  1. I saw nothing on the board today that changes that...
  2. True. But Manny's deal was signed 20 years ago. Back when we were still at "82 years and counting." I'd think the Sox financial picture might have changed a bit since then. Could they afford 4 more years of potential decline nowadays? Other teams have locked up their stars into their early 40's. I would bet Mookie's deal, despite being significantly larger, would hamper the Sox a lot less than, say, Joey Votto's will do to the Reds...
  3. Now Mookie did have an uncle (actually first cousin once removed) who played in a variety of MLB cities, including Boston briefly, and possibly hinted at this. But I don't think Terry Shumpert drew either a lot of praise or a lot of ire from the Boston media for any of his 51 plate appearances for the Sox...
  4. So Mookie craves apathy? Not really sure how you think Graceland fits in the story...
  5. Oh they all go south eventually. Signing a mega deal wheer you get as many productive seasons as Manny Ramirez provided is the outlier. But then Manny was a similar age to Betts when he signed...
  6. Speculation. Even JD Martinez said the Sox would not be able to keep two $30mill players. But we know they could afford one...
  7. ALCS Goat Brandon Lowe finally came through for them. Twice...
  8. But how did he know what to compare it to? I wonder what city had the second toughest media he played in front of - Pawtucket or Portland? Or was it Greenville? Now I will give him this - Boston does have some of the stupidest sportswriters and media personalities like Gerry Callahan and Tony Massarotti. But those guys rip into ownership just as much as players...
  9. Oh please. Being the "Best Todd" is an honor akin to being the Scariest Parakeet. After Rundgren, the competition drops off precipitously. Who else is in the top 5? Todd Bridges? Big whoop...
  10. Exactly. oldtimer's point is Mookie very likely cut too deep into the budget to accommodate the expected demands of Seager. And they potentially see Seager walk after next season...
  11. The Dodgers also have the advantage of havig players come up and contribute for minimum MLB wage, which makes keeping some of their stars around with insane lucrative deals, even if said prospects play different positions. They might let Seager walk but they have the option to take, say, Keibert Ruiz, a highly regarded and superfluous (thanks to Will Smith) catching prospect, and package him off for a shortstop, like say Carter Kieboom, who then plays for the MLB minimum. The bigger deal will be when they try to extend Bellinger, who should be a lot more difficult to replace than Seager...
  12. Of course there are. See my frustration comments in the other thread. Of course, the Dodges did get where they are without Price all season long...
  13. I still do. Because his spending habits made it an obvious outcome. I was even saying in the waning days of that other website that the Price contract would make signing Betts more difficult if not impossible...
  14. And really, I have seen enough in my (way too many) years of posting on Red Sox boards to realize some people use these types of forums to vent their frustrations...
  15. What if all 10 are two-base errors?
  16. Go Rays!! (And this has nothing to do with Mookie. I just want to see the Rays have as many titles as the Yankees this milennia.)
  17. I used to like Range Factor as a defensive metric. But then I realized there were too many outside factors that influenced it, such as pitching staff and ballpark. It really only works for comparing two players who play the same position on the same team...
  18. That's the thing about errors. They do not tell much of a story at all. For example, say you are managing a fictional baseball team called the Harrisburg Hypotheticals. You have two starting shortstop candidates and need to start the better defender of the two. So you have your coach hit each of them 100 identical ground balls. Shortstop A only gets to 80 of them, but makes all 80 plays. Shortstop B gets to all 100, but makes 10 errors. Who is your starter?
  19. But Sammy Davis Jr was a better Candy Man than John Candelaria. (Again, bringing it back to baseball)
  20. And for the record, Spencer Turnbull and Chris & Khris Davis are all still alive as of this writing. Back to baseball...
  21. Just yesterday you asked Henry if he was too busy "bean counting" to watch Mookie in the World Series. Although I can honestly see that being chalked up to frustration...
  22. And after that point, Mookie did seem hellbent on testing the market. It is entirely possible he saw the extension from LA as being about as good as thigns were going to get once the pandemic hit and the economic future seemed a lot less certain. His comments about being dedicated to winning in the atmosphere of the Dodgers seemed a bit premature, as he had not played a single regular season game for them at the time the deal was announced...
  23. Well, Boston cannot compete with Miami or San Diego or LA in a lot of ways as a city. Except that the Sox do certainly pay a lot more for athletes....
  24. So you’re saying that because Price took a bit load of cash, it dismisses Torii Hunter’s claim? I’ve been hearing these types of things about Boston since former Celtics’ guard Dee Brown got harassed by the police for house shopping in Wellesley...
  25. Undesirable to play for is worse. We’ve heard Torii Hunter and Adam Jones say exactly that about Boston, verifying what we all learned from Carl Crawford. And maybe now Mookie? No one thinks the Sox are too cheap except Sox fans who apparently get upset that a team can be assembled and Henry still has money left over. I would think an undesirable team would be a bigger deal to the players, but cheap reputations are probably more common among fans. Like I said, Henry is one of the biggest spending team owners in all of professional sports and has been for well over a decade. But somehow at this stage he is STILL being accused of being cheap...
