  1. I’d rather have just kept Price....
  2. We have no real idea if this is the ego-feeding venture you keep postulating. Is Bloom about just plain winning? Or being recognized as the builder of winners? It’s hard to do the latter unless you work for a small market team. No one is dazzled by anyone building a winner by spending $250 mill. How do you think Joe Maddon got his (completely undeserved) reputation as a good manager?
  3. Don't incite panic. Bloom's inactivity is actually proof jacko is not correct about Chaim's plans...
  4. Also a Cy Young winner on Dombrowski’s flagship 2016 team. But DD inherited Porcello in Boston and it’s not very likely DD had any influence on his pitching ability...
  5. True. But I focused on his Sox transactions, and Dombrowski traded him to Boston...
  6. Well, let’s keep some perspective and remember the vast gray area in between being one of the highest spending teams and the Rays - an area where 20-25 other teams reside...
  7. Porcello was a Cherington guy. Dombrowski traded him away. Cherington traded for him and extended him...
  8. I was wondering if Henry called a moratorium on the Sox Big Spending Days. But if he wanted a lower salary for his team and a payroll reduction, one might suspect Bogaerts would be in more trade rumors and Benintendi in fewer. Still it is a possibility...
  9. Big agree...
  10. The only market that is actually moving is the closer/reliever market. That’s one Bloom needs to do something in quickly...
  11. That’s the funny thing. Most of us did not think Lackey coming back would be good. And really, until the post season, he wasn’t. Buchholz was amazing - probably his best year. But he was part of last place in2012. You’re right in the biggest addition to that 2013 team was Uehara. But he was not a starter, which is what your point was...
  12. The last place 2012 Red Sox added only Ryan Dempster to the rotation. Does that count in the history?
  13. Bloom is doing good things to help the future, but that doesn’t mean you ignore the present. The Sox still have to put a watchable product on the field. After all, that is what this entire business is about - being a watchable product...
  14. As disappointing as signing Martin Perez is, as it stands now only 5 free agents have signed deals longer than 2 years and only 10 more have even signed 2 year deals. There are lots of good players left...
  15. At some point, they do have to justify the whole "reset" thing...
  16. Well, it is a list of the largest signing bonuses given to IFA. As neither Daisuke nor Okajima - both of whom went through a posting process for exclusive rights as well as hefty sums for their former teams - did not receive an actual signing bonus, they are not on the list. If the list included draft picks, Rick Asadoorian might be on it. Remember him? Sox gave him a ton of money (like $6mill, I think) out of high school and he wound up being a career minor leaguer for 12 years...
  17. Not sure why Bloom likes Martin Perez. He's not horrible, but not exactly what we need, either.
  18. We've seen it before. Henry does not like paying luxury taxes and the goal was to reset. They did it in 2012. They did it in 2017. And they did it again after 2020. It's typically followed by a spending spree. So far. we have seen no such spending spree. But despite the glacially paced offseason, we have still only seen two contracts break the previously held deal by James McCann for largest deal this offseason.
  19. Because they did not get signing bonuses...
  20. I am not sure I can name any. Sugano did not sign with another team. He bailed on Kim prematurely. Odorizzi and Semien have yet to sign anywhere. And anyone else we have no idea if or if not there was anything above cursory interest and/or due diligence. So far, Kluber looks like the real first target that he "lost out" on...
  21. At least we know they won't say "Select all squares with a strike in them"...
  22. How many players besides Kluber was Bloom really in on that went on to sign with other MLB teams?
  23. Of course the interesting angle in all of this is Trevor Bauer loses suitors with every big contract, and might even see his price come down over the next month. He’s going to sign somewhere and the Sox are going to sign someone...
  24. Pitchers and catchers report in a month. Shouldn’t be an issue for the Sox, as they have no pitchers...
  25. Tazawa never pitched in NPB and was never posted. Straight up free agent...
