying “Sorry. Your child isn’t a big enough risk” and having it be anything but negative PR...
  11. That was what Jeff Passan said...
  12. As much as I want baseball back, the South Sidets out here like to point out how f***ed up the world has been since the Cubs won the World Series ...
  13. We fund it, but the politics of baseball involve all the in-fighting of dividing up our funding. And like I said, it’s maybe 1,000 or so people who can’t agree on how to divide up several billion dollars. That’s the frustrating part. As for our stake being minimal, however they resolve really doesn’t impact us. We only need a resolution one way or the other...
  14. But what is the return? We get entertainment. We get no share of the main assets they are arguing over....
  15. Our stake is minimal at best. The politics of baseball boil down to maybe a thousand people angrily fighting over how to divide up several billion dollars....
  16. Per Passan, this one is on the owners. He wrote about how a partial season with no gate could represent a huge financial loss for many owners, and they’d just assume there be no season instead....
  17. He’s certainly the longest tenured. And not as much of an idiot as Masseroti...
  18. I know. Shortened season? New rules? Weird playoff format? Count me in. It’s stil baseball. Except the 3 batter minimum rule, which is stupid and only in consideration for pace and TV considerations...
  19. Most of the released players were 25+ with little experience above A-ball. There were a few surprise ones, at least to me, such as Marina Campana, Samuel Miranda, Andre Colon, Zach Schneider, and Breiner Licona. But Bloom does know these players better than I do...
  20. I respet Snell's decision. He isn't coming from a place of entitlement. This can be a very serious illness, and a player actually infected might be asymptomatic and notice no difference. But he also might experience serious lug damage, enough that he is no longer capable of playing at the required level. Snell doesn't so much need the money,as he has a lot guaranteed over the next 3 seasons. But maybe he prefers not risking actually being able to play...
  21. And their careers are insanely short in the majority of cases. The average career length in one study is 5.6 years (so, not enough time for the big money-making free agency). And 20% of the position players play less then one year....
  22. And when e-sports becomes a bigger deal in this country, that will matter...
  23. ... not counting tips..
  24. Oh man. Made it interesting. And then where are Tim Duncan and the vastly underrated John Stockton in all this? And where are Dr. J and Larry?
  25. At least trying to quantify the greatest NBA player is a bit easier than the best NFL player...
