  1. After 4 IP Barnes is toast? Barnes saw his K/9 go up three straight seasons (along with his BB/9) and is still a good relief pitcher with control left. With the possible exception of Workman, Barnes is more tradable than anyone else mentioned.
  2. Well, also because he had good defensive numbers in CF...
  3. Marcus Wilson is Kevin Pillar Lite...
  4. As I said in the post, he might not get the same money per year, but he might get more years. If the NL retains the DH, his appeal does double...
  5. I think if you replaced Benintendi with Marcus Wilson, you would find out very soon that Wilson is not going to do just as well as Benintendi. Or even close. Ok so Benintendi looks lost at the plate. Why do people think stuff like that is permanent? Benintendi is not hurting the Sox chances this year. Those chances ended when Sale went down for the season...
  6. That’s because “rebuilding” is ownerspeak for “saving money”. The chances of a rebuild putting together anything but a bad team even long term are historically very high...
  7. If say the trade bait is: Bradley Pillar Workman Hembree Perez Moreland Realistically they all won’t be moved and probably won’t bring back much if anything, since many teams are going to be holding back. No point in going all in for a postseason that might never happen. Workman is the best piece. Followed by either Perez or Hembree. Pitchers, and especially relievers, historically seem to fetch better returns than position players. The Sox might try to move Martinez as well, as he can opt out anyway. And while his value as a free agent might not net him the salary ($19.38 million) he is owed over the next two years, he might be able to increase his years. If the NL retains the DH, his chances of opting out should go way up. So he certainly could be tradable. Not sure he brings back much, either, as a rental DH in a season where the playoffs are in jeopardy...
  8. Leave Benintendi in. Slumps end. We’ve all seen it before. Not sure who these two outfield prospects who would be as good are. Duran? He gets by on unsustainable BABIP and might be a glove-only outfielder in MLB where defenses are better. Who’s the other one?
  9. No it’s not time to bring up some youngsters. 1. Don’t be fooled by the date. It’s still only 9 games. We’ve all seen 9 game slumps before. 2. What youngsters? Have you seen our farm? And what if they struggle for 9 games? Do we call up players even younger? Like toddlers? 3. And are you suggesting giving up On Benintendi already?
  10. Is there a manager anywhere in baseball history who can win when handed a team with Ryan Weber as the #3 starter?
  11. Yahoo reported yesterday it could be cancelled as soon as Monday...
  12. Especially if the season does not reach August 31 in order to make the reset official. And right now, it looks unlikely to make it to August 31. Or even August 4th...
  13. Great.7 inning double headers. EXtra innings with a man on second. These new rules suck. (Although if there only to get us through pandemic times, I'm ok with that.)
  14. All the more reason to trade him. Besides, by mid-August, you'll be agreeing it's time to deal him...
  15. Yes, if they sign him after Atlanta releases him. Had they claimed him, they would be on the hook for his pro-rated salary...
  16. Maybe the salary pushes the Sox too close to the reset limit? (The Sox take the whole deal on a waiver over claim.) Maybe the velocity loss was too much. Atlanta didn’t DFA him solely because of one tough outing. It is possible they knew what they were doing and everyone else figured it out shortly after. And if the Sox do like him, he is 99% likely to be non-tendered this off-season...
  17. Why wouldn’t he? Bauer has pitched postseason and never seemingly cared about the ramifications of his tweets.
  18. I think you undersell Bauer, who is more than just an “established major league starter”. He’s extremely good. Now will he stick to his “one year deals only” philosophy once he becomes a free agent? That’s a huge factor. And Bauer would likely disagree with your comparison to Cole...
  19. I will be surprised if this season makes it to the end...
  20. Really it comes down to one’s personal beliefs on building a staff. Personally, I liked the idea of getting the highly regarded high powered arm for the staff. Bloom obviously preferred getting someone capable of filling larger roles, perhaps to let the smaller roles be filled with trickle down effect. Probably worth pointing out Bloom has been part of assembling some of the best economically feasible staffs in recent years and my track record for building pitching staffs is somewhat less. Heck I think I’m 11th out of 11 in team ERA in my fantasy league. f***ing Mike Foltyniewicz...
  21. Ok for the 50,000,000 time, relief pitchers are not inconsistent. Rather, inconsistent pitchers are relievers. The mere act of putting a pitcher on the bullpen doesn’t lessen his ability. If Graterol was talented enough to start but simply not durable, he could easily fill a much needed relief role very well, and MLB is increasingly becoming a bullpen game...
  22. Yeah but I used it in a negative sense. My words were “there’s no guarantee....” I get that Graterol’s health scared them, but the Sox need pitching anywhere they can get it. And these Robert Stock types from the waiver wire are not likely to be the cure. Obviously Bloom does have way more knowledge about it than me. He has reviewed the medical data and probably gone over it with doctors. Heck, if you handed me Graterol’s medical file, the only thing I could make from it is a fleet of paper airplanes. But I still liked the idea of getting a badly needed pitcher. And a pitcher who can hit 100 made it even cooler...
  23. Yeah I got the health part. But what exactly is Downs’ “guaranteed future”?
  24. Most of your post actually makes a better case that Graterol is more valuable than Downs. Also, Major Leaguers are more valuable than players with 12 games above A ball...
  25. Jeter Downs has played 12 games above A ball in his career. The “stud” talk might be premature. There’s no guarantee he ever even plays Major League Baseball, let alone locks anything down for years...
