  1. Per Pro-Basketball-Reference.com, Kareem is the all time leader in Win Shares. But no one touts him as the GOAT...
  2. So.... how about that Cora? One whacky dude or what?
  3. Then either side. Less red in our Red Sox, please...
  4. I call for a moratorium on Marxism on any Red Sox board this side of the Volga River...
  5. Yes. Partial compensation https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/27/mlb-mlbpa-reach-agreement-on-postponed-season-pay.html
  6. Sad story. I believe he is the last Red Sox player to hit for a Natural Cycle..
  7. Seems odd to think about, but there was no suspended MLB season during the Spanish Flu pandemic. That virus killed 50,000,000 globally and 675,000 Americans and the US population was only maybe 110,000,000 at the time. But they had a season and the Red Sox won the World Series that year....
  8. What's the over/under as to when Jeff Bezos has all the money in the country? November 1st sound about right?
  9. The Sox have given plenty of drafted players less than $20,000 and seen them get into MLB or AAA. That reduced sum might not be a decrease for a lot of them...
  10. So apparently Blake Snell is out at pro-rated pay
  11. I think we will see every team trying that tactic to some extent...
  12. I don't want them. But my daughter did like getting the game balls more than the trophies...
  13. Don’t knock youth soccer. And are you knocking the “participation awards” for 5 year old kids? Ever seen them play any sport? Why reward winning? 99% of the time it’s purely accidental...
  14. Actually I would argue this is the year to lose it. Any other season, if you needed to fill a roster space somewhere with a UDFA, the best players available were undrafted after 40 rounds. This year, the UDFA pool contains a full assortment of sixth round picks...
  15. Don’t teams basically do that anyway? That’s how the Sox originally acquired Dan Butler...
  16. I suppose a better question is “does his agent think he can get a better deal?
  17. That’s because you don’t yet have kids who play sports. Right now, the only two you say you’re still interested in are the ones you’re physically involved in at some level. So expect baseball/softball/soccer etc. to join those ranks as your kid(s) pull you back in...
  18. The only shell of its former self is the Sox pitching staff. Still, I’m interested, and none of these changes dissuade me. In fact, I’ve wanted the DH in the NL for years now..,
  19. The players and owners fight about money even when there is no pandemic. This is about as surprising as the sun coming up...
  20. But can he get a better deal than $38.75mill over 2 years on the market? Maybe a lower AAV but for more years? He still has one opt out remaining...
  21. Teams will still sign undrafted players. And while certainly plenty of good players have been drafted in later rounds, the chances of drafting good players after round five drops precipitously. (Actually it drops off near early in round 4 per this study.) https://academicworks.cuny.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1759&context=cc_etds_theses
  22. If they do the short season, will their reset attempt count?
  23. I’m fine and see the point about full salary. While certainly many precautions will be in place, they are still the ones taking health risks and being kept from their families while the billionaire owners cower in their fully-stocked bunkers that have more amenities than I could ever fathom. And what about the umpires? I haven’t heard anything about them. Are they taking pro-rated pay? They face the same risks as the players...
  24. So assuming things happen and a couple stars align for MLB in 2020, most (all?) of us think the Sox have some pitching concerns. Any moves you think Bloom has left up his sleeve or you’d like to see him try? While a few players remain unsigned in the roster freeze, anyone appealing over a shortened season?
  25. His greatness is not in question. No one disputes he isn’t among the top handful of players. And certainly any arguments that he isn’t the greatest don’t put him very far down on the list. But I do think there are arguments for a few other players. And I don’t like the “six rings” argument at all. The advanced stats one is much better, IMO...
