    He can also throw. Apparently his overall defense behind the plate is lackluster. He is probably a future backup catcher, which is fine. One has to wonder why Philly waived him, especially with them knowing there was a good chance they would not be able to keep Realmuto...

    So are you saying Deivy Gruillon's 4 plate appearances (not 4 years, 4 plate appearances) are representative? And if this is about Duran, Fernando Tatis might not be the most appropriate comparison. Tatis had over 400 plate appearances in AA as oneof the youngest players in the league and absolutely crushed to the tune of an .869 OPS while being 5 years younger than the league average age. Duran has had about 350 PA in AA and posted a rather weak .634 OPS while being only 2 years under league average. He was still young for AA, but try not to overlook that he was completely ineffective at the plate. What do you think he would do in MLB?

    There really aren't any 2B free agents that merit a deal greter than 1-2 years anyway. Except maybe Kolten Wong, and even he is not guaranteed to get 3 years. There's a good chance the Sox punt CF. How many positions should they punt?

    Oh it was a salary dump. Span had a much lesser contract he was willing to take back. Arroyo was a bust for the Rays, playing in fewer games than even Span did before being shipped to Cleveland for a fringey A-ball payer and some bonus slot money. The only things Arroyo has going for him now is that he is still fairly young (25) and coming off a good 15 game stretch for the Red Sox. And while he is in the running for a starting 2B position by default, there is no guarantee he wins that role or is able to hold it for a full season...

    So? Span has been worth 28 fWAR for his pretty good MLB career. Arroyo has only topped 28 games in a season onetime and has been worth -0.2 fWAR. Not even close who the best player in that trade was...

    The bottom line is, it appears even the Red Sox cannot have too many players making over $20 million per season. And especially not if they have no one who makes the league minimum capable of cracking the starting lineup...

    So he will dangle Bogaerts for a trade when the non-trade options are Lindor, Story, Correa, Seager and Baez? Among other cheaper options, like Brandon Crawford, Miguel Rojas and anyone from this year's class who takes a one year contract (Grigorius? Semien?) and tries to re-enter the market when it's more favorable?

    There might be an issue trading Bogaerts. The Guardians waived Brad Hand in an attempt to get out of paying him a $1 mill buyout. It's a really safe bet they tried to trade him first and couldn't find anyone willing o take an All Star closer making $10 mill. So one has to wonder how appealing an All Star shortstop due $40 mill (or $100mill over the next 5 if he doesn't opt out) over the next two seasons might be. A bit of a shame, because the Guardians are pretty much guaranteed to try to trade Lindor this off-season, making them a perfect landing spot for Bogaerts, as they have an abundance of pitching. But if they don't think they can afford Lindor and Hand, will they want to pay Bogaerts? So what teams would want X? And might actually be spending? The Yankees? Should Bloom even think about it? The Angels, who are losing Simmons? (X for CF Brandon Marsh?) The Mets? Do they have anything worth acquiring? Really, who will be spending besides the Red Sox?
