  1. Disagree 100%. Stupid rule. I am ok with rule changes, but the idea of disallowing certain strategies simply because some people don't like them is just wrong. Also why no one should be allowed to ban shifts. MLB had other options to speed up games that they have ignored for reasons no one will ever understand....
  2. A big part of that is how little time he has spent as an outfielder. He only moved there in 2018 for 15 games before a full time move in 2019, and then had no real season in 2020...
  3. I think they planned to use him as the cover art, but he got injured taking the picture...
  4. Exactly. It's apples to half-rotten apples!!
  5. Would you have preferred Steve Pearce?
  6. But the point being made was that winning the titles makes the downside of megadeals worthwhile. So was Price's contract worth it for the 2018 title?
  7. Yes, 12 years is longer than 7 years. But 27 is younger than 31. One thing about these two deals is that unlike Price, there is nothing about Mookie's game that has a high probability of leading to an injury that ends a season or a career. While he certainly can have a career-ending injury any day, he is not going to get some wrist or elbow injury from swinging a bat properly or from making a clean play in the outfield. But Price or any pitcher could experience a serious injury from the mere act of pitching. And many, many pitchers do...
  8. So does that same logic apply to Price?
  9. Batspeed is a huge part of Mookie's game. He'd still be elite if he ran like Matt Adams...
  10. So a 40yo Hall of Famer making $31mill is that much scarier than a 38yo former All Star/Cy Young starting pitcher making $31mill?
  11. You're making my point. Now if you had said "Todd Christianson", maybe..
  12. Absolutely, Teams have been burned. And will continue to do so. You even left out the completely horrific deal Dombrowski gave to Miguel Cabrera. What deal do you think is worse (i.e. more likely to go sour) 31yo Price at 7 years / $217 mill or 27yo Mookie at 12 years / $370 mill?
  13. I saw nothing on the board today that changes that...
  14. True. But Manny's deal was signed 20 years ago. Back when we were still at "82 years and counting." I'd think the Sox financial picture might have changed a bit since then. Could they afford 4 more years of potential decline nowadays? Other teams have locked up their stars into their early 40's. I would bet Mookie's deal, despite being significantly larger, would hamper the Sox a lot less than, say, Joey Votto's will do to the Reds...
  15. Now Mookie did have an uncle (actually first cousin once removed) who played in a variety of MLB cities, including Boston briefly, and possibly hinted at this. But I don't think Terry Shumpert drew either a lot of praise or a lot of ire from the Boston media for any of his 51 plate appearances for the Sox...
  16. So Mookie craves apathy? Not really sure how you think Graceland fits in the story...
  17. Oh they all go south eventually. Signing a mega deal wheer you get as many productive seasons as Manny Ramirez provided is the outlier. But then Manny was a similar age to Betts when he signed...
  18. Speculation. Even JD Martinez said the Sox would not be able to keep two $30mill players. But we know they could afford one...
  19. ALCS Goat Brandon Lowe finally came through for them. Twice...
  20. But how did he know what to compare it to? I wonder what city had the second toughest media he played in front of - Pawtucket or Portland? Or was it Greenville? Now I will give him this - Boston does have some of the stupidest sportswriters and media personalities like Gerry Callahan and Tony Massarotti. But those guys rip into ownership just as much as players...
  21. Oh please. Being the "Best Todd" is an honor akin to being the Scariest Parakeet. After Rundgren, the competition drops off precipitously. Who else is in the top 5? Todd Bridges? Big whoop...
  22. Exactly. oldtimer's point is Mookie very likely cut too deep into the budget to accommodate the expected demands of Seager. And they potentially see Seager walk after next season...
  23. The Dodgers also have the advantage of havig players come up and contribute for minimum MLB wage, which makes keeping some of their stars around with insane lucrative deals, even if said prospects play different positions. They might let Seager walk but they have the option to take, say, Keibert Ruiz, a highly regarded and superfluous (thanks to Will Smith) catching prospect, and package him off for a shortstop, like say Carter Kieboom, who then plays for the MLB minimum. The bigger deal will be when they try to extend Bellinger, who should be a lot more difficult to replace than Seager...
  24. Of course there are. See my frustration comments in the other thread. Of course, the Dodges did get where they are without Price all season long...
  25. I still do. Because his spending habits made it an obvious outcome. I was even saying in the waning days of that other website that the Price contract would make signing Betts more difficult if not impossible...
