  1. Corey Seager
  2. Well, Soggy Corn Flake Crunch. The Sox still have plenty of room to DFA people. Candidates still on board include Puello, Stock, Covey, Hall, Springs, Brice, Peraza, Aybar, Hart, and Brewer. And I think Valdez and Weber should be candidates as well...
  3. Mookie was drafted in 2011. Cherington did not take over as GM until the 2012 season...
  4. If Seager asked for $35mill annually, I would let him go. Paying that money to Mookie is one thing; he is of Cooperstown Caliber. Seager can be ranked anywhere among the top 5 shortstops to reach the market in 2021 He simply isn't the same type of unique talent...
  5. Ohhhhhhhhhh. So that's what the T.A. in George T.A. Steinbrenner stood for. I always thought something else...
  6. Well, my point was his reputation and it's effect on his desire for total autonomy. He's obviously among very few human beings on the planet worth considering for a MLB GM position, but that doesn't put him in the same class as the ones who are also not only on that exclusive list, but are regarded enough to get carte blanche. While there are Sox fans who only look at his track record here and do not blame/credit him with the current mess the team is in with their large declining contracts and depleted farm system, I can promise you not a single MLB owner or President of Operations feels that way. And that he did the same thing in Detroit does not help him. I will not be surprised at all if another team hires him. I would be extremely surprised if he got total autonomy...
  7. While it is a question mark, at least he does have mutliple options available in Jansen, Treinen and Graterol. And possibly Kolarek if it is matchup-based...
  8. Or recurring injuries....
  9. Probably true, but those guys also do not carry the same reputation as Dombrowski...
  10. How many of those reasons contain the phrase "AJ Pollock"?
  11. I assume when "Making a Strawman" becomes an Olympic event, you will be representing Canada? I do think it is a good idea to not give $200 mill/7 year contracts to pitchers over 30. Not really sure how that equates to "avoid pitchers altogether."
  12. Now that he has been DFA'd I'm ok with bringing Lin back as a non-40 man player. BBut if they let him go or he elects free agency or a return back home, that';s fine, too. He's not exactly irreplaceable. Of course, this move is to open spaces on the 40-man to protect Rule 5 eligible players. As the Sox have 6 very obvious candidates (Groome, Mata, Seabold, Rosario, Potts and Downs), so someone else is obviously gone within a couple weeks as well. There is no shortage of obvious candidates or DFA...
  13. If you say so. I had to Google around to see what was hot to make the damn joke work.
  14. Lin, Leyer, Godley, Triggs and Kickham were all outrighted off the 40 man roster. Godley, Triggs and Kickham have elected free agency, https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/10/red-sox-outright-5-players.html
  15. I think this is the closest thing to profanity I have ever seen from Kimmi...
  16. That doesn't really change anything. Mookie also doesn't throw sliders...
  17. Fortnite? Is this 2016? Just how behind the times is Price? If he isn't playing League of Legends, then it;s a good thing we traded him...
  18. Also worth mentioning that the Dodgers have not beaten the Rays two games in a row yet. I think the Rays have the advantage in game 6. But Walker Buehler in game 7 tips the scales in their favor....
  19. I always understood the point. But Hanley was also 31/32 when he signed and was playig a new position (which was a big factor in his injury), and not a future Hall of Famer. Mookie was worth a much bigger risk. It really came down to how big of a risk anyone waqs willing to take on him. I've always thought - and repeatedly said so - that I would risk Mookie for 12 years at age 27 than I would risk 31yo Price for 7 years. Any player can get injured, but pitchers do more frequently...
  20. HanRan is the primary argument against giving Betts a 12 year deal. Ramoirez came out of the gate looking like he was Manny Ramirez times Wade Boggs. He hit 10 HRs that first month. He had 22 RBIs. His OPS was .999. He was flat out crushing everyhting. Then he hurt his shoulder. And he went from being the New Manny Ramirez to being the New Manny Alexander overnight. If he did not hurt his shoulder, one can only wonder what might have been with Hanley...
  21. He will be on the 60 day IL all season. But there is a brief timeframe when he has to b activated and counts on the 40 man roster, takig up a space for an offseason acquisition. Normally, this has been a big deal, but since this year's team has about 15-20 players that could be DFA'd without any cause for concern, there should be no issue. In fact, it positions the Sox to make some deals for players other etams cannot protect from the Rule 5 draft, like how the Sox acquired Colten Brewer. (Hopefully any new deals work out better.)
  22. Much to my chagrin, Puello is not very likely to be on the 40 man come January...
  23. Brewer over Chatham?
  24. And by jettisoning a few arms like Miley and Masterson...
  25. Well, he took over a team with a slightly below average pitching staff that had a team ERA- of 104 in 2015 and an ERA- of 100 in 2014. "Serious pitching deficiencies" is a bit of an overstatement. Now, he did add the arms to get that number down to a much better 91 in 2016...
